1 MODULE 16: PUBLIC HEALTH INFRASTRUCTURE IN THE UNITED STATES: AN INTEGRATED SYSTEM Public Health Infrastructure in the United States: An Integrated System Jennifer Ibrahim, PhD, MPH Associate Professor College of Health Professions and Social Work, Temple University
2 Learning Objectives Define the public health infrastructure at the local, state, and federal levels and their core functions. Describe the emerging public health workforce demands and how academic institutions are meeting those demands. Identify the key areas of public health services research and data to evaluate health department structure and performance. Discuss practical examples of health department performance, including health assessments and improvement plans. 2
3 HP2020 Objectives Goal: To ensure that Federal, State, Tribal, and local health agencies have the necessary infrastructure to effectively provide essential public health services. PHI-3 Increase the proportion of Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) accredited schools of public health, CEPH accredited academic programs, and schools of nursing (with a public health or community health component) that integrate t Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals into curricula.
