In the 1990s and early 2000s, we shifted focus to Hanford cleanup by Peggy McCullough Bechtel safely demolishing surplus defense production reactors and removing contaminated soils away from the Columbia River corridor. Today, our mission centers on completing a Vitrification Plant to safely treat Hanford s underground radioactive and chemical tank waste to protect the Columbia River. Throughout 2017, our team made significant progress towards preparing the 65-acre Vitrification Plant to begin treating low-activity tank waste as soon as Much of the work this year concentrated on Low-Activity Waste vitrification facility construction, which we are on pace to complete next summer. Our workforce installed and assembled all major processing equipment and completed major steel, piping, electrical, and HVAC infrastructure. We also largely completed construction for an adjacent Analytical Laboratory. We also furthered the startup and testing phase for completed Vitrification Plant utilities systems that provide electrical power, air, water, and steam communication and control systems. As engineers and construction crews finish portions of the utilities they are transferring systems to the startup phase. During startup, we verify systems are complete, tested and in safe and working order. After the startup phase, systems then enter a commissioning phase to ensure they are calibrated, maintained, integrated and ready to support the Vitrification Plant mission. Just as our workforce made progress in protecting the Columbia River, we also continued making the Tri-Cities and surrounding region a better place to live and work for everyone. Last year alone, we contributed more than $590,000 to local organizations such as United Way, March of Dimes, and Junior Achievement, and our employees gave their time to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programs at local universities, colleges and schools. We look forward to 2018 as we continue our mission to protect the Columbia River and being a part of the Tri-Cities community. 1 Tri-City Regional Chamber of Commerce

Register (and find more details) at For questions, contact Ashley Coronado at or ashley.coronado@tricityregionalchamber.com Presented by the Washington PTAC at the Tri-City Regional Chamber of Commerce By Rubén Peralta, Community Inclusion & Outreach Director The Community Inclusion and Outreach department continues to reach out to a diverse group of businesses and community organizations. We are garnering valuable information that will help us identify unmet business needs and refine our current programming or create new ones. Our approach will ensure the Chamber does not duplicate efforts undertaken by others or compete with member businesses and like-minded partners. Rather, we are hoping that reaching out to these organizations and businesses will lead to strong partnerships and collaborations that will help maintain a sharp focus on the most impactful investments. During the past month, our outreach efforts have included the following: Visits to our new members AWB Rural Jobs Summit Downtown Pasco Development Authority quarterly meeting Pasco High School Career Fair Building Bridges and Breaking Down Barriers (ACCESS Tri-Cities) Like many communities, our region is going through some exciting times fueled by economics, demographic and generational transitions. Here at the Tri-City Regional Chamber of Commerce, we see the human, industry, and business mix within our region as a pantry with ingredients aplenty. We also believe our region has the right combination of Chefs (partners) to whip out an inclusive and innovative community that s resistant to future economic downturns. As Dr. Manuel Pastor and Dr. Chris Benner state on their Diversity and Inclusion for the 21st Century report, Business thrives when community and connections are part of the region s DNA when no skill goes untapped, no dream goes unrealized, and no resilience goes undeveloped. That is the ultimate goal and the Chamber will play a key role in its attainment. 9 Tri-City Regional Chamber of Commerce
