Patients who are bleeding with high risk for DIC Patients with Guillain Barre at the acute phase which put them at high risk for advance respiratory support Necrotizing Fascitis patients Patiemts with multiple organ failure that can still be managed in the ICU ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Admits patients from the ward, operating room or from another hospital requiring invasive ventilation and close monitoring. Responsible for the total care of the patient which includes administration of medicines, carrying out doctor s orders promptly and effectively, assisting doctors in procedures and treatments. Assess, plans, implements, evaluates the goals of care and documents all the care rendered. Reports to the ICU Registrar for any significant changes in the health status of the patient. Liaise with the other team members in planning the care of the day. Able to perform basic cardio-pulmonary resuscitation Uses the material resources to meet the patient s needs. Assists the family and carers to understand the health condition of the patient, the care and treatments given to the patient and encourage the family to participate in the plan of care. Prioritises the needs, problems, and intervenes accordingly Promotes comfort, maintains patient s privacy and dignity at all times Ensures pressure areas are protected by regularly turning patients to their sides accordingly Maintains safe patient transfer to the High Dependency Unit, to the ward or to another hospital which includes but not limited to the physiological effects of transfer Safeguarding the rights of the patients at their most vulnerable time Being professional in dealing with irate patients and families Keeping oneself updated with new policies and guidelines of the unit and of the institution Communicates in a clear and concise manner taking into consideration the level of understanding and cultural background of the patients and their family Reports promptly any safety issues and suggest how this can be addressed Documents accurately and legibly Obtains patient s consent prior to rendering any interventions whenever possible Supports colleagues specially newly qualified staff and students Adapts to new protocols and be pro-active
