1 2016 KGSP(Korean Government Scholarship Program) Graduate Course Admission Guideline (Applying through University of Ulsan) * University of Ulsan belongs to Regional University, thus could recommend 25 students to NIIED. * Applicants are only allowed to apply for this program via either an overseas Korean Embassy or a Korean University. (Dual application is NOT accepted) * Overseas Korean adoptees have to apply only via an overseas Korean Embassy in case their countries are allotted the adoptee quotas. I. Admission Guideline 1. Admission Process 1) 1 st Round of Admission (by University of Ulsan) - 25 applicants are selected based on document screening and interview(skype or phone). - Up to 4 applicants can be selected from each country. - Successful 25 applicants are recommended to NIIED for the 2 nd round of admission. 2) 2 nd Round of Admission (by NIIED) students are finally selected by the NIIED Selection Committee. (Among around 1,320 applicants recommended by 66 designated universities in Korea) *Applicants who are recommended by a Korean Embassy (or overseas Korean adoptees) and pass the 2 nd round of admission successfully will be evaluated for admission by the three(3) universities they applied. A student has to gain an admission from University of Ulsan and choose her as the final destination to be admitted to University of Ulsan finally. 2. Course (Scholarship) Duration 1) Master s ( ~ ): 1 yr. of Korean language + 2 yrs. of Master study 2) Doctoral ( ~ ): 1 yr. of Korean language + 3 yrs. of Doctoral study *(Important) NO extension of scholarship period available (including the Korean language) *Korean language course is conducted for one year at another university (Designated by NIIED), and only those who receive a TOPIK Level 3 or above can move to the degree course of University of Ulsan. Those who cannot receive a TOPIK Level 3 after the one-year Korean language course will be disqualified from the scholarship. (NO extension of scholarship period available) *In case a student possesses TOPIK Level 5 or above, he or she must be exempted from the Korean language course and start the degree course directly from (The exempted period will be deducted from the total scholarship period; thus 2 yrs. for Master and 3 yrs. for Doctoral course)

Application Eligibility 1) An applicant and his/her parents must have foreign citizenships. *Applicants with Korean citizenship (dual-citizenship) are NOT eligible for this scholarship. *Applicants (including the parents) who previously possessed Korean citizenship need to submit a certificate proving the renunciation of Korean citizenship. 2) Applicants should be in good health, both mentally and physically, to stay in Korea for an extended period of time. *Applicants must submit a Personal Medical Assessment (included in the application form) when he/she applies for this scholarship, and during the Korean language course, an Official Medical Examination will be conducted by NIIED. A serious illness (e.g. HIV, Drug, etc.) will be the main cause of disqualification from the scholarship. *The disabled who satisfy the above are also eligible for the scholarship. *NOT Eligible: Those who are pregnant at the time of application (Disqualified upon discovery) 3) Applicants must be under 40 years of age as of (Born after ) 4) Applicants must hold a Bachelor or Master degree as of *(Important) Applicants who have received a Bachelor or Master degree from a Korean University or enrolled in a degree course at a Korean university before are NOT eligible for this scholarship. (HOWEVER, applicants who have ever studied in a Korean university as an exchange or visiting student (D-2-6 visa) are eligible for this scholarship) *Applicants who apply for a Master program must hold a Bachelor degree or a diploma that is equivalent to or higher than a Bachelor degree. *Applicants who apply for a Doctoral program must hold a Master degree or a diploma that is equivalent to or higher than a Master degree. *Applicants who are expecting to obtain the relevant required degree or diploma by must submit a certificate of degree or diploma expectation, and submit the official certificate of degree or diploma to NIIED by ) Applicants must have a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.64 on a 4.0 scale, 2.80 on a 4. 3 scale, 2.91 on a 4.5 scale, or grades/marks/scores of 80% or higher from the previously attended institution. (Refer to Appendix A for GPA Conversion Table) *(Important) Applicants who do not satisfy the above GPA criteria are NOT eligible for this scholarship. *(Important) If a transcript does not include exact grades/marks/scores information or is difficult to be converted into percentages, an official certificate including the explanation of the student s ranking issued by the attended institution is required. (He/she should be ranked within top 20% to be eligible for this scholarship) 6) Applicants who canceled KGSP scholarship after finally being selected before are NOT eligible. 7) Applicants with good TOPIK or TOEFL (or IELTS) score are given a preference. 8) Applicants applying for Natural Sciences and Engineering field are given a preference. 9) Applicants who are currently university lectures from ODA countries are given a preference. 10) Descendants of Korean War veterans are given additional 5% points of the total marks.

Required Documents *(Important) Submit one original document (placed in a separate envelope) and 3 extra photocopies. *(Important) Documents not in English or Korean must be accompanied by a complete English or Korean translation authenticated by the issuing institution or notarized by a notary s office. 6 6. Important Notes to the document submission 1) Dual application is NOT accepted. Applicants must apply this scholarship via one institution. 2) All application documents must be in Korean or in English 3) Documents should be presented in their original forms. 4) Submitted documents will not be returned to the applicants. 5) In case of submitting photocopied documents, applicants MUST have the copies notarized or apostilled and then submit the notarized or apostilled copies. 6) In case of submitting the original documents that cannot be reissued, applicants are advised to submit notarized or apostilled copies of the original documents. 7) Applications that contain incomplete or forged documents will be disqualified and the application in its entirety will be discarded. 8) An applicant who is expected to graduate by 31 August 2016 must submit a certificate of expected graduation at the time of application. The official graduation certificate must be submitted by 31 August ) As for the submission of the published papers and awards, applicants are allowed to submit photocopies. 10) The proof of citizenship include, but not limited to, the following: - A birth certificate issued by the government of the applicant s country, - A certificate of family registration issued by the government of the applicant s country, or - Passport copies of the applicant and parents. 11) The scores of the language proficiency test must be valid at the time of application. 12) Applicants must submit all the documents by the checklist order. (Checklist for the application documents should be on the front page, followed by the required documents, clipped and attached) 13) All documents submitted should be in A4 size. (In case the document is smaller than A4, put it on an A4 paper, and in case the document is smaller than A4, fold it as A4 size) 14) Letter of Recommendation may be written by an academic advisor, Dept. head or a supervisor if the applicant is under employment. II. Admission Schedule 1. 1 st Round of Admission (by University of Ulsan) 1) Submission of documents: 9 February ~ 20 March ) Document screening & phone interview: 23 March ~ 3 April ) Announcement of the result of the 1 st selection: 6 April 2015 (Posted on UOU website) 4) Recommending the successful applicants to NIIED for the 2 nd Round: 10 April 2015 *(Important) Any applicant who is recommended to NIIED by more than one university will be disqualified from the admission process.

7 2. 2 nd Round of Admission (by NIIED) 1) Selection process: Mid to End April (by NIIED Selection Committee) 2) Announcement for the result of the 2 nd selection: 30 April 2015 (Posted on GKS website) 3) Announcement for final successful candidates: 16 June 2015 (Posted on GKS website) * Admission procedures for Korean Embassies candidates: 1 ~ 29 May Procedure after the admission 1) Visa issuance and flight ticket purchase: 17 June ~ 31 July 2015 *All successful applicants will be provided with a flight ticket by NIIED. 2) Entry into Korea: 24 ~ 26 August ) NIIED Orientation: 31 August ~ 1 September 2015 *Those who do not attend the orientation are disqualified from the scholarship. 4) Beginning of Korean language course: 1 September 2015 *Those with TOPIK Level 5 or above must start their degree program from III. Scholarship Details 1. Period: Same as the course duration 2. Amount 1) Airfare: Round-trip economy class ticket *Airfare for entry will not be provided to scholars who currently reside in Korea at the time of application. *The fees for domestic travel within a scholar s home country and for travel insurance to and from Korea will not be provided. *Scholars from China and the Czech Republic will not be provided with the airfare by NIIED, but be provided by their country of origin according to the mutual agreements. 2) Monthly Allowance: KRW 900,000 per month 3) Research Allowance: KRW 210,000 for scholars in humanities and social sciences, KRW 240,000 for scholars in engineering, natural sciences and arts per semester 4) Relocation (Settlement) Allowance: KRW 200,000 upon arrival 5) Repatriation Allowance: KRW 100,000 upon departure 6) Language Training Fee: Full coverage 7) Tuitions: Full coverage 8) Dissertation Printing Costs: KRW 500,000 ~ 800,000 depending on the actual costs 9) Medical Insurance: KRW 20,000 per month (Limited coverage. Deductible applies.) 10) Special funding for scholars who are proficient in Korean language (TOPIK Level 5 or 6) *KRW 100,000 per month (only during the degree program) (Important) Any scholar who gives up his or her study during the scholarship period is NOT eligible for the return airfare and allowance for repatriation. (Important) Any scholar who drop the program within 3 months after entering Korea should refund all scholarship fees (The airfare of arriving Korea, settlement allowance, monthly stipend, Korean language training expenses, etc.).
