6 SIT s Journey to Date SIT launches 7 new degree programmes, bringing total to 43 programmes (27 OU-conferred, 5 joint degree and 11 SITconferred degree programmes) SIT launched 5 new degree programmes, enrolled over 4,000 students 2014 SIT Act gazetted in Parliament and launched 3 SIT degrees 2012 Committee on University Education Pathways Beyond 2015 (CUEP) recommended that SIT should become Singapore s new AU to meet CPR of 40% 2010 Enrolled first 500 students in 10 degrees with 5 OU partners 2009 SIT established to offer degrees by Overseas Universities (OU) partners at the Polytechnics 6

9 THE ICT DEGREE PROGRAMME Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Information & Communications Technology (Software Engineering) / (Information Security) To train highly specialised professionals that can integrate seamlessly and contribute effectively to the Infocomm industry. Conferred by SIT, and not the overseas university partners These are majors, and not just specialisation. Done anytime during the student s candidature. 13

13 Overseas Exposure Programme (OEP) Student can go for an optional Overseas Exposure Programme where they will be exposed: i) The culture of the host country ii) Academic interactions with the local students iii) Familiarisation to the industry overseas We are exploring if we could do this programme with KOSEN where our students can participate in some activities with the local students taking the advanced courses. For example, an inter-disciplinary Hackathon on a topic related to IT, Mechnical and Electrical Systems Engineering, Environmental Systems Engineering or Chemistry and Material Engineering ICT students are all polytechnic diploma students who are pursuing a Bachalor s degree in Software Engineering or Information Security. All of them can develop software applications. 14
