1 Eau Claire Memorial High School Current Scholarships Updated: February 16, 2018 Yellow Highlights = New Scholarships The information listed below are the names and details of scholarships available to Eau Claire Memorial High School students. Mrs. Steig, the scholarship coordinator, posts the scholarship applications as they arrive throughout the school year. Applications and application information is in the scholarship file in Student Services and on the MHS website under Main Office and then Student Services. Many scholarships require ACT and/or SAT scores. Students are advised to take these tests beginning second semester of their junior year. Although many scholarships are based on grades and test scores, some are based on other criteria such as character, extra-curricular activities, volunteer work, and financial need. It is important to note that scholarships are not just for students with a 4.0 GPA. Tips for Winning Scholarships Do not wait until May of your senior year to start applying for scholarships. Choose references that will say good things about you and give them at least a two to three week to write a letter of recommendation for you. Brag sheets are available in Student Services. Transcripts can be requested through Parchment and are free of charge. If you need a hard copy of your transcript please see Mrs. Steig in student services. Be very neat and follow directions. When possible, always type. Follow deadlines. Applications submitted after deadlines (dates and/or times) will not be accepted. On a scholarship resume, MORE IS BETTER. Be sure to include everything you have done since ninth grade (ex. activities, work, leadership) Never pay for scholarship information. *There are various FREE searches for nation-wide scholarships. Hammett, Bellin & Oswald Law and Justice Scholarship We are excited to offer your students the Hammett, Bellin & Oswald Law & Justice Scholarship. This scholarship is for all first-year college freshman who will be attending an accredited College/University during the school year (current seniors). Details of the scholarship are below: Requirements: - Applicant must be enrolled in and plan to attend a Wisconsin college/university during the school year. - Proof of enrollment to an accredited college/university. - Have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Applicants may be asked to provide proof of eligibility. $5,000 Delores Pemma Scholarship Awarded to a Wisconsin resident seeking to enroll or currently accepted as a first-year, full-time or part-time degree-seeking student at an accredited Wisconsin technical school or college. Awardee receives a $1, scholarship disbursement per semester for a maximum of two years and a one-time $300 stipend upon the start of the 1st semester. The scholarship award, applied to tuition only, is determined by the Forest County Potawatomi Foundation Advisory Committee after in-depth review of all applications received. Semester renewal of the award is based on academic performance. To qualify for this scholarship: You must be currently enrolled in or have been accepted to (and planning to attend) a University or College in the United States and provide proof of current enrollment. 8 Army ROTC awards 2000 four-year scholarships each year to high school seniors. All eligible seniors are invited to compete. Competing for an Army ROTC scholarship/being awarded a scholarship does not obligate a student to serve in the Army. Applications are available in Student Services. Application must be initiated by January 10, 2018 and completed (all four steps) by February 28, Steve Pavich Memorial and Farm Kids for College Scholarships Seniors who are interested in pursuing an education in agriculture should apply. Applicants will automatically be eligible to win both scholarships by completing one application. Application is available in Student Services. Deadline is March 1, William and Kathryn Bergman Scholarship This scholarship is available to an entering college freshman who is a graduate of North High School (or Memorial High School) and will be awarded to a deserving, capable student enrolled full-time at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire next Fall. The student must have good academic promise and demonstrate a high level of financial need. Note: This is a major UWEC scholarship! Deadline is Friday, May 18, Ab Nicholas Scholarship This scholarship offers seniors in the boys and girls basketball programs (either a player or a manager) the opportunity for a scholarship to attend University of Wisconsin system schools. The scholarship is based on need, academic achievement, and character. 9 Seniors enrolled in a college or vocational/technical or other accredited college can apply for this scholarship. The committee would welcome motivated applicants who have a GPA between a 2.5 and 3.5 and who are interested in furthering their education. Student are to complete the application, enclose an essay, list extracurricular and community service activities, attach a letter of recommendation, and transcript. Deadline must be submitted on or before March 1, AnnMarie Foundation Scholarship The AnnMarie Foundation would like to provide one scholarship to a graduating senior from MHS. The scholarship is available to any make or female student who meets the criteria stated in this post. If more than one scholarship is awarded to MHS, the preference is that a male and female receive the award. Scholarship Amount: 2, Application available in Memorial Student Services Scholarship is to be given to a student who intends to further his/her education after graduation. The scholarship will be given in one installment after successful completion of the students first semester of the first year of full-time enrollment at his/her respective college or technical college. Volunteer efforts or community involvement Deadline to Memorial Student Services Monday, April 9 th Brighter Futures Scholarship PURPOSE The Brighter Futures Scholarship was established in The mission of the scholarship is to provide financial assistance to currently enrolled ECASD high school seniors who, at some point while enrolled in the Eau Claire Area School District, were identified as having experienced homelessness. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE Scholarship awards are for any current ECASD senior accepted into an Eau Claire County post-secondary educational program, college or course(s). Scholarships are awarded, up to $2000, based upon the financial needs of the applicant. Funding is not intended to be used for tuition balance, but more so for other services or items needed for academic success (course materials, meal plans, housing fees, living supplies, and/or other necessities for student success). CRITERIA

10 Applicants must be currently enrolled and completing (or graduated) ECASD high school programming during the school year. Applicants must be accepted as a full-time or part-time student within post-secondary programming, college or course(s) at an educational institution located in Eau Claire County. Applicants must be identified in ECASD records as having experienced homelessness. Applicants must submit a completed Scholarship Application, and supporting documents, by March 1, TIMELINE Applications are due March 1, Applicants may be asked to interview with the Scholarship Committee in March If awarded a scholarship, the applicant will be notified by April 1, Application Process SCHOLARSHIP APPLICANTS MUST PROVIDE: Completed Scholarship Application form. A verification letter from the ECASD Homeless Program Coordinator stating applicant was identified as experiencing homelessness while enrolled in the ECASD. SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS If awarded a scholarship, the applicant will be notified by April 1, If applicable, scholarship recipient must provide the name of the institution and contact information of where tuition payment is to be directed. Award amounts will be distributed after all requirements are met. Twelve lucky graduates will each receive a $ scholarship.

11 This year s recipients will be selected by a random drawing. The drawing will be conducted at the Cooperative s Annual Membership Meeting, which is scheduled for Saturday, April 7, 2018, at St. Henry s Parish Center, Eau Galle, WI. To be eligible to receive a scholarship the following conditions must be met: 1. The parents, guardians, or foster parents of the recipients must reside in the West Wisconsin Telcom service area and be a member of the Cooperative. Our home voice services exchanges include: Eau Galle (283), Downsville (664), Spring Lake (772), Elk Lake (874) and Rock Falls (875). 2. The recipients must complete the first semester of the school year with a passing grade AND commence the second semester before being eligible for payment from Cooperative. All eligible 2018 High School graduates who plan to further their education at a Technical College or University are encouraged to apply. National Scholarship Opportunity The Foundation for Rural Service (FRS) is offering a $2,000 scholarship. However, if a student from West Wisconsin Telcom service area is selected to receive one of the $2,000 scholarships, we will contribute and additional $500, bringing the total one-time scholarship award to $2,500. By applying for this national scholarship, students may also be eligible for additional scholarships - FRS Staurulakis Family Scholarships valued at $5,000 each or two Cooperative Scholarships for $1,500 each. Students who are majoring in math, science, engineering or medicine are given preference for the FRS Staurulakis Family Scholarships. 12 Cammie B. Johnson Memorial Scholarship Cammie B. Johnson Memorial Scholarship available for the Class of 2018 from the Community Foundation. Two scholarships are available to your school this year in the amount of $1,000 each, and criteria remains the same, offered to students pursuing a degree in the Medical Field, with preference for Nursing, and preference is also given to students with diabetes or experience with the disease. The updated application is in Student Services. Please read all the directions. We ask all applicants to submit a one-page essay as to why they chose the medical field and to attach a letter of recommendation. More steps to follow are listed on the application. Please be sure any interested students submit the application directly to your school office and not to the Community Foundation. Deadline to Memorial High School Student Services: Wednesday, March 14, 2018 Eau Claire Seymour Lions Club $ The Eau Claire-Seymour Lions Club is providing a scholarship to a Memorial High School student. It is the objective of the Eau Claire-Seymour Lions Club to offer a needs-based scholarship. We acknowledge that academic success is important, however, we feel that it should not be a limiting factor. Requirements: 1. Resume 2. Two Letters of recommendations 3. 13 Memorial Class of 60 Scholarship $ The Memorial High School Class of 60 Scholarship Fund has been established at the Eau Claire Community Foundation to provide financial assistance for Memorial High School students, primarily for continuing higher education, and may also be used to supplement the existing student assistance fund at Memorial High School. This Fund offers an opportunity for donors to support Memorial High School students who seek higher education and training. Academics: Share a copy of your transcript. Activities and Employment: Students may submit a resume and/or a brief description of how activities and/or employment enhanced their life and the community. One-Page Essay: Students reflect on their high school career and post-secondary plans. What goals do you have for further education? How will these goals help you reach your educational goals and contribute to society? Letter of reference recommended but not required. Students wishing to apply for scholarships should contact the Memorial High School Student Services for details and applications. The Andrew Cray Memorial Scholarship seeks to support the next generation of leaders, dreamers, and educators. We are dedicated to a bright future for LGBTQ youth and want to ensure that you have the resources necessary to live your dreams-including post-secondary life. The scholarship fund is named in honor of Andrew Clay, a Chippewa Valley native who passed away from cancer in After transitioning while attending college at Northwestern University, and while pursuing a law degree at the University of Michigan, Andrew found his calling after participating in fellowship at LGBTQ organizations in Washington D.C. 14 Don Moss $ Scholarship This scholarship was established in memory of Don Moss to support and encourage graduating seniors to pursue higher education. Don lived by the old saying Never give up! Students please read Don s special story about his life/legacy, his value of true sportsmanship and his endless determination and work ethic. (Don s story is found on the Don Moss scholarship application located in Student Services) Selection Criteria: Students must have demonstrated good sportsmanship qualities and potential in their school/community. Students have maintained good academic status with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above and participated in at least one athletic sports program. Application are available in Student Services. Deadline: Application due to Memorial High School Student Services by 3:30 p.m. Monday, March 12, Wisconsin Restaurant Association Education Foundation This foundation offers scholarships to students pursuing post-secondary education in fields related to the restaurant and hospitality industries, such as Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management, and Food Science. Many other programs are eligible so long as the student s intentions are to have a career in the restaurant and hospitality industry. 15 Emmans Memorial Scholarship: (Boy Scouts & Girl Scouts) Each year the Chippewa Valley Council awards $ scholarships to a graduating senior. The Emmans Memorial Scholarship is a one-year, non-renewable grant. Applications are available in the scholarship file in Student Services located on the front counter. Hasting Way Eau Claire, WI Eligibility: Seniors who have been members of Boys Scouts of America for at least 3 years while in grades It applies to girls who are or have been members of a Venture Crew as well. Possess a financial need More requirements are listed on the application. Deadline: Applications will only be considered if received by 5:00 p.m. on April 16, Countryside Cooperative Scholarship Countryside Cooperative is committed to the communities it serves by maintaining a skilled and educated workforce to serve its members and patrons well into the future. Countryside Cooperative is pleased to inform you that we will be offering up to twenty (20) $ scholarships to eligible High School seniors enrolled at an accredited school. Students whose parents or guardians are active members or customers of Countryside Cooperative are eligible to apply. An active member or customer is defined as having purchased a minimum of $1, worth of products and/or services in 2017 from Countryside Cooperative. The nine-panel committee consists of three board members, three-member/patrons, and three employees. Winners will be notified the week of April 9, Scholarship checks will be made payable to the college and mailed to the student s home address upon presenting proof that the student has successfully completed his or her first semester of studies and is enrolled for second semester. The Pagel Graphic Arts Scholarship Fund is open to individuals of all ages who are attending school full-time and pursuing some form of postsecondary education in the graphic communications industry. Scholarships will be awarded on academic performance, outside activities and financial need. The Pagel Graphic Arts Scholarship Fund was established in 1990 by the late Mrs. Vivian Pagel in memory of her husband, Norbert Pagel. A former Printing Industries of Wisconsin consultant, Norb spent over 40 years in service to Wisconsin graphic communications industries in various capacities. **Applications are available in Student Services. 17 Edwin C. and Lucille M. Eggen Scholarship Trust 1. One senior from Memorial High School will win a $2500 scholarship, which is renewable for up to 5 years. That makes this scholarship worth up to $12,500!!! 2. Additional 1-time scholarships are also available. 3. The selection criteria will include: Academics (you must be in top 25% of class) Character Commitment to complete a post-secondary program Financial need Extra-curricular 4. Your completed application packet must include: Cover sheet (title of scholarship and your name) Personal information page Participation page 5 essays (Essay specifics will be available March 8) Signature page Three letters of recommendation. Be sure to read the directions on the back page about your recommendations. A letter of acceptance from the post-secondary school you will attend. If you are undecided, attach letters from the schools you are considering. Unofficial transcript 5. Attach a transcript that includes first semester of your senior year and your current class rank (this can be an unofficial transcript). Incomplete applications will not be considered. 18 Ruth Girnau Scholarship The Ruth Girnau Memorial Scholarship was established in 1973 by friends and family of Ruth Girnau. The scholarship is based on financial need. It is presented annually to a graduating senior from North and a graduating senior from Memorial. Awardees will receive a $250 scholarship each semester for four years. Criteria Applicant must be a graduating senior from Memorial or North High School who has been and accepted at a postsecondary institution and has financial need. Selection will be based on: Fafsa Designation Acceptance into a post-secondary educational program Need based on other scholarship funding Recommendation from a teacher Application is in Student Services To be considered applicants must submit the following to the Student Services office: 1. A typed cover page that includes: name of the scholarship; your name, address, and phone number 2. A typed letter requesting that you be considered for the scholarship, the name of postsecondary school you plan to attend, a list of all scholarships you have received as of May 1st. 3.
