2 Mission of The Rotary Foundation Enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.

History Not-for-Profit corporation supported solely by voluntary contributions from Rotarians and friends of the Foundation who share its vision of a better world.

An endowment fund began in 1917 by Arch C. Klump - $ In 1919, the Foundation made its first grant of $500 to the International Society for Crippled Children. The organization, created by Rotarian Edgar F. Daddy Allen, later grew into the Easter Seals. In 1928, when the endowment fund had grown to more than $5,000, it was renamed The Rotary Foundation, and it became a distinct entity within Rotary International. Upon Paul Harris death in 1947, the Paul Harris Memorial Fund was created A separate endowed fund of the Foundation To date Donations to the Foundation are over $2.4 Billion.

6 Types of Funds The Annual Fund (Every Rotarian, Every Year) The primary source of funding for Foundation programs, which cover more than 160 countries and geographical areas on seven continents. All contributions to the Annual Programs Fund are spent on Rotary projects. If you give $100 per year to The Annual Fund, you automatically become a Rotary Foundation Sustaining Member. By donating $1,000 or more, you can become a Paul Harris Fellow.

7 Types of Funds (Con t) The Permanent Fund: The Rotary Foundation s Endowment Fund This fund enables individuals to combine their gifts into a significant force to address the world s greatest needs for generations to come. The initial target of US$200 million for the Permanent Fund was met in 2005, six years ahead of schedule. Unfortunately, down to $168 million. The next target is $1 billion by In a Rotary year, several million dollars from the Permanent Fund is made available to support Foundation programs.

Rotary had committed nearly US$1.2 billion to global polio eradication. For the year ended June 30, 2009, Rotary spent about $90 million toward the effort. Help Rotary raise $200 million to match $355 million in challenge grants received from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

9 Share Through SHARE, Rotary districts choose which Rotary Foundation programs they wish to support and participate in. At the end of every Rotary year, 50 percent of each district's donations to the Annual Programs Fund are credited to their District Designated Fund (DDF); the other 50 percent is credited to the World Fund. The Foundation uses the World Fund to pay for the worldwide programs available to all Rotary districts, regardless of their specific contributions. Districts use their DDF to fund the Foundation programs they participate in. Because districts share in the decision-making process about program funding with the Trustees, every Rotarian has a voice in planning for the future.

10 Share (Con t) Funding cycle The Rotary Foundation has a unique funding cycle that uses donations for programs three years after they re received. The three-year cycle gives districts time for program planning and participant selection and allows the Foundation to invest the contributions. The earnings from those investments pay for all administrative, program operations, and fund development costs. The system is called SHARE because Rotarians share their resources with fellow Rotarians around the world The Trustees share some of their decision-making responsibility with the districts Rotarians share Rotary with the world through their Foundation

12 Donor Recognition Rotary Foundation Sustaining Member - contributions of $100 or more per year to the Annual Programs Fund (APF). is automatically recognized as a Sustaining Member. Paul Harris Fellow - $1,000 cumulative gifts to the APF. WVRC Rotarians have made 505 PHF s. Paul Harris Society Member - $1,000 per year to The Rotary Foundation. (PHS Members are recognized upon submitting their PLEDGE FORM or making a lump sum annual donation to TRF in the amount of $1,000+ and will be presented with the PHS emblem, which is worn with either a Rotary pin or TRF pin.)

13 Virginia Gandy Charitable Trust A separate legal entity. Trustees are members of the WVRC. Assets of approximately $285,000. Earnings of the trust are available to make Westwood Village Rotarians, their spouses, children and grandchildren Paul Harris Fellows if the Rotarian is willing to pay for one-half of the cost of the PHF. Also allows the trust to pay annually up to one half of the amount or $500 for a Rotarian to become (and remain) a member of the Paul Harris Society.

14 Donor Recognition (con t) Benefactor - Making the Permanent Fund a beneficiary in your estate plans or by donating $1,000 or more to the fund outright. WVRC has 42 Benefactors. Bequest Society - Couples or individuals who have made commitments of $10,000 or more in their estate plans, such as in a will, living trust, or through whole or universal life insurance, can become Bequest Society members. All Bequest Society members receive recognition from the Trustees of The Rotary Foundation. Donors may elect to receive an engraved crystal recognition piece and a Bequest Society pin. Major Donor - Couples or individuals whose combined personal outright or cumulative giving has reached $10,000. All outright contributions made to the Foundation are included in this total, regardless of the gift designation. Levels One ($10,000) through Six ($1 Million or greater) Arch C. Klumph Society Donors - cumulative gifts total $250,000 or more will become members of the Arch C. Klumph Society and have their photos displayed permanently in the Arch C. Klumph Gallery at RI headquarters.
