2 INTRODUCTION The MaricopaNursing/Northern Arizona University (NAU) Concurrent Enrollment Associate Degree/Baccalaureate Degree Nursing Program is designed for qualified associate degree nursing students who are interested in earning their Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree while pursuing their associate s degree in nursing. The Concurrent Enrollment Program (CEP) allows students to pursue an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in nursing while providing an affordable course of study. When followed in sequence, this program enables students to complete their BSN degree concurrently in the same semester as graduating with their AAS degree, or in one semester after. For students who will be completing their BSN following completion of their AAS, successful completion of the NCLEX and licensure as a RN is required for enrollment into their final BSN requirements. Students enrolled in the CEP will follow the traditional course of study for all MaricopaNursing students pursuing their AAS degree in nursing, but at the same time they will also be enrolled in required NAU nursing courses. Because NAU courses are taken online or in hybrid format, all courses will be offered in the greater Phoenix area. BSN-prepared nurses are highly valued by potential employers, and MaricopaNursing/NAU CEP graduates are equipped with the knowledge and skills to begin their nursing career with a degree that will promote professional knowledge and advancement. CONCURRENT ENROLLMENT PROGRAM INFORMATION The MaricopaNursing/NAU Concurrent Enrollment AAS/BSN Program is a 6-semester program offered through participating community colleges in the Maricopa Community College District. A limited number of participants are selected from the pool of MaricopaNursing students who have met all Concurrent Enrollment Program eligibility requirements and have applied to the CEP. ELIGIBILITY To be considered for participation in the CEP, the following is required: Complete the MaricopaNursing program application. Acceptance of the completed application into the applicant pool (queue). Complete all MaricopaNursing and NAU prerequisite and corequisite requirements. Meet the minimum GPA of 3.0 in all MaricopaNursing and NAU courses that are noted with one asterisk ( * ) on the following page. Register for and attend a CEP Information Session. When all requirements have been met for program admission, register for and attend a CEP Application Session. Registration only available after attending a CEP Information Session. At the Application Session, submit the CEP application and copies of your completed admission checklist, HESI Admission Assessment (A2) scores, and unofficial transcripts. Meet all Health and Safety requirements of MaricopaNursing and NAU School of Nursing after acceptance to CEP.

All NAU and Maricopa pre/co-requisites must be completed prior to beginning NAU nursing coursework. Acceptance to the CEP program is provisional for applicants pending in-progress course completion. All students must complete both NAU and MaricopaNursing program prerequisites as noted above. To ensure that prerequisites meet program requirements, students are encouraged to meet with MCCD and NAU college advisors. Attendance at a CEP Information Session is mandatory before application to the program. All CEP courses will be taught at one of the MaricopaNursing campuses, the NAU North Valley campus, or online. No CEP courses will be held at the NAU Flagstaff campus. Final determinations of transfer credits will be made by MCCD and NAU admissions personnel. Application and acceptance to Northern Arizona University (NAU) School of Nursing is completed after eligibility into the CEP is determined. If you have been placed into a MaricopaNursing cohort, you are not eligible to transfer into the CEP Program. HEALTH AND SAFETY REQUIREMENTS MaricopaNursing and Northern Arizona University School of Nursing have Health and Safety Requirements that must be met prior to enrolling and participating in any clinical experiences. Healthcare agencies throughout the state require vaccinations, titers, and other healthcare related requirements (examples of these requirements are background checks, CPR, drug and nicotine testing, etc.) These requirements are subject to change per healthcare agency contracts with the educational institution and students must be compliant with agency requirements prior to and throughout the program.
5 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Who can apply to the Concurrent Enrollment Program (CEP)? All students who have completed the eligibility requirements for the CEP are encouraged to apply. Where does the program take place? The CEP is offered at a variety of MaricopaNursing program sites. NAU courses are primarily online or are offered in the Phoenix area. Is there a waiting list for the CEP? There is no waiting list for the CEP. If you are not accepted into the program for the semester to which you applied, you must reapply for the semester for which you wish to be considered for enrollment. Do I have to attend a CEP Information Session? Yes. Information about applying to the CEP program can only be obtained at an Information Session. Check your Student Status page for future locations, dates, times, and registration instructions. You must be in attendance for the entire Information Session in order to have your name placed on the list for program consideration, so please plan to arrive on time and remain for the entire session. How do I register for a CEP Information Session? Registration for a CEP Information Session is completed through your MaricopaNursing Student Application Status page. Do I have to attend an Application Session? Yes, if you want to apply for the CEP program. Representatives from MaricopaNursing and NAU will be on-site to verify your eligibility and accept your application if you meet all requirements. Registration for an Application Session is completed through your MaricopaNursing Student Application Status page. What should I bring to the Application Session? Please bring the completed CEP Application, copies of your unofficial college transcripts, and HESI Admission Assessment (A2) test scores. What are we looking for in a potential candidate who is applying for the CEP? Applications that meet eligibility requirements will be reviewed and student selection will be based on GPA, previous college degree completion, and HESI A2 scores. If I am not selected for the CEP can I reapply? As long as you meet the current CEP requirements, you are eligible to reapply. Do I need to be admitted to the MaricopaNursing pool and to NAU? To be eligible to apply for the CEP, you must be in the MaricopaNursing applicant pool. Following your acceptance into the CEP, you will apply to NAU, and official transcripts must then be submitted to both the MaricopaNursing college where you will attend and to NAU. Is there a way I can finish the program faster? Yes, NAU has a Fast-Track program that allows students to complete the AAS and BSN concurrently. Please see the Fast-Track Course of Study for more information. Where can I learn more about the CEP? For more information about the CEP, including financial aid information and CEP application, visit our website at
6 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (continued) How much does the CEP cost? Tuition costs* for the 35 credits of MaricopaNursing AAS courses = $2,940 Tuition costs** for the required 30 credits of NAU BSN courses = $10, Textbooks, supplies, and university fees are additional. If I am receiving financial aid, how will it be disbursed between the two schools? Because federal regulations require that financial aid can only be disbursed through one college at a time, you will need to apply for financial aid through NAU and complete and sign a consortium agreement for financial aid disbursement. Although the financial aid between the two programs is designed to work seamlessly, this cannot be guaranteed, so there may be times when you will be asked to pay your MaricopaNursing program tuition before you receive your NAU financial aid check. You will need to be prepared to pay your MaricopaNursing program tuition out of pocket or by payment plan until the balance of your financial aid is awarded by NAU. How are classes scheduled? You will be registered for your MaricopaNursing classes through the nursing department. Course schedules will be posted on Blackboard. NAU courses are primarily online. Hybrid courses will be scheduled around MaricopaNursing courses. When do web-based classes start? The NAU Concurrent Program web-based classes start a semester prior to the first semester of the MaricopaNursing program and continue throughout the remaining semesters. Where can I go for more information about this program? Detailed program information is provided at CEP Information Sessions. Register in your Application Status Page at When can I register for the NUR330 course? Following acceptance into the CEP, you will attend an orientation session. Where do I go for academic advisement for this program? MCCD and NAU are available for pre-application advisement at the individual campuses that offer the CEP.
