1 2017 Perry Hall High School Marching Band Camp Counselor Registration If you are reading this packet then you have the opportunity to carry on your legacy by becoming a marching band counselor. Graduates of the Gator Marching Band become counselors in the summer after graduation. This is an opportunity to say your last goodbyes to your friends and leave your mark on the next marching band. The first day of camp is July 24, 9am to 5pm and it is for Percussion, Color Guard, ALL Freshmen, and Section Leaders. The rest of the week is July 25 July 28 for all members. The day-to-day schedule is outlined on the schedule included in this packet. Everyone will learn the basics of marching and performing, as well as memorizing music and/or routines. As a counselor, you will need to help out during at least one of the days of the first week of camp. Jobs including getting water, getting ice, managing the Spirit Board, assisting in sectionals (possibly), and generally being available to run any last-minute errands. This time is also important for you to get to know the staff and the students and for them to get to know you. The second week of camp is July 30-August 4. week starts off with two full days and two half days at Camp Ramblewood in Darlington, MD. Due to the rising costs of Ramblewood, we are reformatting the counselor roles and responsibilities. You will still design, manage, and run the evening events including Gator Games and movie night. However, each day you will need to arrive at camp after dinner (around 6pm), spend the night in the counselor cabins, and have breakfast the following morning. After breakfast, you will need to leave campus. One person will be designated as Lead Counselor to assist in communication and planning, but all counselors must attend a summer meeting to assign duties and set expectations. The meeting will be held on Monday, July 24 th at 12:30pm. Please contact Mr. Engel ASAP if you cannot attend that meeting. Counselors who will only be able to assist during the first week will not need to pay a fee. Those that are taking advantage of the full experience and will come to Ramblewood will need to cover the cost of food. The fee is $50 and should be turned in with your registration on Monday, June 5. Medical forms need to be completed if you are staying with us at Ramblewood and are due by the start of band camp. Please pay by check or money order, payable to Perry Hall Band Boosters. Cash is not acceptable. Be sure to write the student s name on the check. During the school year, the marching band rehearses from August through early November from 6:00-8:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. Even though you will likely be busy at college and in the workplace, we welcome you to come back and check on us periodically to see how we re doing! Prescribed and OTC Medications: All prescribed and over-the-counter medication is to be turned into the attending Registered Nurse on the morning of departure for Camp Ramblewood. All medication at Camp Ramblewood is to be kept in the possession of and administered by the attending Registered Nurse.
