3 COPS Hiring Recovery Program (CHRP) Amount Available: $1 billion Solicitation Period: March 16 April 14, 2009 CHRP provides funding for approved entry-level salaries and fringe benefits of full-time officers Purpose - to create and preserve jobs and to increase community policing capacity and crimeprevention efforts 3

14 Methamphetamine Initiative (Meth) (continued) Funding to establish and enhance problem-solving strategies to encourage community policing efforts that combat the use and distribution of methamphetamine 14 May be used to address such issues as child endangerment, enforcement, intelligence gathering, drug courts, partnership development, precursor chemicals, prevention, production, training, and treatment

17 Secure Our Schools (SOS) Program Amount Available: $16 million 17 Solicitation Period: April 20 May 8, 2009 Funding to establish and enhance school safety equipment and programs May be used for The placement and use of metal detectors, locks, lighting, and other deterrent measures Security assessments Security training of personnel and students Coordination with local law enforcement Any other measure that may provide a significant improvement in security

18 Secure Our Schools (SOS) Program (continued) Eligibility and requirements Open solicitation All local, state, and tribal law enforcement agencies that have primary law enforcement authority within a partner primary or secondary school are eligible to apply A local cash match of 50% towards the total cost of the approved grant project is required 18

19 Tribal Resources Grant Program (TRGP) Amount Available: $20 million 19 Solicitation Period: Feb 27 April 10, 2009 Funding to Federally Recognized Tribes with established law enforcement agencies May be used for Basic and specialized law enforcement training Background investigations Uniforms Standard basic issue equipment Technology Vehicles

20 20 Tribal Resources Grant Program (TRGP) (continued) Eligibility and requirements Must be federally recognized tribe with established police department or served by contract with BIA law enforcement No local share requirement for 2009 TRGP grants Funding limits Agencies with 20 or fewer officers may apply for up to $200,000 Agencies with more than 20 officers may apply for up to $400,000

21 Child Sexual Predator Program (CSPP) Amount Available: $18 million Solicitation deadline: TBD Funding to law enforcement agencies to establish or enhance strategies to locate, arrest, and prosecute child sexual predators and to enforce state sex offender registration laws 21

22 22 Child Sexual Predator Program (CSPP) (continued) May be used for Developing, enhancing, or maintaining sex offender registration programs or functions Improving information sharing between law enforcement and other service providers to investigate and prevent child sex crimes Managing high-risk offenders in the community through strategic problem analysis and response development Establishing or enhancing efforts to locate, arrest, and prosecute known child sex offenders

23 Child Sexual Predator Program (CSPP) (continued) Eligibility and requirements State, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies, nominated by a U.S. Attorney s Office or U.S. Marshal s Office, with particular need for resources to locate, arrest, and prosecute child sexual predators. There is no local share requirement The maximum amount of funding per request - $500,000 23

24 Grant Application Tips Tips for Preparing Successful Grant Applications Register for online applications well in advance (at least two weeks) before the application deadline. Ensure complete compliance with current grants (progress reports, Financial Status Reports, past audit or site visit issues are resolved, etc.) Narrative sections should be well-written and should address all relevant sections/questions 24
