Education Pathways: This is an oral Māori language educational pathway that guarantees to produce in one academic year of 34 weeks, students who are competent in te Reo Māori and are able to understand, to speak, to communicate with other speakers in Māori on any or most topics. The major emphases are to develop each student s oral skills and competency in te Reo Māori. To be able to think, to speak, to question, to reason, to answer confidently in Māori and to sustain the oral delivery of prepared seminars exclusively in te Reo Māori for up to an hour, followed by questions, answers and discussion. This course is also an essential preparation for those students who are aiming to participate confidently in Tikanga Māori and Kawa Māori protocols on their marae and on formal, cultural, hapu, iwi occasions.

25 Personal Growth and Enhancement: For University graduates who have completed a variety of bachelor degrees but who are still looking to reclaim their identity as Māori by becoming competent and knowledgeable in oral, communicative Māori language, tikanga Māori and Māori knowledge. These have included science graduates, arts graduates, law graduates, teachers, policemen and policewomen, army, navy and air force personnel and even a District Court judge. Students may use this Rumaki Reo programme as a bridging pathway into tertiary qualifications such as Te Wānanga Takiura s Bachelor of Teaching Kura Kaupapa Māori Degree Graduates may add the outcomes of this Rumaki Reo programme to their current degrees to include a strong and confident dimension in speaking and communicating competently in Māori. Entry Requirements There are no academic requirements for entry but you will have to demonstrate a passion for wanting to learn te Reo. Strong attendance is absolutely critical. Anything below 80% will not be acceptable. It must be your principal focus for the year allowing no other issues to infiltrate or to distract you. Students who cannot adhere to this commitment and dedication should not enrol at Te Wānanga Takiura. Contact Tawhiri Williams PO Box Phone: Fax: ttrw@twt.ac.nz Website: Study Location Level Mt Albert Road Royal Oak Auckland Page 23 Study Date Wednesday 1st February to Friday 10th November 2017 There is no mid-year intake.
