14 The main players in the space sector in France Ministries CNES implements the space policy of France under the authority of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research, responsible for Space and the Ministry of Defence. 14

15 CNES and its European partners A leading role in the construction of European space trough the European triangle : The Member Countries CNES leads a multinational programme to complement European programmes The European Space Agency CNES represents France within the European Space Agency, it is the largest contributor to the ESA budget. The European Union CNES is the driving force in the construction of Europe in space according to the guidelines adopted by the French Government. 15

17 Non tenure positions at CNES? What? Once a year CNES awards (to young French and foreign scientists) about a hundred research grants in the domain of : engineering sciences (orbital and space transport systems), sciences which make use of space equipment (sciences of the cosmos, Earth, and microgravity) who have an interest in space 30 of those grants are dedicated to post doctoral contracts allocated for research work at CNES or in a laboratory in France. The duration of a post doctoral contract is one year, renewable once. Gross monthly remuneration is about

18 Non tenure positions at CNES? How? Of course, for post doctoral contracts, candidates should hold a doctorate or equivalent by the start of the contract. Post doctoral contracts may possibly be co financed; if so, the placing of co sponsored contracts is dependent upon the prior signing of a co financing agreement with the partner and host laboratory. Contracts start, at the latest, in the December of the year in progress. 18

19 Non tenure positions at CNES? When? Application forms will be accepted until March 31 st at the latest. The applicants for a post doctoral grant will be invited for an interview in April/May. Juries selection will meet in late May. Dissemination of results will be done individually after the grant committee at the beginning of June. 19
