1 Municipal Awards and Recognition 2015 Bike Friendly Workplace Award Gold The Corporation of the City of Windsor received its 4 th Gold Award for being a bike friendly workplace. GTEC Municipal Service Delivery Excellence Award Honouree GTEC, Canada s internationally recognized forum for enabling and celebrating ICT leadership, innovation and impact in Canada s public sector, announced the distinguished Honourees of its highly-prized Distinction Awards. The annual awards recognize and celebrate ICT leadership, excellence and service delivery across municipal, provincial and federal governments. Following the receipt of 73 nominations and rigorous criteria-driven evaluation by leading public and private sector executives, the GTEC Judging Committee selected 37 honourees from government departments across the country. The 2015 honourees join more than 556 public sector teams and individual leaders who, since 1992, have received this distinction for excellence in public service ICT management and delivery. Up to 18 honourees will be awarded the coveted Distinction Medal at this special event. Congratulations to the City of Windsor s Business Process Centre of Excellence for being an honouree Gord Smith Healthy Workplace Diamond Go For Health Windsor-Essex and the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit have awarded The Corporation of the City of Windsor a Diamond Healthy Workplace Award. This is the 3 rd year in a row the Corporation has been awarded the Diamond level.

2 LEED s Silver Level Certification Fire Hall No. 7 The official grand opening of Fire Hall No. 7 was held on May 3, The facility is a state of the art LEED Silver facility, providing energy savings through the use of high performance building materials, radiant floor heating, low-e coating and argon filled windows, occupancy and daylight sensor controlled lighting, high efficiency exterior lighting, etc.. The modern facility offers private dormitory for 8 firefighters, captain quarters with a capacity of 3, a captain s office, separate men s and women s washrooms and locker rooms, an exercise room, a lounge, a kitchen and dining room, an outdoor patio, and parking for 15 vehicles. Ontario Municipal Social Services Association Local Municipal Champion Award Established in 1950, the Ontario Municipal Social Services Association (OMSSA) is a non-profit organization whose members are the Consolidated Municipal Service Managers (CMSMs) and District Social Services Administration Boards (DSSABs) across Ontario. Windsor acts, as do the other CMSMs and DSSABs, as a service system manager planning, managing and delivering human services including early learning and child care, employment and income supports, and housing and homelessness prevention programs. At the Association s annual Learning Symposium, OMSSA presented awards recognizing individuals and organizations who have made outstanding contributions to both OMSSA and their communities, recognizing their commitment to plan, manage and deliver quality human services in Ontario.

3 Recognizing the critical need for a robust and comprehensive IT system for housing, eight municipalities, (Windsor, London, Hamilton, Waterloo, Ottawa, Municipality of Chatham-Kent, Region of York and Halton Region) have formed a consortium under the name of the Housing Collaborative Initiative (HCI) to develop a custom IT solution for housing services managers. This initiative is the first of its kind. The development and maintenance of such a system is often cost prohibitive for a single entity. The implementation of this system will provide for a consolidated service manager system that will drive innovation and modernize operations. The system will improve customer service as it includes on-line wait list registrations and automated rent-geared-to-income calculations. The system will reduce costs and provide for more value added customized assistance Ontario Tourism Awards of Excellence - Tourism Marketing Partnership Award Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island A unique partnership between the Art Gallery of Windsor, Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island and the Windsor Endowment for the Arts culminated in a major art exhibition, "Possible Futures: What is to be Done? The 2014 Windsor-Essex Triennial of Contemporary Art", which took place at the Art Gallery of Windsor and four additional venues throughout the region. TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence Award ~ Adventure Bay Family Water Park The TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence award honours hospitality businesses that consistently achieve outstanding traveller reviews on TripAdvisor. To qualify for a Certificate of Excellence, a hospitality business must: Maintain an overall TripAdvisor rating of at least four out of five Have a minimum number of reviews Have been listed on TripAdvisor for at least twelve months A property s popularity ranking on TripAdvisor is also a factor

4 World Water Park Association (WWPA) Wave Review Awards The City of Windsor is delighted to announce that Adventure Bay Family Water Park Presented by WFCU has won awards for Best Billboard and Best Website (100, ,000 attendance category) from the World Waterpark Association (WWA) in their 2015 Wave Review Awards. In the billboard category, Adventure Bay s winning entry was a roadside billboard, posted in multiple high-profile locations in Windsor and Detroit, one of six designs displayed throughout the community. The winning design features two young boys in a splash of water and the tag line, Water you doing? In the website category, the park s official site, was the winner. Highlights of the site include 360-degree virtual tours of the park interior, photo galleries and scrolling home page banners highlighting timely information throughout the year, as well as a clearly arranged selection of information covering everything a potential visitor might want to know when planning a visit. In addition to these two awards, Adventure Bay also received recognition from WWA this year through a full-length feature article in the September issue of World Waterpark: The Official Magazine of the World Waterpark Association.

5 2014 AMCTO s E.A. Danby Certificate of Merit The Corporation of the City of Windsor was the recipient of AMCTO s E.A. Danby Certificate of Merit for 2014 in the category of Municipal Administration for its Business Process Centre of Excellence. This is the second year in a row the Corporation has been awarded Diamond. MISA s Excellence in Municipal Systems Award To promote the exchange of ideas and give recognition to IT best practices, Municipal Information Systems Association (MISA) solicited submissions for awards. The Corporation of the City of Windsor was the recipient of two 2014 Excellence in Municipal Systems Awards: i. The Site Plan Control Process Optimization using AMANDA project; and ii. The Business Process Centre of Excellence (BP-CoE) Transformation initiative. The Site Plan Control Process Optimization using AMANDA project resulted in a cross functional automated workflow process in the Amanda system that helps manage the steps of site plan applications through to their approval. The Business Process Centre of Excellence (BP-CoE) Transformation initiative included a reallocation of resources and knowledge from the former Office of Continuous

6 Improvement into a division of the Information Technology department called the Business Process Centre of Excellence. This division helps lead the Corporation through changes in people, process, and technology in order to achieve improvement in service efficiencies, quality, and customer service, and the realization of budget savings and/or revenues. In addition, it provides a centralized corporate knowledgebase and educational centre to support staff for opportune change management initiatives. Community Partnership Engagement Award The Multicultural Council (MCC) of Windsor and Essex County celebrated 40 years of service to the community this year. In honour of this service, they recognized various community partners who have contributed to their success and longevity and Windsor Public Library (WPL) is one of the organizations to be recognized. Their mission is to promote a harmonious society which is multi-racial and multi-ethnic and WPL and the MCC have partnered on numerous projects and initiatives such as Carrousel by the River, literacy events, newcomer programs and public education programs. URISA Ontario s 2014 Best Application Cultural Mapping Project With the series of MappMyCity applications, The Corporation of the City of Windsor is increasing citizen engagement, reducing the volume of public inquiries, keeping executives involved and updated, and improving operation efficiencies. In early 2014 at an annual Urban Regional Information Systems Association (URSIA) conference at the University of Guelph, the Geomatics Division was recognized for this map app.

7 Walter Hadden Community Award The Rotary Club of 1918 honoured the Windsor Public Library Adult Literacy Program with the Walter Hadden Community Award last March. March is Literacy Month in the world of Rotary International, and various clubs honour community-oriented literacy projects and organizations. Rotary 1918 recognized the program for the volunteer-driven component which assists members of the community achieve personal goals through literacy. Literacy is essential to everyday life, at home, at work, at school and in the community. Library staff, together with volunteers, provide learners with reading, writing, numeracy and selfmanagement skills and recently we have become involved in programming focused on deaf literacy. This Community Literacy Award certainly tells our staff and volunteers that the services they provide are much needed Ontario Association of Art Galleries Award The AGW brings home three awards this year including the Key Partnership Award which goes to the City of Windsor. Nominated by the AGW for its work to develop the Gallery s 49-year lease agreement of 2013, the Key Partnership Award is one of the most important ones offered and the award brings provincial recognition to the work we have done together as a Community, as a City and as an Art Gallery.

8 2013 Bike Friendly Workplace Award Gold The Corporation of the City of Windsor received its 2 nd Gold Award for being a bike friendly workplace. BOMA BESt Level 1 Certificate Windsor Justice Facility The Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) of Canada offers the BOMA BESt (Building Environmental Standards) Program. BOMA BESt is a voluntary, national program designed to assess environmental performance and management of existing buildings, and provide a framework for green building management and building operations and management. The Facility Operations division of The Corporation of the City of Windsor received a BOMA BESt Level 1 Certificate of Achievement in recognition for excellence in energy and environmental management and operational performance at the Windsor Justice Facility. The facility is located at 150 Goyeau Street and 200 Chatham Street East, and is occupied by the Windsor Police Services and the Ontario Court of Justice respectively. CWWA s 2013 Utility Excellence Award for Innovative Technologies - Combined Sewer Overflow Retention Treatment Basin This award highlights the remarkable work Canadian Water and Wastewater Association (CWWA) members are undertaking and accomplishing in their communities. Water and wastewater utilities perform a vital service, protecting both human health and the environment, and these awards offer peer recognition of these efforts. 9 CEO s 2013 Award of Excellence Windsor Riverfront Retention Treatment Basin (RTB) Project Stantec Consulting Inc., the consultant for the RTB project, submitted an application to the Consulting Engineers of Ontario (CEO). The RTB project received the top honour for the most outstanding project with respect to firms with 351+ employees. The Windsor Riverfront Retention Treatment Basin (RTB) and Stantec Consulting Inc. s design team received the Award of Excellence. Receiving this award is a prestigious honour for The Corporation of the City of Windsor, Stantec Consulting Inc. and all levels of government for the involvement on the Retention Treatment Basin and their commitment to addressing significant environmental concerns with combined sewer overflows Gord Smith Healthy Workplace Award Diamond The Corporation of the City of Windsor's Workplace Wellness Program was recognized with a Gord Smith Healthy Workplace Diamond Award for their commitment to the health and well-being of their employees, retirees, and family members, through the provision of an organized workplace wellness program. This is no small feat, as to win a Diamond Award the workplace must have won three consecutive Platinum Awards (highest award level for a comprehensive workplace wellness program) New Beginnings Award for Jobs for Youth Summer Employment Program The Human Resources Department received, on behalf of The Corporation of the City of Windsor, an employer appreciation award for dedication and continued support of the New Beginnings Summer Jobs for Youth Program. The New Beginnings program connects employers in need of summer help with enthusiastic youth aged 15 to 18 years of age, who are eager to obtain valuable work experience. The New Beginnings Program is a component of the Youth Employment Strategy that helps youth from underserved communities by giving them tools to help them succeed, including job readiness training, paid employment placements from July to August, and postemployment support which allows them to obtain the work experience, knowledge, skills and information required to prepare for and participate in the world of work.

10 OPHEA s 2013 Award for Outstanding Contribution The OPHEA Award for Outstanding Contribution recognized The Corporation of the City of Windsor for their exemplary contribution to the lives of children and youth in the areas of health and physical education, health and physical activity promotion, advocacy, and community development. Parks and Recreation Ontario s 2013 Excellence in Design Award Ojibway Nature Centre This Parks and Recreation Ontario award is presented for excellence in design of completed recreation and/or park facilities intended for public use. Parks and Recreation Ontario recognized The Corporation of the City of Windsor for its Ojibway Nature Centre which demonstrated high standards of planning, design, community involvement, operation and maintenance, quality of aesthetics, usability, accessibility and versatility. The facility has demonstrated outstanding innovation which has made a significant impact in the parks and recreation field.

11 2012 Bike Friendly Workplace Award Gold The Corporation of the City of Windsor was awarded its 1 st Gold Award for being a bike friendly workplace Community Workplace Champion Award The Corporation of the City of Windsor was the recipient of the 2012 Community Workplace Champion Award, which recognizes the cumulative efforts of the Corporation s combined workplace campaign, and the contribution of municipal employees to the community which we serve, through United Way donations I Believe in My Community Award Community Workplace Champions Annually, the I Believe in My Community Award is given to organizations and individuals who achieve outstanding results in their United Way Campaigns. The Corporation of the City of Windsor was awarded the Community Workplace Champions Award (250+ Employees) which recognizes public and private sector businesses and organizations that consistently demonstrate their commitment to United Way.

12 LEED s Silver Level Certification - Ojibway Nature Centre The Ojibway Nature Centre, which opened Spring of 2011, was awarded the Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) Silver Level of Certification on February 13, The structure was built with locally sourced materials such as Ontario white cedar, and granite blocks that were recycled from the Ambassador Bridge. OMSSA 2012 Local Municipal Championship Award Employment and Social Services was honoured with this award for initiatives in the areas of Ontario Works and Job Placement. Working Towards Wellness Healthy Workplace Award Platinum For the second year in a row, The Corporation of the City of Windsor's Workplace Wellness Program was recognized with a Platinum Award for their commitment to the health and well-being of their employees, retirees, and family members, through the provision of an organized workplace wellness program.

13 2011 AIRS Certification 211/311 Call Centre The Call Centre at The Corporation of the City of Windsor achieved full certification required for permanent delivery of 211 Call Centre services for Southwestern Ontario Annual Community-Campus Partnerships for Health Award Community-University Partnership for Development, Research and Training This award recognizes exemplary partnerships between communities and higher educational institutions that build on each other s strengths to improve higher education, civic engagement and the overall health of communities. The award highlights the power and potential of community-campus partnerships as a strategy for social justice. It honours partnerships that are striving to achieve the systems and policy changes needed to overcome the root causes of health, social and economic inequalities. Life Saving Society s Darnell Challenge Cup The Darnell Challenge Cup recognizes the drowning prevention commitment of the Society s affiliate members and institutions that mobilize staff and volunteers to raise funds for Water Smart. The Corporation of the City of Windsor s Aquatics Division was recognized for their efforts in raising funds through a rescue tube relay for Water Smart Campaign Robert Pulleybank Municipal Achievement Award The annual Conservation Awards honour and recognize those organizations and individuals who have made outstanding contributions toward improving the natural environment and history and ultimately the health and quality of life in the Essex Region.This award was presented to The Corporation of the City of Windsor by ERCA for environmental conservation efforts.

14 Share the Road Coalition Bike Friendly Award Bronze The Corporation of the City of Windsor was recognized by the Share the Road Coalition for its long-term efforts to develop and maintain an extensive network of cycling facilities. Top 7 Intelligent Communities In conjunction with the County of Essex and the Centre for Smart Community Innovation of the University of Windsor, our area was recognized as one of the Top 7 intelligent communities worldwide. Windsor Construction Association Awards for: Award of Distinction Commercial Other: 400 City Hall Square Award of Distinction - Heavy Construction - Civil: McHugh Street Bridge Extension and Pedestrian Tunnel Award of Distinction - Heavy Construction - Roads and Highways: Howard Avenue at CPR Grade Crossing Award of Excellence Landscape Treatment: Bert Weeks Memorial Gardens Award of Excellence - Heavy Construction Roads and Highways: McDougall Road from Giles to Erie Award of Merit - Heavy Construction - Civil: Huron Church Road Pedestrian Overpass Award of Merit Environmental: Lou Romano Water Reclamation Plant The Corporation of the City of Windsor celebrates these projects with the engineers, architects, contractors and sub-contractors who completed these projects.

15 Working Towards Wellness and Healthy Workplace Award Platinum The Corporation of the City of Windsor's Workplace Wellness Program was recognized with a Platinum Award for their commitment to the health and well-being of their employees, retirees, and family members, through the provision of an organized workplace wellness program.

16 2010 AMCTO s E. A. Danby Award The E.A. Danby Award recognizes spirit of vision, and innovation in Ontario municipalities. This award is presented annually to a municipality that demonstrates, through a specific initiative, a willingness to employ innovative techniques and is able to demonstrate the tangible results of those efforts as they impact on the efficiency and effectiveness of the municipal corporation. The Corporation of the City of Windsor's Employee Mentoring Program (Share the Experience) submission demonstrated "a willingness to employ innovative techniques" and create "tangible results of those efforts" in the corporate staff mentoring program. A two-time winner, the Corporation also won this award in 2006 for the SimpliCity Program, a customer service initiative Community Living Essex County Community Inclusion Award The Community Inclusion Award recognizes individuals or groups in Essex County who have made a significant contribution towards the development of a welcoming and accessible community. The Corporation of the City of Windsor s Housing Services Department earned this award for its work done through the Canada Ontario Affordable Housing Program to support the housing needs of persons with intellectual disabilities CTAC Innovation Award The Corporation of the City of Windsor s Information Technology Department was presented with this award for designing and implementing innovative government solutions using AMANDA.

17 LAS Best in Class Designation - Municipal Energy Performance Benchmarking Project Mackenzie Hall Mackenzie Hall has been recognized with Best in Class status in Arts & Culture category of the Municipal Energy Performance Benchmarking Project conducted by Local Authority Services (LAS) in partnership with Marbek Consultants. Data from 393 municipal facilities across Ontario was compiled and analyzed over two years, and LAS identified the top performing facility in each of 12 categories. Working Towards Wellness Healthy Workplace Award Gold In celebration of Canada s Healthy Workplace Month (October 1-31, 2010), Go For Health Windsor-Essex and the Windsor-Essex County Health United hosted the 9 th Annual Working Towards Wellness Healthy Workplace Awards and 5 th Annual Bike Friendly Workplace Awards. The Corporation of the City of Windsor s Workplace Wellness Program was recognized with a gold award for their commitment to the health and well-being of their employees, retirees and family members through the provision of an organized workplace wellness program.

18 2009 CAMA s Award of Excellence for Municipal Workplace Literacy & Learning Achievements The Corporation of the City of Windsor s Human Resources Department and Information Technology Department, along with a private partner esolutionsgroup Ltd. of Conestoga Rovers & Associates, prepared a joint award submission to the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators (CAMA) pertaining to the Corporation's e- learning program. In June of 2009, the City was presented with the Award of Excellence for Municipal Workplace Literacy & Learning Achievements in the category of "Recognition of Workplace e-learning Initiatives". The success of the corporate e- learning initiative is credited to numerous individuals and partners who have been involved in its inception, development and ongoing maintenance. GTEC Information Technology Operations Award Gold Medal To promote the exchange of ideas and give recognition to best IT practices, GTEC solicits submissions for awards in 17 categories at the Federal, Provincial and Municipal Levels. Awarded gold for the successful completion of the Mainframe Migration Project, the project was a corporate initiative to migrate 51 applications and their historical information from the obsolete main frame on the City s various Enterprise Management Systems.

19 Play Works Ontario s Gold Youth Friendly Community Designation The Corporation of the City of Windsor was awarded the prestigious Gold Youth Friendly Community designation by Play Works Ontario. The designation recognizes Windsor as a community that supports opportunities for growth of youth ages 13 to 19 through play. The Corporation's submission illustrated the benefits of participation in activities geared to growth and development for our local teens through recreation, sport, leisure, arts, drama, dance, civic engagement, youth activism, volunteerism, social clubs and youth leadership. WEST Journey Towards Success Community Partnership Award This award was created by the Women s Enterprise Skills Training of Windsor Inc. (WEST) to recognize a local employer that demonstrates its belief in the WEST mission by helping WEST program participants achieve great personal and professional goals during their challenging journey towards success. The Corporation of the City of Windsor was recognized by WEST as an exceptional community partner for acting as a placement site host since Working Towards Wellness Healthy Workplace Awards Silver The Working Toward Wellness Program provides local workplaces with health and wellness solutions that are a win-win for everyone involved the community at large, the workplace, employees, retirees and their families. Through a joint partnership of the Windsor Essex County Health Unit and Health Action Windsor-Essex, the Working Towards Wellness Program seeks to promote employee health and help create and support healthy workplace environments.
