3 2. Cycle Numbers and Undertones of Days through Calculation Instructor Find the cycle number and undertone on July 17 of a 5-cycle year. Example: Step one: Step two: Determine the cycle number for the month. July of a 5-cycle year is a 5-cycle number month. Workbook Reduce the day of the month to a single digit (17th, = 8) and add this number to the cycle number of the month. Reduce to a single digit to calculate the cycle number of the day = 13, = 4 Cycle Number of Month Single- Digit Value of date Cycle Number of Day Step three: Add this number to the cycle number of the month to calculate the undertone: = 9 Cycle Number of Month Cycle Number Day Undertone of Day Therefore, the 17th of July in a 5-cycle year is a 4-9 day. 3. Step one: Step two: Step three: Calculate the cycle number for the month. July is a 5-cycle number month in a 5-cycle year. Calculate the cycle number for the day. The 1st is a 6-cycle number for the day. Refer to the grid. For a 6-cycle number day, refer to the 6th column and go down the right-hand column (for daylight saving time) to the 9:30-10:30 row.
