Pathology and Radiology requests coming to ICE The Trust has plans in place to introduce Pathology and Radiology requesting through the ICE System to Outpatient areas. Many areas are still using paper requests which can go missing. These are often incomplete, leading to delays in booking investigations. By the end of March, we hope to have the electronic requests through ICE up and running for more accurate and complete request information, increased patient safety and a faster process. The project team are liaising with departments to nominate super users/champions. Relevant areas have been asked to complete and return a proforma for staff to be set up. If you re contacted by the ICE team, please respond to their requests so they can understand the full training, equipment and mapping requirements. Please contact Jo Hutchinson for more information on j.hutchinson1@nhs.net. How will this affect me? If you currently do not use ICE, you will have an account set up and be offered training. Each area will be given information about their change over date and when they will start to use ICE If you already use ICE some processes may be different throughout areas of the Trust. Please ensure you are aware of the current processes for the area you are working in at that time. Staff Brief dates 2018 The Staff Brief dates for 2018 are as follows. Anyone is welcome to attend and every department is encouraged to have a member come along and take the briefing back to your own team meetings. Dates and times for the Lecture Theatre, DRI and the Boardrooms at Montagu and Bassetlaw 1 February 8.30am 1 March 8.30am 29 March 8.30am 3 May 8.30am 24 May 8.30am 28 June 8.30am 2 August 8.30am 23 August 8.30am 27 September 8.30am 25 October 8.30am 29 November 8.30am 20 December 8.30am Farewell, Dave! Dave Davies, one of our much loved volunteers, did his last shift with us on 22 December. Dave has volunteered for the Trust for 14 years. We will miss him greatly but wish him well in his new adventures. Thanks for everything, Dave! 2
We're changing patient wristbands! Starting from 8 January, IT will be updating all of the Trust s wristband printers to improve clinical governance. Patient wristbands will no longer show their full address, but an abbreviation of the first line. Before the new template is available in CaMIS, IT need to update the printers themselves. This can be done remotely but the printers need to be switched on. Please make sure the wristband printer in your area is plugged in and switched on. Having trouble with your printer? If your wristband printer is flashing orange it s not broken, it just needs refilling with wristbands. Please do not turn the printer off. Replace the cartridge with the stock available in your area. Sheffield Hallam Link Lecturer survey Sheffield Hallam University are inviting all Mentors, Educators & Learning Environment Managers to take part in the review of the link lecturer role with Sheffield Hallam University, by completing a short online survey. The review is to explore the evidence base regarding the role of the link lecturer and lead link lecturer, to ensure the department's model of linking is fit for future practice. The information you give will be really helpful in improving future roles of this kind. Nobody other than the team conducting the review will be able to access your answers. The survey should take just 10 minutes to complete and closes 26 January Click here to take the survey Congrats Richard and Emily Congratulations to Richard Fenton and Emily Sainthouse for passing the Clinical Coding Examination which they sat in September this year. The examination consists of a three hour practical paper with a minimum pass mark of 90% and a three hour theory paper which includes the background and national standards of clinical coding, anatomy and physiology and medical terminology. They have both worked so hard this year and thoroughly deserved to pass. Best wishes from all of your colleagues in Clinical Coding and the rest of the Trust! 3

You can access the procedures manual here. This guidance provides information for practitioners on how to respond to children and young people who may have been sexually abused. This procedure has been developed by DSCB, for use by all partner agencies. It provides information about sexual abuse that may take place within a family. Child sexual abuse within a family is a child protection issue, as it is when the abuser is external to the family, and it needs an immediate response. The guidance also provides information about what action professionals who suspect such a situation should take, and what evidence can be collected. This includes the role of specialist professionals who can offer support to the child or young person, other family members, and involved professionals. 5 ATM in Gate 4 To make way for the refurbishment of the new catering areas in Gate 4, the cash machine there is being removed on 4 January. The works are expected to finish at the end of April. There is a cash machine available in Women s and Children s foyer in the meantime as an alternative. Datix training There are places available on the following Datix training dates: Tuesday 16 January, to 11.30am, Learning Room 2, DRI Thursday 22 February, 11.00am to 12.00noon, Learning Room 2, DRI Thursday 22 March, 1.30 to 2.30pm, Learning Room 3, DRI To book a place, please contact the Education Department on For manager Datix training, please contact Tracy Evans-Phillips via . #ThankYou Louise Louise Cummings, paediatric Speech & Language Therapist, has received some glowing feedback from a patient's family: "I would just like to share how we feel about the service provided by Louise. She was the first person we met that actually understood the challenges faced by Jack, but was able to offer hope, understanding, strategies to support and give us a light at the end of the tunnel. She is a great asset to the team! She was the first person to see and deal with us and not just see the issue/illness." Patient Experience Day The Trust is holding a Patient Experience Day in the Education Centre at DRI on Friday 19 January, 9.00am to 4.30pm. The day will feature a special visit from the Pensionaires, personal stories, and talks on End of Life Care and person centred care. There's also a star appearence from Bella the PAT dog (the most well behaved lab we've ever met). To book a place please amyfarrington@nhs.net or call Know someone who goes the extra mile? Nominate them for a Star Award here. 5
Occupational Therapy Week Occupational Therapy Week ran from the 6-12 November. Occupational Therapy staff across all three sites took the opportunity to promote ways the profession improves the lives of patients and their carers and how it helps to make the health and care system more efficient. At DRI the staff had a stand throughout the week showcasing Occupational Therapists across the Trust and our role in patient care. They also held a bake sale with all proceeds going to St John s Hospice. This was a success with total reaching This money will go towards helping patients and their families who use the Hospice. Montagu staff created a display highlighting Occupational Therapy and were available each morning in the Retreat to answer questions. They also did a baking group and falls group including patients in the events. They received good feedback. The OT team at Bassetlaw had a stand in main reception and were able to speak with hospital staff and members of the public. They found many people had received input from Occupational Therapy themselves or had relatives that had, all of which were positive experiences! Dry January - Let's go! We hope you've all had a great New Year and we dare say many of you welcomed in 2018 with your favourite tipple - but now we're hoping you'll join us in quitting the booze for January! We've all felt like we've over indulged by the time January comes around and we dare say that some of us spent New Year's Day with a fuzzy head. So what better time to sign up to Dry January? Every year, Alcohol Concern runs the event to highlight the health benefits of cutting down on alcohol, the money you can save, and of course the weight you could lose if that's one of your resolutions this year. If you're taking part, us on dbth.buzz@nhs.net we'd love to hear how you're getting on! Visit the website to sign up! 6
Risky Business The latest edition of Risky Business, your two page newletter for all things Risk Management, is available to read now. Click the link below to access the latest edition. This time we're talking communication, learning from deaths and further learning. Risky Business - Issue 3. Your Sheffield Hallam Link Lecturers We're running a new Sheffield Hallam University / DBTH Link Lecturer pilot up until the end of March. Your Link Lecturers during this time are Dawn Reasbeck, Michaela Brown and Pamela Holland. They will be available to support practice learning and any related queries or issues. They will usually be available Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. You can contact them on: DBTHLinkteam@shu.ac.uk New Sepsis pathway Sepsis is a common and very serious condition associated with high mortality rates. Early intervention has been proven to significantly reduce mortality. Further evidence demonstrates that if a standardised approach is adopted by all staff - including goals and timescales for action - the early interventions are delivered more reliably. A new Sepsis care pathway was launched in 2017 to help staff reliably deliver prompt care. However, some staff are uncertain about who should write on the document and when. We have included a brief summary of the who', why' and when of using the Sepsis pathway document. Any further questions can be directed to Lee.Cutler@nhs.net The next Friday Lunchtime Lecture will be on 12 January Keep an eye out for the details! 7
Fraud Awareness training There are places available on the Fraud Awareness course. The course covers all the fraud training requirements needed to be compliant with SET, but it's also a great way to go and pick up a few tips to avoid getting scammed when you're out of work as well! Click here to see the dates and book your place. The CQC are looking to hear about your experience of working at DBTH including any particular areas of concern as well as what is working well. They will be hosting Focus Groups for various staff at both Bassetlaw Hospital and Doncaster Royal Infirmary. If you'd like to get involved, please see dates and times for each site below. 10 ZERO tolerance to Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust All patients with a positive MRSA screen to be promptly isolated and started on decolonisation as per Trust policy. Any History of MRSA, consult relevant policy or consider discussion with Microbiologist for treatment of infections so antibiotics will cover MRSA. Poor compliance with decolonisation and the presence of devices increases the risks of BACTERAEMIA. All devices should be managed in line with Policy. VIP scores: Documentation for peripheral venous cannula (PVC) as well as other tunnelled lines (e.g. PICC/ CVC) is vital to monitor any signs of infection. Daily review any invasive device to consider removal. It is the responsibility of all staff to check MRSA status of patients (previous admissions and present). All wards to target 97% hand hygiene compliance 10
