3 20 MEMBER STATES AND GROWING ESA has 20 Member States: 17 states of the EU (AT, BE, CZ, DE, DK, ES, FI, FR, IT, GR, IE, LU, NL, PT, Po, RO, SE, UK) plus Norway and Switzerland. Eight other EU states have Cooperation Agreements with ESA: Estonia, Slovenia, Hungary, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania and the Slovak Republic. Bulgaria and Malta are negotiating Cooperation Agreements. Canada takes part in some programmes under a Cooperation Agreement.

16 Our Mission The main mission of the ESA Technology Transfer Programme (TTP) is to facilitate the use of space technology, systems and applications for non-space use to further demonstrate the benefit of the European Space Programme to the European citizens and to strengthen the competitiveness of European Industry. The Technology Transfer Programme Office (TTPO) is responsible for defining the overall approach and strategy for the transfer of space technologies and systems, including the incubation of start up companies and its funding. The TTPO has transferred 280 technology since the programmed start and is supporting direct around 60 new start-ups a year in 7 ESA BICs. The TTPO has also initiated as a Limited Partner the Open Sky Technology Fund, a 100 Mio. Venture Fund, which invests in start-ups using Space technology.
