Testimonials We spoke to some partner representatives present during the P2L2 Study Visit and Steering Group Meeting in Bordeaux (7-9th November 2017) to better understand the regions that are represented in the P2L2 project as well as their regional policy goals in relation to the project. Sara di Falco Piedmont Region/ Italy Sara di Falco is one of the representatives of the Piedmont region who was present. She says that the Piedmont region would like to improve its regional innovation ecosystem, specifically on topics related to advanced materials and the aerospace sector: Goals that are directly in line with the project goals of the P2L2 project. Piemonte has been a very active participant in the study visits to other partner s premises. For Sara, their participation strengthens their own framework in which they have to promote their public policies.
Uffe Hoeg Andersen The Danish Agency for Institutions and Educational Grants (DAEIG)* We spoke with Uffe Hoeg Andersen from The Danish Agency for Institutions and Educational Grants (DAEIG). DAIEG administers innovation networks. They are bridge builders between science and private sector companies. They work with all relevant actors that can help companies innovate and get in contact with scientific partners. Andersen says that like other partners, DAIEG joined the P2L2 project to improve their innovation delivery systems. He has observed that joining the project the P2L2 project has helped DAIEG better understand how to integrate strategy on various policy levels, especially in regard to smart specialization. *formerly The Danish Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation (DASTI), up until 1st January 2017
Charlotte Rohlin Bastrup The Danish Agency for Institutions and Educational Grants (DAEIG)* Charlotte Rohlin Bastrup also from The Danish Agency for Institutions and Educational Grants (DAEIG), agrees with Andersen. She stated that it is important to learn from how other partners work with smart specialization and possibly adapt some of the advantageous polices into their own program. *formerly The Danish Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation (DASTI), up until 1st January 2017
Caroline Privat Ministry of Economics, Labour and Ports - Free Hanseatic City Bremen, Germany Caroline Privat is representing the Ministy of Economics, Labour and Ports - Free Hanseatic City Bremen in Northern Germany. She is responsible for industry and cluster strategies in the city-state of Bremen. She states that the Ministry joined the P2L2 project for exchanging experiences with other European regions that are also working on their innovation strategies. While attending the various P2L2 meetings, she has observed the benefits first hand. Mutual visits to each region has brought together people with similar foci on industrial and economic development in their regions. The process has helped guide many partner regions who are trying to find the new key enabling technologies in their region. Privat is very positive that this project can involve more companies, big and small, to develop technological roadmaps for the future development of material sciences.
Bastian Müller EcoMaT / Bremen Bastian Müller is the project manager for EcoMaT, one of the Bremen s policy instruments in the field of advanced materials. EcoMat is a research and technology center that is being built in Bremen. Once completed, it will house many of Bremen s commercial and research experts in the field of lightweight materials. Müller says that Bremen is in the P2L2 project to learn about what other regions are doing in the field of advanced materials and to seek out new topics and potential collaborations from the partners. Müller sees great potential in improving Bremen s policy instruments and technology roadmaps though collaboration with other regions.
Linas Eriksonas FTMC / Vilnius, Latvia Eriksonas represents a stakeholder organization from Vilnius, Lithuania: The Center for Physical Sciences and Technology and the Laser and Engineering Technologies Cluster. As a project manager, he is constantly looking for possible contacts and leads for collaborating with industry, specially form other EU countries. Eriksonas states that his region is well known for its laser technologies, laser applications for industry and laser micromachining. By attending the various study visits organized by the P2L2 project, he takes on the role of technology innovation scout, searching for new ideas and collaboration opportunities. Eriksonas states that compared to other participating regions, their region does not have a very strong aerospace, chemistry and material science industry. They do, however have a strong foundation in laser technology and engineering. He therefore sees his group s participation in the project as a very good complimentary situation where they can match technologies that are produced in one region with the needs of other regions. Eriksonas attended several study visits and he is very impressed by how other regions have put innovation policies into practice. He is saw how the different regions have been setting up infrastructures either from scratch, by attracting human capital technologies, or by adding additional capacities to existing research infrastructures. These are the lessons he wishes to bring home.
Philippe Troyas Ariane Group / Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region / France We spoke with Philippe Troyas who works for the Ariane Group, project stakeholder and promoter of P2L2, whose core businesses are aerospace and defense and security. Troyas works directly with R&D and is involved in discovering new processes and solutions. Troyas says that Ariane Group is very active in searching for compatible international partners in Europe. This is one of the underlying reasons behind their strong presence in the P2L2 Project. Troyas has high hopes for the future of the P2L2 project. He says that the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, where Ariane Group is located, already has a very supportive policy and this makes a great starting point for further cooperation with other regions that are participating in the P2L2 project. In the course of the study visits, Troyas says that representatives of each region have already observed a lot of commonalities in the way each other region promotes innovation. He strongly believes that the awareness of this common ground increases their confidence that they can work well together. Troyas expects that from the P2L2 project, the participating regions will come together and create a concrete action that will involve industrial research laboratories that will benefit the general population.
Piotr Grzybowski PILC / Podkarpackie Region, Poland Piotr Grzybowski is from the PILC (Polish Intelligent Logic Controllers) one of the project stakeholders in the Podkarpackie Region. His company is strongly involved in embedded systems. He was present at the study visit to Bordeaux to learn of the state of the art of technology in the region, specifically in terms of aviation, aerospace and aeronautics. To learn more visit or contact the P2L2 project lead partner. Name: Tanja Woronowicz Tel.: worono@uni-bremen.de Organization: TZI-Innovation Capability Center, University of Bremen
