Registered Nurses who obtained their degrees outside of California may be admitted, but they need a current California nursing license. New ADN graduates need to have passed NCLEX by the time they begin their first clinical nursing course. The National Council of State Boards of Nurses Member Board jurisdictions require that a candidate for RN licensure pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) that measures the competencies needed to perform safely and effectively as a newly licensed, entry-level nurse.
