1 EARTHQUAKE DISASTER 2015 IN NEPAL SITUATION AND RESPONSE REPORT (4) Report Submitted To: Goodwill Community Foundation-USA, District Disaster Relief Committee-Kavre, Nepal, Rotary Clubs worldwide, well wishers, partners and supporters Report Submitted By: Rotary District 3292 Rotary Club of Dhulikhel Community Development and Relief Agency Nepal Report Submitted On: Tuesday May 1,

2 Situation Report: Earthquake Disaster Survey for the Singaporean Medical team from 'Mercy Relief' to Sindhupalchok. Tremor are quite less compared to past few days, today sensed 2-3 tiny quakes which may be the magnitute of not more than 5 richter scale. We left Banepa from 8.30 am with the team. In our team were Rotarians, CDRA Nepal Volunteers, Rotractors and two members from Mercy Relief, Michael and Carol Liew. On either side of the road we could witness the devastation of mud and stone houses. Even the concrete houses at places were damaged beyond repair. People were on the road with their belongings for survival, some were building the temporary shelter some were just siting in dismay. Pictures taken on the way of destruction. After reaching to health post of Melamchi, we came to know there Japanese team were busy erecting the tent for the setup for check up for which we helped. We talked with a Nepali doctor there and asked if he knew for the requirement of the Health Camp in any area there. With his suggestion, we moved further to Chanaute where it was said there could be the requirement. We reached Chanaute of Sindhupalchok further north of Melamchi and walked for half an hour to Mahankal (as the road was blocked by the rubbles of the damage which was yet to be removed) looking for suitable place for the medical camp so that if the camp is set the Mercy Relief people can check about 300 people in a day. We could not find any such places needy in large number as 300 in a day. We doubted about the availability of the patients seeking medical assistant in that number there. We heard there was a health camp so we went to see the camp organized by NRNA. They were saying that they had started the camp from 7.00 am in the morning it was 1.00pm when we were there, we could see some of the people seeking for the medical help till that time. They had a mobile team for villages, they were doing a wonderful job covering the remote area for bringing the injured people to the camp and if need be to the hospitals. Mr. Michael talked with one person about the feasibility but for the capacity of about 300 per day we did not see the need of the specialist there. We then discussed about the possibility at the local hospital at Dhulikhel since it had already been 7 days of the disaster, and most needy were airlifted (as reported by the locals) and some minor (fracture bones and bruises) were taken by two wheelers and local ambulances to the biger hospital to Dhulikhel Hospital and Kathmandu. Upon reaching to the Dhulikhel Hospital we talked with Dr. Rajendra Koju (Hospital Chief) and he was requesting for the equipments (more hospital beds with blankets and sheets) and medicine. 1
