3 WELCOME Let s pause and celebrate. Celebrate the city we live in and celebrate the people that strive to make it so amazing. We all know there are people amongst us that just go that extra mile to make a difference. They drive a team to achieve outstanding performance and put in that extra effort to achieve inspiring results. Join us in acknowledging those people. Now in its second year, the People Property Awards, is becoming a major event in the calendar for Auckland. These awards celebrate those people in property who have made a significant impact on us all. After all, it s our industry that is driving many outcomes that will leave a lasting legacy in this city, for many decades to come. It really is a significant responsibility for the industry so please take part in the journey with us. The awards are being held in the evening on Friday 27 October There are 9 categories in total, including: Young Achiever of the Year, Urban Design, Best Team, Property Professional of the Year, Women in Property Award, Outstanding Leadership, Long Service, Judges Choice and the Supreme Award. 4 ABOUT US Property Council is a member-led, not-for-profit organisation offering a collective voice for the commercial property industry. Our members include the owners, investors, managers and developers of office, retail, industrial and residential property; as well as planners, policy makers, engineers, lawyers, architects and other property professionals. Our broad membership of more than 700 companies requires us to consider all aspects of the built environment, and we promote sound policies and requirements which benefit New Zealand as a whole. We advocate for quality urban growth that supports strong national and local economies. We strive to serve our members through research, policy development, advocacy, education and networking event programmes nationally and regionally, raising the industry profile as we go. 5 THE AWARDS Following the successful launch of our very first Auckland Property People Awards in 2016, we are pleased to bring back the awards in 2017, aligned with our Waikato, Wellington and Southern Awards. These People Awards are all about celebrating the people in property; recognising excellence in leadership and innovation in the Auckland property industry whilst celebrating outstanding contributions to the industry and economy. The Awards are open to both members and non-members of the Property Council who are based in the Auckland region. The Judging Panel will assemble to assess the entries after the close of submissions at 5.00pm on the 4th September The Panel consists of an extremely high calibre group of Auckland property professionals who are from a range of facets of the property industry providing reputability and ensuring equality in the judging process. 7 THE JUDGES We are delighted to confirm the following highly-respected leaders as our judges: ALAINA BEATTIE Property Consultant, Cushman & Wakefield New Zealand Alaina is an accomplished Asset Manager now acting as Property Consultant for Cushman & Wakefield New Zealand where she oversees a diversified range of national commercial, retail and industrial property requirements. Her strength lies in combining excellent leadership and social skills to drive projects and build new business opportunities. She is a tenacious team leader and negotiator with extensive ability to build fruitful collaborations, liaise, and reach win-win solutions for all parties involved. In order to deliver portfolio performance, maintaining strong relationships with wide and varied internal and external business partners including tenants and service providers and lead and manage multiple teams of property professionals is essential. Alaina has a flair for both innovative and systemic thinking, backed with outstanding knowledge of and expertise in the property industry. She was previously with AMP Capital Property Portfolio as Asset Manager for NZ portfolio where she managed a diversified portfolio of commercial, retail, and industrial national investment properties. GRAEME BIRKHEAD Director, Graeme Birkhead Consulting Graeme is an experienced construction and property development consultant, with over 30 years experience in the NZ market. He is currently advising both contractors and clients on construction methodology, business development, procurement, project direction and property development. Graeme has a strong network of consultants, contractors and clients across many sectors of NZ construction and property markets and knows the Auckland Market and its players extremely well. He has specialist experience in the social, affordable and private housing markets, education buildings, and correctional facilities along with traditional commercial and industrial markets. 8 THE JUDGES ANDREW EVANS Independent Director Andrew is a registered valuer with more than 30 years experience in commercial real estate and asset management, previously holding executive positions in listed and unlisted real estate investment businesses. Andrew is an Independent Director of Vital Healthcare Management Limited, Argosy Property Limited, Holmes Group Limited, Holmes GP Fire Limited, Trust Investments Management Limited, Hughes and Cossar Group Holdings Limited and Westbrooke Capital Partners Limited. In addition, he is a past National President of the Property Council of New Zealand, a Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Directors, a Fellow of the Property Institute of New Zealand, a government appointee to the Land Valuation Tribunal (Waikato No.1) and is a trustee of the Marist Brothers Rugby Charitable Trust. Andrew gained a Bachelor of Business Studies and Master of Business Administration (with distinction) degrees from Massey University and a Graduate Diploma in Finance from The University of Auckland. RICHARD HARRIS Principal, Jasmax Richard has been a Principal and Director of architecture firm Jasmax since His early career included experience in private practices, a development company and Auckland City Council. A registered architect and Fellow of the NZIA, Richard has taken the lead architectural role in many of Auckland s most prominent architectural projects. He has led the Jasmax teams on AUT University s campus redevelopment and master planning over the last 25 years. He also led the team on the University of Auckland s Grafton Campus Redevelopment and was the Jasmax principal in charge of the Auckland City Hospital, Sylvia Park and Eden Park projects. He also led the refurbishments to the Auckland Town Hall and the Civic Theatre. Richard s projects have won numerous architectural and property industry awards. Richard is a Board member of the Committee for Auckland and is a former President of the New Zealand Institute of Architects, a former chairman of the Architects Education and Registration Board and chaired the Government s Urban Task Force. 6

10 GREENSCENENZ SHEREE COONEY MEMORIAL YOUNG ACHIEVER OF THE YEAR AWARD This Award is directed to an individual, aged under 35 or who has been in the industry for less than five years, who has demonstrated outstanding performance in property by their contribution to their organisation and/or the property industry. Nominees can be from any sector within the property industry. The Award winner will have demonstrated a successful contribution to a field of endeavour of social or economic importance related to property, and additionally have demonstrated exceptional skills, dedication, commitment and the promise of future industry leadership. CRITERIA Section Criteria Weighting 1 Provide a statement of the nominees academic and/or professional history, demonstrating their passion in the 15% industry and display of excellence. 2 Explain how the nominee has contributed to their organisation and/or the property industry, detailing specific achievements, projects, challenges faced and 35% overcome. 3 Comment on the nominee s future goals and objectives; how is this nominee demonstrating innovation, excellence 40% and leadership as they look to the future 4 Additional supporting evidence, including any specialist areas of practice 10% Maximum word count 2000 words. 8
11 IGNITE URBAN DESIGN AWARD This Award is directed to an individual or team that have through their engagement, increased the quality of the urban fabric. Through their endeavours, this team or individual have enhanced urban design outcomes for the benefit of the Auckland community, encouraging a vision that is an inspiration to the wider property industry. The urban design outcomes could have been evident in a particular project, leading or managing a team or organisation, or by providing informed strategic direction. CRITERIA Section Criteria Weighting 1 Provide an outline of what the nominee has undertaken to better the region s urban fabric, including why this 20% particular project or action is unique and innovative 2 Comment on how the nominee has demonstrated best practice by taking into consideration the seven C s : context, character, choice, connections, creativity, 20% custodianship and collaboration 3 Explain why the nominee s actions have benefited or enhanced the wider community, with consideration for the community s current challenges. Include comments of 30% how this engagement has contributed to the sustainable growth of the local environment. 4 Comment on how the nominee s actions are inspirational to the industry and how the outcome will have a continued effect on the industry as a whole 20% 5 Additional supporting evidence of relevance to the award 10% Maximum word count 2000 words. 9
12 WSP BEST TEAM AWARD This Award is directed to a group of people who, working together as a team, have achieved outstanding results. Their collective strength is created through their behaviours as a team, incorporating the habits of communication, respect, collaboration, problem solving and common goal. The team is outstanding in terms of innovation and inspiration, and have positively influenced the future of the property industry. Teams who enter this category can include multiorganisation project teams, internal work teams, or any other collaborative team which is required to work together to achieve desired outcome. CRITERIA Section Criteria Weighting 1 Provide an overview of the team detailing the participants areas of expertise/interest, and the groups 15% desired outcomes or achievements 2 Explain why this team has excelled, including contributing factors such as management style, innovation, shared 40% goals etc 3 Comment on what challenges this group face as a team and how these challenges are overcome to ensure 35% positive outcomes 4 Additional supporting evidence of relevance to the award 10% Maximum word count 2000 words. 10
13 JLL PROPERTY PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEAR AWARD This Award is directed to an individual who has demonstrated leadership and vision that helped lead to a positive change in the property industry of either property practitioners or the community at large. The Award winner will have demonstrated commitment to the Auckland property industry; helping to support growth and development in the region. Their positive contribution will have enabled projects to operate in an efficient manner, making the entire process easier. The Award winner goes the extra mile and is considered a doer in the industry. Entries may relate to any area of property practice, for example: Architecture and design Building surveying Property development including infrastructure Property engineering Property financing Property law Property management Property valuation Quantity surveying Real estate CRITERIA Section Criteria Weighting 1 Provide details of the area of expertise or project(s) supported by this individual with particular focus on their 15% leadership and vision 2 Explain the extent of the contribution showing how this person has contributed to change in the property industry in the interests of either property practitioners 40% or the community at large 3 Comment on the benefits this contribution has produced for the wider industry and/or community 35% 4 Additional supporting evidence of relevance to the award 10% Maximum word count 2000 words. 11
14 RESENE WOMEN IN PROPERTY AWARD Property Council New Zealand supports diversity in the industry. This award is directed to a female within the Auckland property industry who has achieved outstanding performance by their contribution to their organisation and/or the property industry. The award winner will have demonstrated a successful contribution to a particular field of endeavour of social or economic importance related to property, and additionally have demonstrated exceptional skills, dedication, commitment and the promise of continued leadership. These attributes and achievements make them a role model to other women in the industry and respected by all industry peers. CRITERIA Section Criteria Weighting 1 Provide a statement of the nominees academic and/or professional history, demonstrating their passion in the 15% industry and display of excellence. 2 Explain how the nominee has contributed to their organisation and/or the property industry, detailing specific 35% achievements, projects, challenges faced and overcome. 3 Comment on the nominee s future goals and objectives; how is this nominee demonstrating innovation, excellence 40% and leadership as they look to the future 4 Additional supporting evidence, including any specialist areas of practice 10% Maximum word count 2000 words. 12
15 RIDER LEVETT BUCKNALL OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP AWARD This individual, working in either the public or private sector, has demonstrated outstanding leadership to drive progress within the Auckland region. Their contribution promotes growth and direction in the Auckland property industry. Their leadership qualities could have been evident in a particular project, leading and managing a team or organisation, or providing strategic direction. The award winner is inspirational, leads by example and consistently strives for success as a team. CRITERIA Section Criteria Weighting 1 Explain how the individual has driving change within the organisation, shown strength in their choices and demonstrated they re effective not only in leading a team, 30% but managing people and projects at the highest level 2 Provide details of how the individual is committed to the property industry, and how they have demonstrated outstanding leadership to drive progress and positive 30% change in the community and property industry 3 Provide evidence of inspirational and strategic leadership how has the nominee lead positive changes, demonstrated leadership or strategic direction in a 30% manner that influences not only their organisation but benefits the entire industry 4 Additional supporting evidence of relevance to the award 10% Maximum word count 2000 words. 13
16 BSA LAW LONG SERVICE AWARD This individual, working within the greater Auckland property sector, has demonstrated exceptional and a long-term contribution to the Auckland region both to the growth of the built environment and to the wider community. Awarded to an individual who has been in the property industry for 20+ years, this professional has achieved outstanding performance in property during their professional career by their contribution to their organisation and/or the property industry and as a result, the local economy. The Award winner will have demonstrated a successful contribution to a particular field of endeavour of social or economic importance related to property, and additionally have demonstrated exceptional skills, dedication, commitment, and leadership that is inspiring to those within the industry. The Auckland Executive will decide who is to receive this Award. Note: This category is not open to submissions. KIWI PROPERTY JUDGES CHOICE AWARD The recipient for this Award is decided by the judging panel and is presented to a deserving nominee mentioned in the other categories. The recipient of this award may not fit the criteria of other categories but deserves to be recognised for their outstanding contribution tothe Auckland property industry. This Award can be presented to a team or individual. Note: This category is not open to submissions. GREENSTONE GROUP, SUPREME AWARD The recipient of this Award is decided by the judging panel and is presented to a winner in a previous category. The winner of this category is deemed by the judging panel to be the standout recipient. Note: This category is not open to submissions. 14

DISQUALIFICATION Property Council New Zealand reserves the right to disqualify an entry, at any time during the process if the Judging Panel determines that: The entry or entrant breaches or otherwise fails to meet or observe any of the above stated eligibility or contest requirements, or False or misleading information has been intentionally provided. ENTRANT ELIGIBILITY Nominations and entries can be made by Property Council members and non-members. Property Council reserves the right to decline to make an Award or present a certificate in any particular category. IMAGES Colour images must be provided on USB or via Dropbox and be suitable for large screen audio visual and print purposes. All images supplied should be of professional quality and must be high resolution (over 1000 pixels), clean (no photographer s credits or watermarks) colour images. Please supply a minimum of four and a maximum of eight high resolution images in jpg or tiff format files. JUDGING CRITERIA Submissions will be judged on the specific criteria outlined under each award category. Failure to follow these criteria may result in your nomination being rejected. The judges decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
