1 Terry Sanford High School CEEB code Scholarship Newsletter March 2012-June 2012 March Fort Bragg Area Officers Spouses Club Scholarship Deadline 3/15 The Fort Bragg Area Officers Spouses Club (FBAOSC) will award scholarships to children of active duty or active duty reserve service members (Sponsor), or the child of a retired or deceased military officer or enlisted service member whose last duty station was Fort Bragg. Applications are available from Mrs. Theel in the Counseling Center. CCC NCAEOP Scholarship Deadline 3/16 Each year through hard work and dedication the members of the Cumberland County Chapter Association of Education Office Professionals offer college scholarships. In the last five years the CCNAEOP has paid a total of $17,800. This year we will be offering up to $7,000 through 6 different opportunities. They are as follows: o 1 st place EOP Child s Scholarship for $2,000 o 2 nd place EOP Child s Scholarship for $1,500 o 3r d place EOP Child s Scholarship for $1,000 o 1 st place EOP Scholarship for $1,000 o 2 nd place EOP Scholarship for $1,000 o Only CCS Employee s Child - $500 Applications are available from Mrs. Theel in Counseling Center.

2 USPAACC Scholarships Deadline 3/16 To be considered eligible for the USPAACC Scholarships you must: 1) Be at least 16 years of age at the time of application 2) For the Bruce Lee Scholarship you may come from any Ethnic background. However, for the rest of the scholarships you must be of Asian Descent. 3) A citizen or permanent resident of the United States 4) Beginning full-time study at an accredited post-secondary educational institution in the United States in Fall Applications can be found by going to: Junior League Scholarships Deadline 3/30 The Junior League of Fayetteville has established a scholarship program to support the volunteer and leadership potential of area youth. The League offers three scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each available to female high school students demonstrating outstanding volunteer performance in Cumberland County. Eligible students must participate in volunteer work above and beyond that which may be required for school. Applications are available from Mrs. Theel in Counseling Center. Cumberland Community Foundation Scholarships Deadlines 3/30 In 2011, Cumberland Community Foundation (CCF) awarded over $165,000 in college scholarships to students from Southeastern North Carolina. CCF administers over 40 scholarship funds. They are as follows: o Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity The George L. Butler Memorial Scholarship* Student must be African American male with community involvement and financial need. o C.G. Avent, Jr. and Amelia P. Avent Memorial Scholarship Student must have activities and volunteer/work experience, financial need, and plan to attend FSU or Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte. o Beth Bryan Creative Arts Fund Scholarship* Student must have artistic achievements and endeavor to pursue the creative arts. o Rev. Henry Hudson Bobbitt Scholarship Student must be an active member of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church. o Anthony G. Chavonne Scholarship Student must be a child or grandchild of an employee at The Fayetteville Observer and have a minimum 2.5 weighted GPA. o Booker T. And Juanita E. Coley Scholarship Student must have character, leadership, etc., a minimum B GPA, & demonstrated financial need and plan to attend Fayetteville State University. Elementary education majors and students from E.E. Smith will be given priority. o William W. Crowell Scholarship Student s parent must be employed in construction/engineering field. Student must be involved in volunteer/work experience, etc. 2

3 o Ella Smith Downing Charitable Scholarship Student must have financial need and plan to attend Methodist University, Duke University or UNC Chapel Hill o Fayetteville Firefighters Scholarship for Dependent Children Student must be dependent child of active uniform Fayetteville, NC firefighter and must demonstrate financial need. o J. McNatt Gillis Memorial Scholarship-Cumberland County Farm Bureau Federation, Inc. Student must be child or grandchild of current member of the Cumb. Co. Farm Bureau with unweighted 2.5 GPA and plan to major in Agriculture. NC State or NC A&T will get priority. o Dorothy Gilmore FCCYC and Monroe Evans Scholarship Student must have 3.8 GPA, rank in top 5% of class, and min SAT (CR/M). Must also demonstrate academic potential, leadership, & community service. o Charles Calvert Holt Scholarship* TERRY SANFORD STUDENTS ONLY. Must plan to attend ECU or any other UNC School and demonstrate financial need. o FCHRC/Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship* Student must have 2.5 or better GPA. Based on need, academics, leadership, essay, and references. o Dr. Lee Maria Kleiss Incoming Freshman Honorarium* Must be Cumberland County student planning to attend FSU as a chemistry major. o Dr. Edward B. Martin Scholarship* TERRY SANFORD STUDENTS ONLY. Must plan to attend NC State University, have a minimum 3.2 unweighted GPA and letter in a Varsity sport at least two years. o Brenda C. McFadyen Scholarship Minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need. Priority given to a single parent-child. o Gurney and Olive McLaughlin Scholarship Must be child of active duty military, retired military, or killed in action military. o Anne Barnes Sternlicht Scholarship Student must have 3.0 minimum GPA, financial need, and plan to attend Methodist University. o Walter Lee Jack Tucker Scholarship Must be child of uniformed Fayetteville Fire Dept member. o Gordon M. Williams Memorial Scholarship Cumberland County Farm Bureau Federation, Inc. Student must be child or grandchild of current member of the Cumb. Co. Farm Bureau with unweighted 2.5 GPA and plan to major in Agriculture. NC State or NC A&T will get priority. Applications are available at: * denotes special application needed April Marc North Carolina Bar Association Scholarship Program Deadline 4/2 The North Carolina Bar Association is continuing its program of awarding scholarships to children of North Carolina law enforcement officers killed or permanently disabled in the line of duty. During the school year, eight students were awarded funds from $250-$4,000. Applications available at: 3

4 Cumberland County Association of Principals and Assistant Principals Scholarship Deadline 4/5 The Cumberland County Association of Principals and Assistant Principals (CCAPAP) is proud to present scholarships to qualifying Cumberland County Schools (CCS) high school seniors to help them defray the cost of higher education. Each year the association holds a fundraiser to accumulate funds so that we may offer as many scholarships as possible. In order to be considered for this scholarship students must: o Be a CCS high school senior o Maintain a minimum weighted 2.5 GPA o Complete the essay portion of the scholarship as directed o Include an official transcript with the application o Include a current report card with the application o Complete the Scholarship Application o Turn the completed packet in by the scholarship deadline to the specified location Application available from Mrs. Theel in the Counseling Center. Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association NC Chapter Scholarship Program Deadline 4/9 The Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) is now accepting applications for scholarships. Last year the North Carolina Chapter of AFCEA awarded scholarships totaling $30,000 to 12 local students. Applications available at: or from Mrs. Theel in the Counseling Center. NC Society of Accountants Scholarship Deadline 4/15 The NC Society of Accountants Scholarship Foundation is a non-profit organization established in 1970 to provide scholarships for deserving students who indicate a desire to enter the profession of Accounting. The Scholarship awards for school year will be $ each. Applications available from Mrs. Theel in the Counseling Center Student-View Scholarship Program Deadline 4/22 The 2012 Student-View Scholarship Program is offering $10,000 worth of scholarships to high school seniors who plan to attend a four-year college, community/junior college or career school. The program includes: o One $4,000 scholarship 4

5 o Two $1,000 scholarships o Eight $500 scholarships Simply log on to to complete a minute application survey about colleges in your area. SECU People Helping People Scholarship Deadline 4/23 SECU Foundation and State Employees Credit Union members are committed to the Credit Union philosophy of people helping people. Since 2004, the People Helping People Scholarship Program has provided over $29 million in educational funding. Each traditional public high school in North Carolina will receive one (1) scholarship valued at $10,000 $1,250 per semester) to attend one of the 16 constituent campuses of the UNC System. Seniors with a minimum 2.5 GPA may be considered for this scholarship. The TSHS scholarship committee will convene to choose a winner from the applicants. If interested in this scholarship, please turn in the following items to Mrs. Theel in the Counseling Center. o a resume (or request for letter of recommendation form) that outlines community involvement AND o a 1-2 page essay about why you feel you embody the ideal of people helping people May-June Lt. Col. Romeo & Josephine Bass Ferretti Scholarship Deadline 6/30 This scholarship is made possible by a bequest from the estate of Lt. Col. Romeo and Josephine Bass Ferretti and was established for minor dependents of active duty or retired Air Force, Air Force Reserve or Air National Guard enlisted airmen. It is for students pursuing an undergraduate degree in the area of science, technology, engineering or math (STEM). The scholarship will be awarded to a student who has graduated from high school in 2012 and who is entering their first year at an accredited institution of higher learning. Scholarships will be awarded for the school year in the amount of $2,500. Recipients will be selected by committee based upon high academic achievement, good character and financial need.
