This forum is for leaders from across the health system to explore the latest developments in healthcare IT namely, how digital strategy and real-word implementation is meeting challenges across the NHS. Our delegates are CIOs and CCIOs in the NHS and leaders from NHS England and NHS Digital. Together, they will navigate a packed agenda designed to maximise learning opportunities and ignite debate around the most important issues facing healthcare IT. This kind of face-to-face engagement is powerful and can galvanize significant improvements within organisations. Professor Tony Young, surgeon and National Clinical Director for Medical Innovation at NHS England, will open the day with his challenge that the NHS should become the Silicon Valley for health. In addition, CIO of Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust, Joanna Smith will lead a discussion on the role of CIOs in health, drawing on her experience from both sides of the NHS fence. The day will end with a timely update on the NHS Digital Academy from Dr Harpreet Sood, Associate CCIO at NHS England. Today s Executive Leadership Summit is designed to give you inspiration about the possibilities of e-health to transform care and the start of a plan for how you can use your personal impact to make that happen. We are now at the halfway point of the NHS Five Year Forward View. This roadmap identifies three gaps in England s health system - health and wellbeing, care and quality and, funding and efficiency - and sets out to close them by redesigning the way services are planned, paid for and delivered. It is in the care and quality gap that the potential of technology to improve care is explored with a sharp focus on using informatics to eradicate variation across the country. Measurement, comparison and analysis of collected data are the starting points for so much improvement. Today s summit mixes topical issues such as cyber security and innovation with national digital agenda updates with stories and examples from frontline IT leaders. We are grateful to one emerging leader, Ish Ahmed, a surgical registrar from Northumberland, who will share his frustration of trying to incorporate clinical informatics into his medical training. I m keen to see what advice and guidance delegates can offer him and how this process will increase understanding of the challenges ahead. She was named CIO of Sutter Health Valley Area in August Prior to that, she was CIO for Sutter Health s East Bay Region. Before joining Sutter Health in 2012, she spent four years as system vice president and CIO at St. Luke s Health System in Boise, Idaho. She has also served in leadership positions at Kaiser Permanente and Dignity Health. Adrienne has helped to raise the visibility of CIOs across the industry in North America. An active CHIME member, one of her primary areas of focus has been education and professional development. Professor Tony Young Director of Medical Innovation, NHS England Tony is a practicing frontline NHS surgeon, Director of Medical Innovation at Anglia Ruskin University, and has founded 4 Med-Tech start-ups. He has also cofounded the 500m Anglia Ruskin MedTech Campus which is set to become one of the world s largest health innovation spaces. In 2014 he was appointed as National Clinical Director for Innovation at NHS England and in February 2016 became the first National Clinical Lead for Innovation. In this role he provides clinical leadership and support in delivering improved health outcomes in England and drives the uptake of proven innovations across the NHS, promotes economic growth through innovation and helps make the NHS the go place on the planet for medical innovation. In 2015 he founded the NHS Clinical Entrepreneur programme. This has become the world s largest entrepreneurial workforce development programme for clinicians.
