1 MISSOULA PROJECTS These are Missoula City and County projects that received funding through local, state or federal government, or through private sources. All were administered by the Missoula Department of Grants and Community Programs.
2 Department of Grants and Community Programs Mission statement: Strategy statement: The Department of Grants and Community Programs improves the quality of life in Missoula. This mission is achieved by securing federal, state, county, city, and private funds and partnering with local non-profit organizations, community businesses, and local governmental departments to provide substantial support and services in the areas of Community Development, Public & Human Services, and Relationship Violence Services. Examples of Specific Focus Areas: Housing and Homelessness Substance Abuse Prevention Criminal Justice System Environmental Health and Infrastructure Development Relationship Violence Intervention and Prevention Developing Healthy and Resilient Youth Economic and Job Development This work is accomplished through an organizational structure comprised of three main Divisions representing areas with direct impact on community members and the local economy. Additional support is provided by administrative staff, a Unit offering assistance in grant funding acquisition, and special projects. 11 Relationship Violence Services Crime Victim Advocate Healthy Relationships Project Public Safety and Outreach Justice System Team Response (JUST Response) The Program provides free and confidential advocacy services to victims and survivors of: Relationship Violence Assault Sexual Assault/Rape/Incest Stalking Homicide Civil Advocates provide: Assistance with a Temporary Order of Protection (TOP) Danger Assessment Referrals to community resources such as shelter, medical, transportation, Child Protection Services Criminal Advocates provide: Support throughout the criminal case including at interviews with prosecutor, defense attorney, or law enforcement and in court Information on victims legal rights and protections Promotes prevention of sexual and relationship violence through community education and social marketing in Missoula and Mineral Counties Social Marketing campaign: Make Your Move End Sexual Violence Relationship and sexual violence prevention trainings for: Middle school students Bar staff Community forums Seeley Lake Outreach Project Direct mental health services School-based Power Up Speak Out Ambassador Project Projects in partnership with local organizations to further address relationship violence: Intimate Partner Offender Alerts Safety Audit Planet Kids safe visitation (YWCA) Domestic Violence Victim Impact Panel Darkness to Light Train-the-Trainer (child abuse prevention) External Review Panel Pro Bono Attorney Program Professional development trainings to improve services to survivors: Medical providers Faith leaders Educators Law enforcement Provides a holistic team response to relationship and sexual violence including the criminal justice system, medical providers, and community-based service providers. 16 Information, Research and Analysis (IRA) Unit and Special Projects Grant Acquisition Research Special Projects Research, identify, and access announcements regarding grant opportunities Communicate to appropriate staff and city/county departments about grant opportunities Assist departments with grant application development including project management, writing, editing, layout, design, formatting, and compilation of grant proposal components Coordinate informationsharing among grant application partners Conduct short-term studies using primary and secondary data and social science research methods Produce narrative, tabular, and graphical documents and visual aids for use in grant applications and reports Participate on working groups to assist with strategic program planning that utilizes research and analytical skills Serve as clearinghouse of city and county profile data consistently used in grant applications such as census, demographic, and related information Assist with Special Projects to local governmental departments, agencies, and programs in the areas of criminal justice, community based services, human services, housing, public facilities and infrastructure, arts and cultural affairs, transportation, and economic development.
