1 RISK ASSESSMENT FOR VISIT TO LEICESTER CENTRAL MOSQUE, CONDUIT STREET Risk Assessment- Walking to Place of Visit Hazard Potential People Harmed Risk Control Further Action Slips, Trips and Falls All Ascertain seriousness of fall by checking for head injury. If child is unconscious, immediately call for an ambulance and ask First Aid trained colleague to intervene. Inform School Road Accident All RISK AREAS: CROSSING MAIDSTONE ROAD CROSSING SPARKENHOE ROAD CROSSING CONDUIT STREET If injury is minor, check if child is able to go on. If not, inform school so a staff member can pick the child up. If so, continue and monitor child throughout trip. Whilst walking, children walk in pairs. Staff members place themselves at different points and walk roadside. When crossing road, make sure highway code is followed strictly. Staff member acts as crossing patrol and stays in middle of road until all traffic has passed. Inform School. School to contact parents. Page 1 of 5

2 BE EXTREMLY CAREFUL WHERE VIEW IS RESTRICTED. On Maidstone road, a spot will be picked where the view is clear. Furthermore, to cross a usually busy Sparkenhoe road, children will cross at a zebra crossing. In view of an accident: Move those who are unaffected to a safe distance. Deal with casualties as best as one can until emergency help arrives. Illness Children Ascertain seriousness of illness. Deal with illness on site if able to do so. Call ambulance if serious. First Aid trained colleague deals with child until emergency help arrives. Member of staff becomes ill or injured Staff Supervision reorganised to take into account the member of staff who is now missing. Contact made with establishment so that next of kin can be informed as soon as Contact school as soon as Contact Crisis Line as soon as Co-operate with emergency services and at least one member of staff accompanies injured child to hospital. They remain there until parents or guardians arrive. 3 PLAN B: Ascertain if planned activities can take place and safest way to proceed. Within Mosque Staircases Children will move around building in class groups, as opposed to year groups. They will be warned about behaviour on staircases and will walk single file, with a staff member at the beginning and end of the line. PLAN B prepared and fully risk assessed. If there is not same sex supervision for this, use the unisex disabled toilet for the gender group without direct supervision. (See Slips, Trips and Falls) Page 3 of 5

4 Obstructions Exits Slipping in Ablution Area The group leader will, in conjunction with mosque staff, ensure nothing is left within pathways in and outside of the mosque. Exits and Fire Exits clearly marked. MOSQUE STAFF MEMBER TO LET CHILDREN AND STAFF KNIW ABOUT THESE DURING WELCOME TALK. EXITS MONITORED BY MOSQUE STAFF DURING VISIT (OR EXITS SECURED) WHILE CHILDREN ARE IN MOSQUE IN ORDER TO AVOID ANYONE GETTING IN Mosque staff will ensure ablution area is clear of surface water on floor. Group leader to ensure that ablution area is clear of surface water on floor before taking children in. If small area has water on floor, this is clearly marked by HAZARD SIGN and then quickly cleaned up. Page 4 of 5
