2 L OCCITANE PHILANTHROPY GIVING MEANING TO TOMORROW Since its creation in 1976, L OCCITANE has nurtured simple values: authenticity, respect and sensoriality. Inspired by our founder, Olivier Baussan, these values are also upheld by our employees, so they can share the company s success with others around the world. L OCCITANE has always supported initiatives that benefit society. In 2006, the company strengthened its commitments by creating its Foundation. With an annual budget of 1,000,000, it supports around 50 different projects. The Foundation has set itself the priority of fighting avoidable blindness its main field of action. Within this context, it created UNION FOR VISION 10by20 an international programme dedicated to sight that also involves many of the company s subsidiaries. The long-standing relationship between L OCCITANE and the Burkinabe women who produce shea butter matters greatly to the Foundation, which is committed to promoting women s leadership in Burkina Faso. Finally, the Foundation is also involved in initiatives to protect the natural heritage of Provence and the Mediterranean region. L OCCITANE is deeply committed to sight. In 1997, it introduced Braille labelling on most of its products, and in 2000, it sold the first fund-raising product in stores to raise money to help save sight. Through the UNION FOR VISION 10by20 programme, L OCCITANE supports the fight against avoidable blindness by funding NGO projects in several fields: Eye care Training & raising awareness Research & innovation SOLIDARITY PRODUCTS In 2017, 100% of profits* from the sale of our Solidarity Soap representing over 232,000 were donated to the UNION FOR VISION 10by20 programme. *Sales price in store minus taxes, transport and production costs. WHY 10 BY 20? million beneficiaries 2020 Objective: to provide eye care for 10 million people
3 AMONG OUR PROJECTS FRANCE Lion s Club: acquisition of a machine to enable an early screening and treatment for retinopathy of prematurity for Parisian suburb maternities. JAPON Japan Ophthalmologists Association: ophthalmology examination in medical check-up bus and organization of seminars to sensitize people around later adult blindness. CANADA CHINA Foundation Fighting Blindness: sensitization and diabetic retinopathy screening in rural and remote areas. SOUTH AFRICA CBM: innovative trainings for sub- Saharan Africa surgeons to reduce morbidity from cataract and glaucoma. INTERNATIONAL UNICEF: prevention of childhood blindness in the world by supporting programmes of Vitamin A supplementation, which is crucial for children s immune system. Thanks to a 3-year commitment and 3,000,000, L OCCITANE enables UNICEF to protect the sight of 1.7 million children by BENELUX Eyes for the World: screenings and distribution of self-adjustable glasses for undocumented people, refugees and homeless people. Orbis: a programme run in the poorest regions, focused on eye screening in schools, eye care, surgery and training. BURKINA FASO Light for the World: development of a specialty to train ophthalmologists and improvement of access to high-quality eye care in rural areas.
4 PROMOTING WOMEN S LEADERSHIP In the 1980s, on a trip to Burkina Faso, Olivier Baussan learned all about the benefits of shea butter. He went on to create a partnership with Burkinabe women, who play an important role in local economic and social life. success in secondary schools. For the academic year , the support to UNICEF s programme has enabled 450 young girls to attend school from sixth grade and be followed until ninth grade. SOLIDARITY PRODUCTS In 2017, 100% of profits* from the sale of our Solidarity Balm representing over 426,000 were donated to NGOs projects to promote women s leadership. Since 2006, the L OCCITANE Foundation has promoted the economic emancipation of Burkinabe women by supporting education, microcredit and training programmes. In 2016, it launched the L OCCITANE pour Elles programme, which provides funding and helps women entrepreneurs to develop their projects. The L OCCITANE Foundation is also committed for young girls education in Burkina Faso by supporting their access and * Sales price in store minus taxes, transport and production costs. PROTECTING NATURAL HERITAGE In 2017, 7 projects have been supported in Provence and the Mediterranean region. In particular, L OCCITANE has renewed its support to IUCN1 on producing the Red List of Mediterranean coastal ecosystems in order to continue gathering documentation and expertise related to various habitats and threat categories. L OCCITANE has committed again to the Verdon Regional Nature Park to plant hedgerows that have an agronomic and economic interest for farmers. L OCCITANE has also supported the EUSF2 to create the Artemisia Museum dedicated to harvest and to the cultivation of perfume, aromatic and medicinal plants from the Lure s Mountain, classified a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.
