1 EMERGENCY DECONTAMINATION PROCEDURES Skill Number HAZO 1 Objective: 5.1.2, (3e), 5.3.4, (1)(2)(3)(4)(5), 5.4.1, (4) 1. The Candidate shall be provided one conscious victim or simulation. 2. The Candidate shall be provided with hoseline, nozzle, and water supply. 3. The Candidate shall be given the instructions below before beginning the exercise. The candidate given a conscious contaminated victim in a life threatening situation and the proper tools shall perform emergency decontamination procedures with 100% accuracy. 1. Wears appropriate PPE. 2. Established emergency decontamination site away from contaminated area. 3. Set up hoseline for decontamination. 4. Instructed victim to move from the contaminated area. 5. Washed all contaminated clothing and exposed body parts. 6. Victim s clothing was removed. 7. Washes all body parts with flooding quantities of water. 8. Sent victim for medical treatment as soon as emergency decontamination is completed. 9. Advises medical personnel that the victim has only been through emergency decontamination. 10. Avoided using a straight stream. 11. Prevented direct and indirect contact with product and run-off. Candidate must complete 11 steps to pass objective.
2 Skill Number HAZO 2 ABSORPTION & RETENTION Objective: (2)(a)(h), (3) (a)(g) 1. The candidate shall be provided with a leaking drum, buckets, pads or pigs, dry absorbent and tools. 2. Identify the product to the candidate. The candidate given a leaking container, an identified product, and the proper tools shall perform proper absorption and retention procedures with 100% accuracy. 4. Controls the initial leaking of the product by use of proper tools. 5. Applies pads or pigs to avoid any further runoff of the product. 6. Uses dry powder absorbent, pads or pigs to absorb the initial runoff. 7. Prevent further contamination by leaving all tools and/or equipment in affected area. Candidate must complete 7 steps to pass objective. 0
3 Skill Number HAZO 3 OVERFLOW/UNDERFLOW DAM Objective: (c), (3)(c) 1. The candidate shall be provided with a ditch or culvert with water flowing through it or simulation. 2. The candidate shall be provided with needed materials for constructing an appropriate dam. The candidate given a spill of an identified product lighter/heavier than water flowing into a culvert or ditch and the proper tools shall perform proper damming procedures with 100% accuracy. Evaluator choice: 1. Overflow dam 2. Underflow dam 2. Approaches from the upwind side. 3. Prevents direct contact with product. 4. Chooses the appropriate type of dam to be utilized. 5. Applies the dam at the further most point in the ditch to avoid contact. 6. Controls excessive runoff. Candidate must complete 6 steps to pass objective.
4 Skill Number HAZO 4 DIVERSION Objective: (2)(f), (3)(f) 1. The candidate shall be provided with a flowing product. 2. The candidate shall be provided with needed supplies for constructing diversion operations. The candidate given a flowing product that has been identified and the proper tools shall perform diversion procedures with 100% accuracy. 4. Places the appropriate barrier in advance of the spill. 5. Applies the appropriate angle to divert the spill to the desired area. Candidate must complete 5 steps to pass objective.
5 Skill Number HAZO 5 DIKING Objective: (2)(d), (3)(d) 1. The candidate shall be provided with an identified flowing product. 2. The candidate shall be provided with needed materials for accomplishing diking operations. The candidate given an identified flowing product and speed with the provided tools shall perform diking procedures with 100% accuracy. 1. Wears appropriate PPE. 4. Places the appropriate barrier in advance of the spill. 5. Constructed a semi-circle or V shaped dike to contain the product in the area. 6. Applies appropriate materials to contain runoff. Candidate must complete 6 steps to pass objective.
6 Skill Number HAZO 6 VAPOR DISPERSION Objective: (2)(i), (3)(i) 1. The candidate shall be provided with a leaking container. 2. The candidate shall be provided with needed materials and supplies for performing vapor dispersion. The candidate given a leaking container of an identified gaseous product that is non water reactive and the provided tools shall perform vapor dispersion procedures with 100% accuracy. 2. Approaches from the upwind side. 3. Selected and operated a method of vapor dispersion. 4. Identifies the direction runoff will travel. 5. Places a barrier in advance of the runoff (if using water spray). 6. Prevents direct contact with product. Candidate must complete 6 steps to pass objective. 0

The candidate shall be provided with tarps, pigs or pads, or dry containment. 3. The candidate shall be provided with a charged hoseline with a foam or fog nozzle, eductor and foam concentrate. 4. The candidate shall be given the instructions below before beginning the exercise. The candidate given an identified dumped liquid product that is non water reactive and the proper tools shall perform foam vapor suppression procedures with 100% accuracy. 1. Wears appropriate PPE. 4. Identifies the direction runoff will travel. 5. Places the appropriate retaining structure or barrier in advance of the spill (tarps, pads or pigs, or dry containment). 6. Applies a vapor suppressing foam to the product to suppress the vapor. 7. Controls runoff. Candidate must complete 7 steps to pass objective.
