3 Introduction of University National Taipei University of Nursing and Health Sciences (NTUNHS) is located on 365, Ming Te Road, Peitou District, Taipei, Taiwan. Founded in 1954, NTUNHS was first known as Taiwan Provincial Junior College of Nursing. In August 1994, it was upgraded as fully-fledged college and became the first independent nursing college in Taiwan. Upon the demand for nursing taskforce, NTUNHS has pioneered the nursing and healthcare education in Taiwan. As of the 2009 academic year, NTUNHS has a total of three schools, five departments and twelve graduate institutes, which offer 5 undergraduate programs, 13 master programs and 1 doctoral program. In July 2010 NTCN was renamed to National Taipei University of Nursing and Health Sciences (NTUNHS). The Department of Health Care Management, established in 1994 aims to promote practice and research in the field of health care management, and to provide students with training pertaining to the management of health care and health enterprise. Starting from 1999, the MSc. program majoring in health care management was launched in this department, and a 4-year undergraduate program was initialized in Students who graduate from this department are expected to serve as middle-level health care administrators. The College of Nursing is one of the biggest as well as most sophisticated college in NTUNHS. By having educated countless nursing specialists, the College of Nursing have accumulated abundant teaching experiences and distinguished research accomplishment. Equipped with high-tech medical care instruments, well-trained faculty members combine theory and practicum in order to apply what we have learned in a specific case. The aim of the College of Nursing is to mold students into professionals who possess the following characteristics: learning by doing; disseminating knowledge in specialty areas; integrating their wisdom, minds and services together; and applying both science and liberal arts into their life and daily practice. 1

4 College of Nursing The College of Nursing is comprised of one faculty and four graduate institutes, including the School of Nursing (Bachelor s, Master s and PhD), the nation s only Graduate Institute of Nurse-Midwifery (Master s), the Graduate Institute of Integration of Traditional Chinese Medicine with Western Nursing (Master s), and the Graduate Institute of Health Allied Education. With over 50 members of the faculty holding PhD level nursing certification, our school is the only domestic university offering both academic and vocational nursing training programs, and stands above others as the leading example in the field of professional nursing. School of Nursing The School of Nursing places humanity as its core philosophy of nursing care. To accommodate health care demands at every stages of the life cycle, we strive to develop novel nursing technologies and modes of nursing care applications. To cultivate competent nursing care personnel and advanced care professionals, we integrated the following core values into our academic teachings: compassion, basic biomedicine, clinical nursing skills, communication, cooperation, critical thinking, diligence, ethical and moral professionalism. Graduate Institute of Nurse-Midwifery Our institute is the only domestic organization offering professional mid-wife training. We emphasize family-centric level of woman s basic medical care; with the goal of fulfilling the unique functions of midwives in mind, we set out to provide care for low-risk pregnant women, medical counseling, co-operative management and referrals for healthy women and high-risk pregnant women. In compliance with the Midwifery Act, we develop cooperative mechanisms with practicing gynecologists to provide the best care services. In the future, we plan to shape our institute into a midwifery education and service center that is on par with international standards, offering professional courses and practical clinical trainings for perspective students. We hope to cultivate our graduates into fully-fledged midwifery personnel that excel in both practical and academic fields. Graduate Institute of Integration of Traditional Chinese Medicine with Western Nursing Our institute specializes in empirical nursing care research, and we hope to become the pioneer in combining Traditional Chinese Medicine/complementary therapies with the field of nursing care. In addition, we are actively building the Center of the Integration of Traditional Chinese Medicine with Western Nursing Evidence-Based Nursing Studies, which is our nation s first evidence-based research institute with the goal of combining strategies in complementary therapies and nursing care trainings. Graduate Institute of Health Allied Education Our institute was established to provide courses in strengthening the theoretical and practical capabilities of medical personnel in academic course design, with additional trainings on teaching material design, technology applications and developing teaching strategies. Our research mainly focuses on the development of our nation s knowledge on medical related academic teachings and trainings. 2

5 College of Healthcare Administration and Management The College of Healthcare Administration and Management is comprised of four sections: the College of Health Industry Management, the College of Information Management, the Graduate Institute of Tourism and Health Science, and the Graduate Institute of Long-term care. Our faculty primarily focuses on bridging health care and management, two seemingly unrelated professions, into one coherent field of study that reflects the health care core value of our school. The main educational goals of our college is to bring about modernized health care management with strong information technology and management knowledge as backgrounds, and to adapt proficiently to satisfy demands from the enterprise sectors and the society. College of Health Industry Management The goal of our college is to train professional management personnel with proficiency in management of health care and health enterprise. We provide students with opportunities to pursue trainings in multiple disciplines and career management. Our curriculum includes courses on general health industry management, as well as collaborating with health care industries and organizations to provide five types of career programs for our students. To provide our faculty members and students with excellent teaching, research and service environment, we have established facilities such as the Center for Health Informatics, Center for Statistical Software, Center for Health Environment, Center for Health Database and Center for Research Consultation. College of Information Management The goal of our college is to train information technology and management personnel that can integrate theory with practice, and can cater to today s market demands and future developing trends. Our intention is to drive the progression of information technology application in the fields of business, enterprise and medicine; we hope to cultivate personnel that can manage theories and skills from medical, information and management related fields, identify and resolve problems and questions, and ultimately implement information technology to achieve the philosophy of healthcare management. Graduate Institute of Tourism and Health Science Our goal is to train professional personnel specialized in tourism and health care. The design of our curriculum emphasizes integration of professional knowledge and skills on fields such as sightseeing tourism, recreation and leisure, health sciences and environment ecology. The objectives of our institute can be summarized as I.C.R.T: Independent Thinking students are trained to think independently, logical criticism and expression proficiency; Crisis Management students are trained to deal with tourism related health issues; Research ability improve the academic research skills; Tourism Health students are trained with professional management of tourism health. Graduate Institute of Long-term care Our goal is to train students to become practical long-term care personnel when they graduate, be it practical care workers, management personnel, policy makers or executors, or academic professionals in related fields. Our objective is to provide our students with the following capabilities: (I) Provide professional services, research or education on long-term care. (II) Implement long-term care case and organizational management and inspection. (III) Planning and promoting long-term care related legislatures and systems. 3

6 College of Human Development and Health The College of Human Development and Health is comprised of the Department of Infant and Childcare, Department of Exercise and Health Science, Department of Speech and Hearing Disorders and Sciences, and the Institute of Life and Death Education and Counseling. Our objective is the development of multi-disciplinary teaching and research of the different stages of human life cycle, emphasizing human health development at different stages in life. We plan to implement cross-field integration of colleges, departments and expertise in multiple disciplines, construct electronic learning environment, and increase our student s awareness of life and holistic education on societal compassion. We encourage innovative teaching strategies and research, and strive to bridge together vocational trainings with academic theories. Department of Infant and Childcare Our goal is to train childcare and education professional personnel that can integrate theory with practice, possess logical thinking, and are compassionate, innovative and reflective to meet the childcare demands of our family, society and nation, increase the professional quality of domestic child care. We provide courses and curriculum, grouped into five different fields, based on our faculty member s specialty: child health, education, early treatment, welfare and administration. These courses will help students develop rational thinking, enabling them to understand, evaluate, apply and reflect upon issues related to childcare, as well as active involvement in industry research and development. Exercise and Health Science of NTUNHS The Department of Exercise and Health Science is the only faculty that specifically offers exercise and health related courses in all of the professional medical universities in Taiwan. Our goal is to train professional personnel that are proficient with knowledge of exercise science and health care philosophy, and will go on to implement an exercise and health related safety system for athletes and the general public. Department of Speech and Hearing Disorders and Sciences The founding principles of our institute are: 1. Cultivate and train speech therapists and audiologists that are proficient in both research and clinical applications, provide therapeutic services to the speech and hearing impaired populations, and are able to conduct research work. 2. Training of research professionals in the fields of speech and hearing related sciences. Institute of Life and Death Education and Counseling The educational objectives of our institute are: 1. Educate and train research personnel in the application of life and death education and grief counseling. 2. Development of four major research fields: Life education, Death education, Grief Counseling and Medical Counseling, and Suicide Prevention Theory. 3. Offer in-service trainings and counseling services to workers in the fields of life and death education and grief counseling. 4. Offer services on promotion of life and death issues to the general public. 5. Elevate the domestic awareness of life & death education and grief counseling to international standards. 4

7 Ⅱ. Qualification Eligibility for application is limited to students, [undergraduate] who have a high-school degree or an equivalent degree from foreign high schools accredited by the Ministry of Education, R.O.C. (Taiwan). [master] who have an undergraduate degree or an equivalent degree from foreign universities accredited by the Ministry of Education, R.O.C. (Taiwan). [PhD] who have a master degree or an equivalent degree from foreign universities accredited by the Ministry of Education, R.O.C. (Taiwan) who do not have the oversea Chinese status and do not hold a Republic of China passport for at least the past eight years, who have the evidence of Language proficiency that is equivalent to the TOCFL (Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language) Level 3 or higher or the applicants who can provide related evidence of Chinese proficiency. A Tip for TOCFL Test: All applicants who have not received a high school certificate from an educational institution in Taiwan or a Chinese speaking institution are required to submit official TOCFL scores in order to be considered for admission. The test is administered by the Steering Committee for the Test of Proficiency-Huayu (SC-TOP). Information regarding the TOCFL is available at. Program Duration The duration for this undergraduate s program is limited to 4 years. International students shall successfully pass all courses within four years and receive the Bachelor of Science degree conferred by the National Taipei University of Nursing and Health Sciences in accordance with the laws of the R.O.C. Ministry of Education. If a student fails to finish the requirements for the bachelor s degree within the stipulated time period, the scholarship shall not be extended. Those who have completed all the required courses may continue to apply for the international graduate program in related fields. Ⅲ. Admission 1. The following items must be submitted with the application when applying to the National Taipei University of Nursing and Health Sciences. Application form One photocopy of diploma of the highest degree attained (with official translation to Chinese or English if in other languages) and official transcript of the degree program in English. The diploma shall be subject to validation by the R.O.C. (Taiwan) 5

8 Embassy or Representative Offices in accordance with requirements of the R.O.C. Ministry of Education. (*For non-scholarship applicants, photocopy of diploma and official transcript can be sent to NTUNHS directly by the original high school.) Certificate of health status within 3 months (please refer to NTUNHS medical report), which must include test for HIV as required by the Department of Health, Executive Yuan, R.O.C. Financial Statement (for non-scholarship applicant only) Financial statement must state that you have financial support for a minimum of one year of the program you apply for. Yearly totals must meet or exceed the minimum estimated annual expenses shown below. Please keep in mind that the estimates for living expenses are approximations and that, depending on your lifestyle, these cost may be higher. Transportation to and from Taiwan is not included in these estimates. It should be used to describe your reasons for applying to NTUNHS or the program. This statement may assist the admissions committee in evaluating your aptitude and motivation for undergraduate study. Evidence of Language proficiency 1. For Chinese-taught program applicants, please provide evidence of Chinese Language proficiency that is equivalent to the TOCFL (Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language) Level 3 or higher. 2. For English-taught program, applicants must have the evidence of English proficiency that is equivalent to the TOEFL computer-based test score of 173 (or paper-and-pencil test score of 500) or higher. The TaiwanICDF scholarship applicants, those who are recommended by the R.O.C. (Taiwan) Embassy/ Representative Offices or Taiwan Technical Mission, would receive a preferential consideration and may be waived from the formal English test, if they have been examined to have English proficiency by the R.O.C. (Taiwan) Embassy or Representative Office. Other supporting documents such as publications, awards, or academic hours. 6

11 International Health and Administration Undergraduate Program I. Introduction of Program The program is provided by the Department of Health Care Management at NTUNHS, aiming to provide comprehensive training courses concerning managerial professional development for licensed registered nurses who seek advanced knowledge on health and nursing administration. This program also set its focus on broadening students horizons of medical knowledge and skill of hospital management, and on cultivating students research capacity and leadership in health care and nursing program. With qualified health and nursing administration specialists, we have accumulated abundant teaching experience and distinguished research accomplishment which can fulfill your every need of being a health and nursing administrative professional. The students will obtain the Bachelor of Science (BS) degree from the Department of Health Care Management after the four-year program (including a non-hands-on hospital practicum) is successfully completed. 17 International Nursing Master of Science Program I. Introduction of Program The program is provided by the college of nursing, which is the biggest as well as most sophisticated department in NTUNHS. The TaiwanICDF scholarship applicants, those who are recommended by the R.O.C. (Taiwan) Embassy/ Representative Office or Taiwan Technical Mission, would receive a preferential consideration and may be waived from the formal English test, if they have been examined to have English proficiency by the R.O.C. (Taiwan) Embassy or Representative Office. A Tip for TOEFL Test: All applicants who have not received a bachelor's degree (or higher) from an educational institution in the United States or from one of the exempt countries (Canada, the U.K., the Republic of Ireland, New Zealand, or Australia) are required to submit official IELTS or TOEFL scores in order to be considered for admission. The test is administered by Educational Testing Service. Information regarding the TOEFL is available at 16

19 Program Duration The duration for this master s program is limited to two years. International students shall successfully pass all courses and complete a master thesis within two years and receive the Master of Science degree conferred by the National Taipei University of Nursing and Health Sciences in accordance with the laws of the R.O.C. Ministry of Education. If a student fails to finish the requirements for the master s degree within the stipulated time period, the scholarship shall not be extended. Those who have completed all the required courses may continue to complete the thesis with other funding sources upon the approval of one s national government, the R.O.C. Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the scholarship sponsor institutions. Ⅲ. Admission 1. The following items must be submitted with the application when applying to the National Taipei University of Nursing and Health Sciences. Application form One photocopy of diploma of the highest degree attained (with official translation to Chinese or English if in other languages). The diploma shall be subject to validation by the R.O.C. (Taiwan) Embassy or Representative Office in accordance with requirements of the R.O.C. Ministry of Education. Official transcript of the degree program in Chinese or English. The transcript shall be subject to validation by the R.O.C. (Taiwan) Embassy or Representative Office in accordance with requirements of the R.O.C. Ministry of Education. (*For non-scholarship applicants, photocopy of diploma and official transcript can be sent to NTUNHS directly by the original high school.) Certificate of health status within 3 months (please refer to NTUNHS medical report), which must include test for HIV as required by the Department of Health, Executive Yuan, R.O.C. Financial Statement (for non-scholarship applicant only) Financial statement must state that you have financial support for a minimum of one year of the program you apply for. Yearly totals must meet or exceed the minimum estimated annual expenses shown below. Please keep in mind that the estimates for living expenses are approximations and that, depending on your lifestyle, these cost may be higher. After being reviewed and approved by the International Nursing Program, applications will be submitted to the Committee of International Student Admission at the National Taipei University of Nursing and Health Sciences for final approval. 3. After being notified of admission, students must complete registration procedures within the specified time. Late registration will not be accepted. 4. If any information provided by the student was found falsified, student shall be denied of admission. 5. TaiwanICDF Scholarship: ( Limited to the international program applicants) Scholarships The TaiwanICDF scholarship, including airfare (A Round trip ticket), housing, tuition, credit fees, insurance, book costs and a monthly allowance, will be provided to each student. The scholarship is itemized as follows: Airfare the ICDF shall provide one economy class ticket of the most direct flights to and from Taiwan. Housing the scholarship shall cover the rents of the undergraduate students /graduate students dormitory at National Taipei University of Nursing and Health Sciences. Tuition fees the scholarship shall cover registration and tuition fees at National Taipei University of Nursing and Health Sciences. Credit fees the scholarship shall cover the fees for the credits required for obtaining the B.S. degree/m.s. degree at National Taipei University of Nursing and Health Sciences. Insurance in addition to the mandatory insurance, students shall be insured for accidental and medical coverage while they are in Taiwan. The insurance fees will be paid by the scholarship. Book costs assigned textbooks shall be provided upon the approval of the Department of Health Care Management/ Graduate Institute of Nursing. Allowance (i) for Undergraduate Students - each scholarship program undergraduate student shall receive NT$12,000 per month (NT$144,000 per annum) as allowance for food and miscellaneous living expenses. The sum will be deposited monthly into students local bank account. (ii) for Master Students each scholarship program graduate student shall receive NT$15,000 per month (NT$180,000 per annum) as allowance for food and miscellaneous living expenses. The sum will be deposited monthly into students local bank account. II. SPOT Scholarship: The Taiwan Scholarship Program was established jointly by three government agencies of the Republic of China (Taiwan) --- the Ministry of Education (MOE), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and the National Science Council of the Executive Yuan (NSC) --- to encourage outstanding international students to undertake degree programs in Taiwan. While providing study opportunities for a wide range of disciplines, at Taiwan's universities and colleges, this program also aims to: 1. Promote knowledge, understanding and friendship between people in Taiwan and in countries around the world. 21

24 2. Provide opportunities to increase academic and educational links with international institutions of higher learning. 3. Develop outstanding professionals and experts to meet the needs of the global society. There are three government agencies that fund this program, each with a different focus in terms of recipients' nationalities and study programs MOFA Scholarship: Recipients from countries that have diplomatic relations with the R.O.C. (Taiwan) or countries specified as being diplomatically favorable by MOFA. Undergraduate and/or postgraduate degree programs: Embassies of the R.O.C. can also award a pre-degree Mandarin Language Enrichment Program (LEP) scholarship to recipients to improve their language abilities. MOE Scholarship: Recipients from countries other than those specified in the MOFA Scholarship. Undergraduate and/or postgraduate programs: R.O.C.'s overseas offices can also designate a pre-degree Mandarin Language Enrichment Program (LEP) to recipients to improve their language abilities. NSC Scholarship: Recipients from countries other than those specified in the MOFA Scholarship. Postgraduate programs only. Amount of Scholarships The amount of each scholarship varies in accordance with the funding government agency's policy: 1. MOFA Scholarship: One economy-class, direct-route roundtrip international airfare ticket, plus a monthly stipend of NT$30,000 (approximately US$930). 2. MOE Scholarship: A monthly stipend of NT$25,000 (approximately US$775) for undergraduate or LEP study, and NT$30,000 for a postgraduate degree program. 3. NSC Scholarship: A monthly stipend of NT$30, 000. 25 III. NTUNHS International Scholarship NTUNHS International Scholarship covers tuition and incidental fees. 1. NTUNHS offers scholarships to ensure that qualified outstanding students have the financial resources they need to advance their study. 2. Bachelor Degree students can apply for 4 consecutive years. Master Degree students can apply for 2 consecutive years. 3. This scholarship, which grants full tuition fee, is limited to maximum of 3 master students and 6 bachelor students per year. 4.
