1 MIC Research Fellowship Scheme Application Form The MIC Research Fellowship Scheme offers faculty members an opportunity to gain leave of absence to further their research. The terms and conditions governing the scheme are contained within the document Academic Staff Development & Research Policy (Revised 2005). This document should be consulted before filling this form. Points for clarification should be addressed to the Research Office, MIC. The Fellowship Scheme is administered by the CRD and its recommendation on awards is subject to approval by An Fo-Choiste Stiúrtha and An Bord Rialaithe. An annual Fellowship is awarded through a competitive application process, adjudicated upon by a panel consisting of CRD members and external reviewers. Awards are announced each September, and post dated to September of the following year. Acceptance of the MIC Fellowship is subject to a special contract, and precludes without exception acceptance of any alternative professional leave award for the year specified. Applications for leave shall be adjudicated on the basis of the following criteria: a) The research record of the applicant; b) The productivity of previous leaves of absence of the applicant; c) The potential of the proposed research; d) The likelihood of the work leading to the publication of a book, chapter, or article(s) in a reputable journal, or to the publication of any recognised research output which is of scholarly value; e) The likelihood of collaborative research emerging inter-institutionally and/or internationally. Completed application forms together with Appendices 1-6 must be submitted to the Research Office by by Friday, 20 th April

No.: NOTE: It is the responsibility of applicants to secure referees reports, and these must be submitted at the same time as all other documentation and on the deadline date specified. Reports must be provided in hard copy within a sealed, signed envelope. They must be typed on the official stationery of the referee s organisation and duly signed by the referee. 4

5 SECTION D Additional Documentation Appendix 1 Project Description (minimum 450 words) Appendix 1 should detail the research theme, its objectives, the methodology to be used, its contribution to your research field and why the project should be conducted under the terms of the Fellowship. Please indicate any ethical issues arising and how these are to be resolved. Appendix 2 Supply details of previous leaves of absence and outcomes, where relevant. Appendix 3 Append details of your five most significant publications to date. Publication details should follow the Harvard convention. Applicants must specify the nature of the publication (e.g. authored book, journal article), the target/status of the publication (international, national, local, other) and the review status of the publication (peer reviewed, editorially reviewed, non-reviewed) Examples Bush, G. & Hick, K.R Fish stock decline in the Porcupine Basin.
