1 Impacting Lives Through Patient Care, Improving the Health of our Community. Jeanie Schmidt Free Clinic Annual Report
2 Our Mission The Jeanie Schmidt Free Clinic (JSFC) is a non-profit, communitybased, free health clinic committed to providing comprehensive, quality health services for uninsured, low-income patients in Fairfax County, through the work of dedicated volunteers. Our Values Everyone deserves quality health care, regardless of ability to pay. Health care will be provided in a hopeful, compassionate, culturally-sensitive manner that is focused on the needs of the patient, preserving their privacy and dignity. Services offered will adhere to the highest quality standards Individuals ineligible for clinic services will be provided with linkages to other programs for access to health care. Community partners will be involved whenever possible to provide unduplicated services to patients in need. Volunteers are integral to every aspect of JSFC from administration to delivery of care. Volunteers and staff treat patients with respect, and in turn, require respect for its volunteers and staff. Address: Jeanie Schmidt Free Clinic Dulles Technology Drive P.O. Box 5143 Herndon, Virginia Website: Phone: Volunteer Information: volunteers@jsfreeclinic.org
3 A Year of Moving Events was a moving year for JSFC in so many ways. In January 2010 JSFC moved to our new expanded clinic location on Dulles Technology Drive Herndon as part of the Connections for Hope service center. We were literally moved by our volunteers who lugged boxes, painted exam rooms and organized the new space to be a welcome and hopeful environment for our patients. We look forward to growing our services with new partner agencies co-located at the facility providing housing assistance, legal services, after-school tutoring, ESL classes, and counseling. The clinic also moved closer to some of our long term goals. A full roll-out of our Shared Medical Appointment program was implemented expanding services to chronically ill adults in a group setting. The clinic launched the We Can program on child obesity and began partnership on a group parenting program. To enhance our volunteer base, the clinic formalized its internship program and added two educational partners in becoming a clinical rotation site for medical and allied health students. What has been the most moving over the past year however, is the impact that the clinic has had on our patients lives. We have seen over 1,000 patients seeking care from a mother who brings in a sick child and leaves with a smile, to the adult with diabetes who is able to regain his health with proper medications and care. It is their stories that move us forward to continue services for our community.

8 Leadership Board of Directors Dr. Chris Oliver, President Mani B. Fierro, Esq, Vice President Aaron Sawyer, Secretary David Maloney, Treasurer Dr. Mark Hughes, Medical Director Winston Liaw Dr. Tom Finley Jennifer Garfinkle JoAnna Fazio Mary Ann Imgram Delegate Tom Rust Richard Downer Pastor Tom Berlin Moving Words from a Patient The whole experience (at the clinic) has made such an impact on me that, until this day, I still carry the clinic I.D. I was given at the time in my wallet as a goodluck charm and a reminder that good people are out there all the time. Letter from the President Dr. Chris Oliver What a year we have had! Looking back, I would have to say we have grown far beyond our expectations. We have added new services, moved to a new location, brought in new board members and partners, and despite hard economic times, increased our donations. JSFC has proven its value to the community and the community has reached out to support us even when they had less for themselves. As Board President, I would like to say thanks to all for adhering to high standards and providing the best care possible to as many patients as we can. Observing the growth and changes throughout the years, there is one consistency the quality and dedication of people involved with this organization. From the beginning, the commitment of the volunteers has made the difference. From those who worked tirelessly with Jeanie Schmidt to set up and break down the clinic each night at the Herndon Middle School in 2002, to the volunteers today who teach diabetes education and parenting classes, the devotion to the clinic and its patients remain strong. I know we will continue to succeed with the support of our community behind us With Gratitude, Dr. Chris Oliver Board Members Mary Ann Imgram, Dr. Winston Liaw, Joanna Fazio, Meagan Ulrich (Exec. Dir), Jenny Garfinkle, Aaron Sawyer and Mani Fierro at the Clinic Open House.
