For instance, we should educate employees on healthcare reform through multiple communication channels. I believe employees get little relief from the topic of healthcare because of its prominence outside the hospital in the media and even among friends and family. Therefore, the hospital should start discussing healthcare reform with their employees to provide them with tools to use when faced with the topic outside of the workplace. At this time there are many changes and additions at Lynn County Hospital District. Therefore, I think it is very important for you to know the vision, mission and tasks that LCHD is striving for. I feel it is the responsibility of Administration to share the future with you and to give you talking points in order for you to know the answer to public questions or comments. This is the reason we have an open door policy and I am having the State of the District meetings. So far the meetings have been going well. There are some times that are attended better than other times. This tells me that some of the times I schedule are not convenient with your schedule. Please don t get upset or frustrated I will continue to change the meeting times until they work with everyone and every shift. If you didn t get to attend the State of the District this time, please try to make one the meetings next time they are scheduled. I will try to have these meetings every six months. 2 Page 2 STAT Jennifer Wilhite, Specialty Clinic Coordinator Dr. Grant opened his practice on Aug. 19th. We had the Open house on Sept. 12, which was a success. Thank you to everyone who came out to support him and meet his family. His family thought everyone was very nice!. Dr. Grant is getting settled into West Texas Life and we are seeing more and more patients weekly. We welcome all walk-ins especially on Friday afternoons. Sign up in Julia s office or register online at They are in critical need of blood so please try and sign up. Remember to eat a good breakfast that day and also to bring a picture ID with you. The Hospital s goal is 15 units! DID YOU KNOW: UBS has a donor rewards program? If you sign up online for your donation you get 100 extra points above the points you receive for your donation. Also you receive more points each time you donate. These points can be redeemed for all kinds of good things; like ice cream, movie tickets and CD s. Vera Reno, RN The Assessors: We Have You Covered From Head To Toe. The nursing department is getting ready for another huge advancement into modern nursing. Lisha is working long hard hours with a consultant from Omnicell for the entire month of September and into October stocking and testing our new dispensing cabinet. If you have been back around the nurses station you will have seen a large cabinet that will house our meds. The nurses will access the cabinet with fingerprint identification. When an order is placed it goes across to the dispensing cabinet and when the nurse try s to access the medication only the drawer housing the specific medicine will open. There is also a glass door going up in front of the cabinet hallway which will have a keypad lock. All of these measures are to increase patient safety in regards to medication administration. The glassed hallway will also be considered a quiet zone, so nurses aren't distracted while preparing meds.

Zumba is always accepting new members. CrosSculpt Thursday 6:30 PM CrosSculpt combines the fat burning of tabata style rounds, with the toning and strengthening of Sustained/controlled exercises all mixed together with CONSTANT core training. We do have Insanity and P90X DVDs available to anyone who would like to use them. Please remember that these ladies commit to be here and would love to have your commitment in return. If anyone is interested in instructing a fitness class or other health oriented class they can come talk to Jann or myself. Administrative Intern update: Colton Holland To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe. -Anatole France When I read this passage it reminded me that we are all here to serve a purpose. Our purpose at LCHD is to help the hurting recover with the lease amount of pain and suffering as well as protect and comfort the families. In order to fully accomplish our purpose effectively we must all be on the same page and work towards the same goals. This is why it is very important to have a statement (mission) that guides our actions for the best on behalf of the hospital. However, action is not enough, belief in the statement is equally important. The creation and drafting of each departments mission statements was a success. There were a lot of people who got involved and expressed their ideas to create the best statement and appearance for the entire hospital and all the employees within. We do an excellent job here at LCHD, and that should be express through a mission statement to everyone in the community. You answered and We re Listening!!! A BIG applause to all that participated in the Employee Satisfaction survey!! 86% of you filled it out either online or on paper. Look for improvements/changes from your suggestions in the near future.

Malena Vitolas, RT (ARRT) October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. About 1 in 8 women born today in the United States will get breast cancer at some point during her life. After skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common kind of cancer in women. The good news is that many women can survive breast cancer if it s found and treated early. If you are age 40 to 49, talk with your doctor about when to start getting mammograms and how often to get them. Women ages 50 to 74 need mammograms every 2 years. You may choose to start getting mammograms earlier or to get them more often. Talk to a doctor about your risk for breast cancer, especially if a close family member has had breast or ovarian cancer. Your doctor can help you decide when and how often to get mammograms. The Covenant mobile mammography bus will be coming Tuesday October 8, 2013, and will be providing mammography screenings. Walk-ins are welcome. MRI mobile update: Working with MRI mobile company, Diagnostic Management Group, to start coming to LCHD in October!!

They were very surprised. Arthur shows off his $25 cash he won from Tahoka Rotary by donating peanut butter for the Pack the Backpack Campaign. The program sends food home on the weekends for needy children. Upcoming Dates to Remember Oct. 4 th ~ Homecoming Parade float ~ The theme this year is Crushing the Tigers All are welcome to help build and ride. Check with Colton if you want to help. Oct 5 th ~ LCHD Booth at Harvest Festival ~ We will be selling cotton candy again with the funds raised going towards Juvenile Diabetes and Christmas for Kids. There will be a sign-up sheet in Julia s office if you wish to help. Oct. 24th ~ Friend to Friend Event 6 pm-9 pm. Breast Cancer and Cervical Cancer Awareness Party Oct. 23rd-31st~ Pumpkin Decorating Contest : Prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd & Most Creative Oct. 31st~ Halloween Pot Luck Luncheon Also Dress up Day Felix makes a donation of $1900 to the Lynn County Summer Camp. The funds were raised at the 1st Annual Softball Tournament held Sept Thank you to all that participated and helped. The money will be put to great use next summer. Nov. 16th ~Operation Claus Motorcycle run and toy donation for the Lynn County Christmas for Kids program. Talk with your Commitment to Care Dept. Rep. if you would like to get more involved. Dec. 6th ~ Hospital Christmas Party~ Cotton Creek, New Home more details to come. The Commitment to Care Committee s next meeting is Oct. 8th, 8:30 AM in the hospital meeting room.
