2 INTRODUCTION OF NEW CURRICULUM PROGRAM SPECIALIST AND REDUCTION IN PROGRAM HOURS FOR RADT Agenda Topics 2 HOURS HOLLY FREE/JAN MARTIN Holly Free introduced herself as the Curriculum Program Specialists for Health Technologies with TCSG. She stated that the hours WILL eventually change for all programs and the she along with the TCSG are here to help. Currently the RADT Program requires 93 Credit hours and our goal is 72 Credit hours. Holly provided business cards for everyone. CONCLUSIONS We will discuss this topic after revisions of RADT 1070 and RADT 1160 have been completed today. Discussion Tabled until after this primary goal has been met. RADT 1070/RADT 1160 STANDARD REVISION 1.5 HOURS DEBBIE DAWSON/JAN MARTIN Revision for RADT 1070 and RADT 1160 had previously been discussed in an IFCC telephone conference on April 17th, The committee appointed during this telephone conference sent out 3 proposals on revision of these two courses via several days prior to meeting. Every member present agreed that the revisions were necessary. The three proposals were discussed openly and the members decided to remove unnecessary curriculum from the course. Debbie Dawson presented the explanation for the revision stating that there was entirely too much information in each course making it difficult to teach. The changes made during the Q2S conversion were done in haste to meet deadlines and now need to be reconsidered. Debbie stated that it was necessary for every member to be involved in these revisions. Standards for each existing course as well as former courses were reviewed as a group. The three proposals were provided for each member to look over and the floor was opened for suggestions and concerns. The group worked together in making suggestions in removing sectional anatomy and anything regarding CT(Computed Tomography) from the existing curriculum. A motion was made by Wally Waldon to remove CT and Sectional Anatomy entirely from the existing curriculum a nd this motion was 2nd by Matt Dunn. The vote to revise RADT 1070/RADT 1160 in this manner was unanimous. Next the group discussed how to rearrange the existing curriculum to meet the needs of those teaching these courses as well as the students. Due to the fact that the ARRT registry still includes both Analog and Digital radiography which is a concern for all members. Jan Martin suggested dividing the curriculum into 3 separate courses. Jill Dreup agreed that giving students smaller doses of the information would be better for students. Concern for teaching courses during a short summer semester were brought up by Wanda Barbee. Holly Free stated that it was up to each individual college as to how they wanted to sequence course. In revising what was remaining, the group decided to take the 2 courses and divide the curriculum into 3 courses while at the same time considering the fact that we must reduce hours. It was determined that three individual didacit courses would emerge from this discussion. Adding a Lab 2 was also discussed for the new suggested courses. Page 2 of 5

3 After the discussion the following courses, with an explanation of what they should include, along with course numbers were created: Semester A I. Radiologic Science (2 credit hours) RADT 1065 i. Basic Atomic Structure, EM Spectrum, X-ray Properties, Ionizing and Nonionizing radiation, X- ray Production, X-ray Interactions with Matter. II. Radiographic Imaging and Radiographic Imaging Lab (2credit hours, 1 credit hour lab = 3 credits total) RADT 1075 and RADT 1075L i. Image Quality (Density, Exposure, Contrast, Recorded Detail, Distortion), Scatter and Secondary Radiation, Grids, Image Receptors and Holders, (Analog, Digital), Image Acquisition (Analog, Digital, PACS), Image Artifacts (Analog and Digital). 1. Labs include: beam divergence, image quality - SID, OID, distortion, spatial resolution, other ideas? Semester B III. Radiographic Equipment (3 credit hours, 1 credit hour lab = 4 credits total) RADT 1085 and RADT 1085L i. Electricity, Electromagnetism, X-ray Circuit, X-ray tube, AEC, Beam restriction, Filtration (Grids moved to previous semester), QC/QM, Mobile Radiography, Fluoroscopy 1. Labs include: magnetism, electricity, QC These changes were voted on and everyone agreed. CONCLUSIONS CT (Computed Tomography) and Sectional Anatomy was removed from the curriculum for RADT 1070 and RADT The following New Courses were created out of the revision of RADT 1070 and RADT 1160 RADT 1065 Radiologic Science (2 Credit Hours) RADT 1075 Radiographic Imaging (2 Credit Hours) RADT 1075L Radiographic Imaging Lab (1 Lab Credit Hour) RADT 1085 Radiographic Equipment (3 Credit Hours) RADT 1085L Radiographic Equipment Lab (1 Credit Hour) Minutes and documentation of Members present sent to Holly Free Patricia Wynne 10/18/2013 Proposal completed and sent to appropriate chain of command Holly Free TBD Page 3 of 5

4 REDUCTION IN PROGRAM HOURS FOR RADT 2.5 HOURS JAN MARTIN/HOLLY FREE After lunch: Holly asked the question if JRCERT required a specific number of clinical hours? Jan Marin spoke with Leslie Winter at JRCERT and Leslie stated that RADT clinic hours below 1000 ho urs was dangerously low. She suggested to do a 6:1 ration of clnical courses and it would reduce clinic hours. Jamie Wilbanks stated that changing the ratio and cutting hours in clinic as well as revising didactic courses would be more appropriate, not just getting rid of clinical hours. Mark Lane discussed the concern over the gen ed elective and the true need for this course. Wanda Barbee discussed transferring courses over into a B.S. program and that the gen ed courses were beneficial to students who were choosing that route. Mark Lane proposed deleting the additional gen ed elective, but Holly stated that in order to qualify for an Associate s Degree a student must complete 15 hours of gen ed courses. By removing the elective we would not meet that criteria. Jan Martin opened to floor to discuss how we want to change the courses. Don Rogers stated that they do not have a separate lab grade. Patricia Wynne stated that funding would be an issue by not providing a lab and that by including a separate lab we would receive more FTE funding. Mark Lanes's biggest concern in not having enough credit hours available to students to be considered full time. Mark also stated that by cutting our Program hours from 93 credit hours to 72 credit hours, we should offer a 4 semester program, rather than 5 semester program. Jamie Wilbanks brought up removing pathology from the existing curriculum. A motion was made by Martha Dollar to remove Pathology as an individual didactic course and move it to the 3 existing procedures courses as well as description. the motion was passed. Another motion was made to teach pathology according to what body systems were being taught in each individual procedures course. Christ Kowtco made a second motion. Jamie Wilbanks stated that by using case studies within the procedures courses, requiring students to present on pathology affecting the body systems being taught within that particular semester would reinforce what students were learning. Jan Martin asked that a committee be formed that would be willing to review all of the pathology and procedures courses and determine how to combine the two. The following members volunteered: Connie Young- Chair Dana Breeser Chris Kowtko Jamie Wilbanks Patty Wynne Jan Maritn stated that we did not need to move hastily in reducing the hours for the RADT program and that we needed to seriously consider the best approach to this. She asked for a committee to be formed that would work on getting feedback on a Regional level in determining the best way to reduce hours. The Regional Committee Consists of Deanne Collins- Chair Mark Lane Brent Clemmer Donna Yeomans Wally Waldrop Kim Whitaker Jan Martin These members are responsible for working within their region to get feedback from others wit hin their region on suggestions for reducing hours from 93 credit hours to 72 credit hours. When the official "word has come down from the top" the committee will be contacted by Holly Free. Page 4 of 5

5 CONCLUSIONS Committees were formed for 1: Revision of Pathology and Procedures: to combine pathology with existing Procedures courses Connie Young- Chair Dana Breeser Krist Kowtko Jamie Wilbanks Patty Wynne 2: Regional Committee for Reduction in Hours Deanne Collins- Chair Mark Lane Brent Clemmer Donna Yeomans Wally Waldrop Kim Whitaker The meeting was adjourned.
