1 Name Date Institution Room Examination Final Competency Directions: Indicate the student's competency by placing a check mark ( ) in the appropriate column which is indicative of the student's performance. A student must receive an acceptable evaluation on all tasks in order to receive a successful evaluation. The observer may use his own judgment for determining a reasonable time limit. Explanation of rating scale is as follows: 0 = unacceptable 1 = acceptable If any radiograph is repeated the competency is unacceptable. Main Objective: In an energized radiographic room, the student will perform positioning skills as stated by department procedures for any given radiographic position. A. Patient-Technologist Relationship Correlate patient identification with requisition. 2. Communicate at all times in a courteous manner with patients. 3. Provide indiscriminate attention to patient. 4. Assist patient into radiographic room. 5. Assist patient onto radiographic table. 6. Explain exam clearly to patient. 7. Recognize patient's anxieties and provide reassurance. 8. Insure patient's privacy/modesty. 9. Assist patient from radiographic facility. B. Image Receptor Selection 1. Selects correct IR size. 2. Selects correct number of IRs required. 3. Orients IR with part of interest.

2 Page 2 C. Equipment Manipulation Manipulates table to correct position. 2. Utilizes tube head locks. 3. Correctly handles IR from Bucky tray or table. D. Positioning Skills 1. Position patient correctly on table. 2. Center part to center of IR. 3. Central ray aligned to center of IR. 4. Central ray angulated correctly. 5. All position planes angled correctly. 6. Remove extraneous items from area being examined. 7. Overall efficiency. 8. Identifies image with appropriate markers.(no electronic) 9. Select correct technique based on patient part measurement. E. Radiation Protection 1. Collimate beam to SIZE of PART. 2. Use appropriate shielding. 3. Discern pregnancy when appropriate. 4. Close door to radiographic room prior to exposure.
