4 Singapore Science and Engineering Fair (SSEF) & 10 Mar 2016 (Wed & Thu)* Open to all Sec Schs, JCs, IP Schs and CI students studying in Singapore aged as of 1 May 2016 during year of SSEF Projects from the following programmes may participate in the SSEF: SRP (Science Research Programme) NRP (Nanyang Research Programme) SMP (Science Mentorship Programme) Schools / Cluster Science / Engineering Projects Organised by MOE, A*STAR and Science Centre

8 Rules and Regulations Adhere strictly to Intel ISEF Rules and Guidelines Research done between 1 Jan Dec 2015 Projects must be investigative by nature Individual or team projects; maximum of 3 members for team project Continuation project will only be judged on work done from 1 Jan Dec 2015 (Continuation / Research Progression Projects Form 7 required) New rule: Only 1 project submission (team or individual) per student
9 Rules and Regulations Scientific fraud and misconduct are not condoned at any level of research or competition. Plagiarism, forgery, using other researchers work as one s own and fabrication of data will result in immediate disqualification. [Participants are reminded to include references for any materials cited in their project, including research plan, project summary, log book, report, poster, etc. References are also needed for images, graphs and tables. Any image/graph/table that is created by the participant must be clearly stated to avoid ambiguity of source.]

12 SSEF/Intel ISEF Forms SSEF/Intel ISEF forms serve to: ensure safe laboratory practices and adherence to regulations protect the rights and welfare of the student researcher(s), human participant(s), and protect the health and welfare of the vertebrate animal subject(s) Participants need to read the forms carefully before completing them: MM/DD/YY format for ALL dates; ambiguous cases could imply noncompliance with SSEF/Intel ISEF rules Need to take note whether forms should be completed BEFORE or AFTER research In the research plan, state very clearly which steps are carried out by student/s and which are carried out by qualified adults. If there are deviations to the original research plan, those changes must have been approved and be recorded in the project summary

23 Form (2) Qualified Scientist Projects dealing with vertebrate animals, PHBAs, DEA-controlled substances. Note: Date Format MM/DD/YY Prior to experimentation
24 Form (2) Qualified Scientist A Qualified Scientist should have earned a doctoral/professional degree in a scientific discipline that relates to the student s area of research. A PhD, MD or a master s degree with additional experience and expertise in the student s area of research is acceptable when approved by a Scientific Review Committee (SRC). The Qualified Scientist must be thoroughly familiar with local, state, and federal regulations that govern the student s area of research. The Qualified Scientist and the Adult Sponsor may be the same person, if that person is qualified as described above.

43 Submission of hard copies for SSEF/ATS Step 1 IN THE 1ST FOLDER Place the items below in one clear folder: One set of completed SSEF/ATS Entry Forms and SSEF Form 1, 1A, 1B, 1C (if necessary + photocopy) + additional forms where applicable One set of project documents containing the items below in a plastic sleeve - Cover page - Project abstract - Project report - 2-page summary
44 Step 2 Place the folder neatly into an envelope, with the assigned code stated on the envelope (top right corner), to be submitted to: Science Centre Singapore c/o Fair Director (SSEF 2016) 15 Science Centre Road Singapore Please submit your envelopes by 13 Jan 2016 (Wednesday). It is preferred if your school is able to compile all the envelopes and submit together. Please refer to SSEF website updates for any changes in submission requirements.

50 ATS Application Only individual category, no team category Individual applications can be submitted for team projects. Indicate interest for consideration in SSEF portal during registration All ATS participants are required to take part in SSEF.
51 ATS Judging Shortlisted ATS candidates who are SSEF winners will undergo at least two more rounds of selection before the winners emerge. The panel of judges consists of distinguished scientists from local and international universities, as well as A*STAR research institutes and a Nobel Laureate (in the final round).
