3 Objective Job oriented education for girl children: Focus on nursing 1. Scholarships for deserving school children 2. Job oriented professional education in paramedical area 3. Sponsoring economically handicapped students for higher studies. 4. Competency developing classes for the girl children Why nursing? 1. High demand for trained nurses in hospitals 2. Home nursing gaining importance 3. Existing shortage of qualified nurses 4. Well paying jobs

4 Project details One year certification and two year diploma One year Certificate Course in Nurse Aide Two year Diploma in Nursing Assistant course, with the help of Institute I of Paramedical Sciences, recognized by Bharath Sevak Samaj. Majority are from distant villages, as part of an effort in conducting an Awareness program about job opportunities in paramedical profession The students are financially supported for their studies Competency development classes Significance of the course: This course is mainly for students Who cannot afford college education Who score in between 50 to 60% Who want satisfying jobs with good remuneration, soon after their r education Who want to serve their family and the society

5 How do students apply: Project implementation Mrs. Thenmozhi goes on village visits to talk about the nursing profession and pick 12 th pass students Some students are from Chennai Students enroll in different courses based on merit Course plan First three/six months theory classes are held After theory classes, the students get practical training during which they are given a stipend. Local hospitals encourage fresh nurse aides because they t can be hired for a lower wage Girls get accommodation and food sometimes sponsored by hospitals. s. During practical training the students continue theory lessons once o a week Once the one year or two year course work is completed the students appear for the exams and get their degree recognized by Bharath Sevak Samaj Sarva Vidya Trust finds employment for these students through their network

6 Where do the students stay? More project details While doing theory lessons Sarva Vidya Trust takes care of accommodation by renting a house and letting the girls stay and cook While doing practical training the hospitals pay stipend and/or provide accommodation What do the teachers do once theory lessons are complete: They teach once a week for the three batches They visit hospitals and monitor students progress They guide the students in training Comments about Red Cross certification Till last year the one year certification was done through RedCross. RedCross charges 8000Rs-10000Rs for the certification apart from other expenses. SVT has taken over this and is conducting one year certification also in premises Sources of funding Asha for Education is the only main source Individual donations Ramakrishna Mutt giving 7500Rs per month that currently covers some s staff salary

14 Challenges faced FCRA status The trust doesn t t have FCRA clearance They applied for one time funding permit with Asha Dallas s sanction letter for $5000 Asha Stanford s s approval came later Now they need to apply for another sanction letter to get funding for the entire year Their request: can we send a modified letter to approve support for 2 academic years based on conditions. This will save a lot of money, time and energy from both sides
