This Scholarship is intended to assist Sunday School members who have a desire to attend accredited institutions of higher learning (colleges, universities, etc.). HOW MUCH IS IT WORTH? Each scholarship is from $ to $1, (depending upon available funds). HOW ARE FUNDS RAISED? The National Sunday School Association (NSSA) of the P.C.A.F. recommends five (5) cents, per Sunday, per student, regardless of age. If each student at every school give five (5) cents (or more) every Sunday, those monies will help support the program. Special donations are acceptable. WHO MAY APPLY? These scholarships are open to high school students, advancing to higher education, who are members in good standing of any of the churches affiliated with the P.C.A.F. Association, Inc., and are active participants in the National Sunday School Association (NSSA). Each applicant must have a recommendation letter from his/her pastor, and one from the school you attended. In the event there are more qualified applicants than there are scholarship funds available, scholarship(s) will be awarded with the additional consideration of financial need. Effective August 2001, all recipients must skip one (1) year before applying for a second scholarship, no exceptions. HOW TO APPLY? An application may be secured from the Council or local Superintendent. Complete the application, and request your school counselor to furnish all information relative to your academic profile; including an official sealed and signed transcript, and include this information with your application packet before mailing it in. WHEN WILL THE SCHOLARSHIP BE AWARDED? The scholarship selection process takes place at the PCAF Nat l. Convention of each year. The deadline for all application to be in is July 15 of each year. The name(s) of the approved applicants are announced during the NSSA session at the Annual P.C.A.F. National Convention. After the approved applicant is notified, they will be required to have the Registrar, Dean, or some other official of the College or University send verification to the NSSA Asst. Secretary that the student is currently enrolled and attending school. Upon receipt of said verification, the scholarship(s) will be awarded. See page one. Before mailing in your completed NSSA Scholarship Application, make sure that each of the following is enclosed. NSSA Scholarship Application 2 letters of Recommendation (1 ea. from Pastor and School Official) Copy of Standardized SAT, PSAT, ACT Test Scores (if applicable). Official Transcripts, in sealed envelope (Unofficial if hand writing is on transcripts, except for Official signatures) Cover Letter (1 page - Why you qualify for a NSSA Scholarship) Essay (Why you want to attend college your goals, expectations, etc.) If applicable: Send copies of Certificates, Awards, Membership Cards, Letters Confirming services, etc. High School Activities (i.e., Club or School Office, Honor Society Membership, etc.) Completed copy of this NSSA Scholarship Inventory sheet Community involvement (School activities that directly benefit community or church) 4

5 WORKSHEET EVALUATION CRITERIA GRADE POINT AVERAGE A Minimum Grade point Average of 3.0 is required. ACADEMIC QUALITY Standardized SAT, PSAT, ACT Test Scores equivalent to SAT Scores below receive the following points: Points Points Points Below Point Points Initiative and performance in course work shall be recognized as follows: 5 Points - Excellent performance in heavy course load of Math /Science or an extensive foreign language background 3 Points - Solid performance in standard college prep course load with emphasis on grades in Math/ Science area. 2 Points - Good performance overall in standard college prep course load with emphasis on grades in variety of subject areas. 1 Point - College prep course loads with light Math/Science or other categories of course load not usually associated with college prep. HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES Applicant may earn 1 point for each area of high school activities he/she may have engaged in for a maximum of 5 points. Such activities must have been extra-curricular (i.e., club or school offices, honor society membership, etc.) COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT Applicant s involvement in school activities that directly benefit the community or church earn - 20 points. BRIEF EXPLANATION OF INDIVIDUAL GOALS 15 points (Maximum) will be given to applicants as a result of well written explanation, which supports the applicant s reasoning as to why he/she wants to attend college and his/her future goals in life. COVER LETTER (1 PAGE) 5 Points will be given each applicant for stating why he/she feels he/she qualifies for a NSSA Scholarship 5

6 EVALUATION SHEET The following categories of evaluation shall determine scholarship recipients: Additionally, a point system shall be established for each category with spread among categories large enough to determine the relative importance of each category with respect to each other.
