2 From the Editor s Desk A new year, a new beginning! Welcome to yet another edition of our newsletter, in which we bring you exciting news on our new offerings. Recently the Society launched the Cimas Rescue Ground Ambulance Service. The introduction of this service, which is available to both members and non members, is aimed at providing quality medical services in pre-hospital settings. We also unveil the new Cimas clinic in Manresa (Lafarge Complex), which is intended to serve Harare East residents. We continue to make efforts to ensure members obtain value for money in terms of health and wellness. This year we have started on a high note by giving you another gym option under igo, our health and wellness programme. We promise to keep adding value partners, so members can enjoy more benefits for less. Continue to follow us on social media as we update you on more igo partners as the year progresses. This month the Society joins the world in celebrating with those who have fought the cancer battle and won, while remembering too those who are still fighting this non communicable disease. The theme of World Cancer Day this year is: We can. I can. The theme encourages us all to explore how everyone together and individually can play a part in reducing the global burden of cancer. The Society continues to explore ways of fighting the scourge through its health and wellness programmes. You are free to send your suggestions on how we can improve the programme. Cimas has made its mark by providing diverse medical services that demonstrate its strengths in innovation and commitment. Cimas is dedicated to providing quality health and wellness services, which is why it has introduced a ground ambulance service. The ground ambulance is a critical component of the Cimas Emergency Rescue Service. It is the first point of contact for individuals in a medical emergency. The road ambulance delivers pre-hospital medical services to the public. While the primary mandate of the ambulance service is to respond to all patients in emergency situations, the Society s establishment of this service is a response to member feedback on service access. Cimas Rescue Ground Ambulances are equipped with state-of-the-art Advanced Life Support (ALS), trauma and resuscitation equipment and are manned by highly qualified medical personnel. For critically ill patients, the ambulances can be fitted with complete life support, ventilation and monitoring equipment. Trained crews (doctors and nurses) accompany and care for the patient throughout the journey. All ambulances carry a full range of spinal immobilisation equipment. Cimas Rescue is able to care for newborn babies, children and adults. The safety and comfort of our patients and passengers is our utmost priority. ISSUE NO. 14 FEBRUARY

4 Frequently Asked Questions Q: What is a benefit limit? A: A benefit limit is the maximum amount that can be accessed for a service or related service for a period of time. Different packages have different benefit limits which are linked to contribution levels. The limit is per service and per specific period. If the limit is not used within the benefit period, it does not roll over to the next year. Benefit limits are NOT transferable from one beneficiary to another or to a non-member. Q: How does the Society determine benefit limits? A: The limits are structured using the prevailing tariff/fee structure in comparison with the provider charges linked to the package. Q: Can one utilise the benefit limits however one wishes? For example, the dental benefit limit on the Private Hospital package is $1,500 per membership year. Does this mean one can utilise the entire amount on any dental procedure of one s choice, for instance on fillings? A: The benefit limits are there to guarantee what the Society is committed to pay to cover its members based on the package they access. The utilisation of benefit limits is subject to tariff fees. Q: Can a benefit also have a limit on the number of times one can access a service during a membership year? A: Yes. Some benefits can only be accessed a set number of times within a given period, while others have no such limit. For example, one can only access two ultrasound scans during pregnancy. Another example is that of refraction, which is limited to once in six months. These types of services are ordinarily accessed at intervals such as these and do not require as frequent access as other services that do not have these limitations. Engage Question of the Month? 5 CIMAS CARES The following letter was received from a Rowland Square Dental Clinic patient: Good day I hope this mail finds you in good health. I had a dental procedure (fillers) done on me on the 11th of December 2017 at Cimas Clinic (Rowland Square) from 8.30am by a certain female dentist (name forgotten). I want to express my utmost gratitude for the manner in which the procedure was done. The level of professionalism left me in awe and I want to commend both the dentist and her female assistant who attended me. My teeth are now in pristine condition and I am thankful.
