2 Region 5 Website We are pleased to announce that we have now launched a website for Region 5 of the SSSSO (UK). We had a number of aims and objectives in mind while creating this online site viz: To allow newcomers to the region / organisation to quickly and easily find information about the Sai centres in this region To provide current devotees with a quick reference point where they can find latest announcements for their centre/ group and to keep up to date with the activities happening around the region To aid communication between us all in the region We have endeavoured to keep the site simple and user friendly to ease navigation for all. Please note that each Sai centre/ group in Region 5 has their own page on this site (accessible from the R5 map link) with time we hope that each centre will expand on these by creating a regularly updated information page for their centre detailing their activities, latest news and so forth. The link to the R5 website is: As this site has only recently been launched we are still updating many of the links/ pages so not all pages currently work. We hope that over the next few weeks the site will be fully operational and that each centre will be regularly updating their information. 4 Sathya Sai Education Building Project This year, the Sri Sathya Sai Service Organisation (SSSSO) in the UK is celebrating a significant milestone in its history. On 31 st December 2008, Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba approved a proposal prepared by the Sri Sathya Sai Charitable Trust to purchase a building in Leicester for the purpose of advancing Sathya Sai Education and other SSSSO activities in the UK. Bhagawan s exact words were My blessings are with you. Since receiving the approval, different parts of the Sai Organisation have been working together to make His blessings a reality. The building is situated on Narborough Road in Leicester (LE3 0BT). It is a Grade II listed building that has excellent characteristics and has been well maintained. It is located on the main route into Leicester City Centre and has easy access by road and public transport. Until September 2008 it was used as a College of Further Education and has 22 large classrooms, spread over 3 floors. The site also has parking facilities for approximately 70 vehicles. The building meets all present academic, legal and building standards for schools and so will be ideal for the purposes of the Sathya Sai School Leicester 1. We also envision it being used by the local Sai Centres, the SSSSO and the British Institute of Sathya Sai Education. Overall the building will serve: As a permanent home of our full time Sathya Sai School Leicester As the Headquarters of the Sri Sathya Sai Service Organisation UK The needs of the local Sai Centres and thereby the local population with such activities as holiday schools and weekend classes As an ideal venue for providing training on Sai Spiritual Education and Sathya Sai EHV, including the formal courses offered by the British Institute of Sathya Sai education (BISSE). The United Kingdom was the first country outside India to have a Sri Sathya Sai Centre. The Sathya Sai School Leicester is the only such School in Europe. It has been a dream of all Sai devotees in the UK to have our own School building and to have a home for the 1 At present a full time independent school for children from age 3 to 12. The topic will focus on developing FAITH in SAI, delivered with interactive workshops which will be held to help understand and implement Sai s Teaching's into our everyday lives. 8 Sathya Sai Education in Human Values Truth Love Peace Right Conduct Non-Violence An OCN Accredited Life Skills course for PSHE and Citizenship, Emotional Literacy and Self Development Training in the SSEHV Programme will be held at The Glen, Cuckoo Hill, Pinner, Middx. HA5 2BE from 0845 hours to 1700 hours from Friday 10 th April 2009 to Friday 17 th April Assessment, Presentation, etc. on Sunday 19 th April The course will explain the principles in detail and give you the practical skills needed to start teaching Sathya Sai EHV as part of PSHE, RE, Assembly or Citizenship classes, either as a teacher or as a volunteer support assistant in your local school. Also, many participants say they find it an excellent training in Life Skills for themselves. A minimum of ten participants is required for the course to go ahead and we ask people to commit to attend all eight sessions. Preference will be given to those who are willing to offer voluntary support to the SSEHV programme. Full information on Open College Network accreditation and the work it involves will be given during the course. 9 Dear Brothers and Sisters, Heart Valve Bank Charter Flight UK Sadhana Camp in Prashanthi Nilayam Saturday 1 st - Thursday 13th August 2009 At around 17:30 on Wednesday 25 th February 2009, The UK Sadhana Camp Charter Flight for 2009 was blessed by Bhagavan in Prashanthi Nilayam veranda during darshan. On a separate occasion Bhagavan also spent a further 40 minutes discussing and providing direction to Puppet sir, whereby He commissioned the theme for the second Sadhana Camp of its kind: Mind, Body & Atma. In regularity with last year, each day has been carefully designed with a detailed itinerary beginning with 21 aumkars, suprabhatam, prayer sessions, yogic exercises, jyoti meditation, praanadhyaana, seminars, workshops and talks; focussing on improvements of mind, body and soul. As we learn from past and strive for bigger and better, this years Sadhana Camp will place great emphasis on individual and personal character development through Sadhana; will involve Prashanthi faculty members and students as per Bhagavan s instruction and will be closely directed and monitored by Bhagavan Himself. The camp is strictly restricted to those aged with no exceptions and will be physically challenging as well as spiritually rewarding. 13 Diploma Course at ISSE I have attached an below, for your information, regarding the next course of ISSE (Institute of Sathya Sai Education). I have also given a brief summary regarding ISSE for those that are not aware of it. About ISSE : The Institute of Sathya Sai Education was established in order to propagate the ideals of Sathya Sai Education in primary and secondary schools, colleges and universities. The aim of this method of education is to develop human excellence or good character along with academic achievement, in other words the all-round development of the child. In order to speed up the establishment of Sathya Sai Schools and the adoption of schools, as well as introducing Sathya Sai Education Human Values in schools, colleges and universities in as many countries as possible, it is necessary to have more experienced trainers, who can conduct training seminars for school teachers. It is thus necessary to set up Regional Institutes of Sathya Sai Education in various countries. The Institute of Sathya Sai Education, Thailand was officially opened on the 17th of May 1998 and presently serves as the headquarters. The Sri Sathya Sai Education in Human Values Trust, Mumbai, India, established the Institute in India in The African Institute of Sathya Sai Education was launched on the 1st January, The latest Institute to be inaugurated was in the Philippines on December 14th This Regional Institute will serve the surrounding countries. The Indian, African and Philippine Regional Institutes are affiliated with the Institute in Thailand. Many other countries have also established their own branch of the Institute. Their responsibilities extend to the training of teachers and the establishment of new Sathya Sai Schools within their own country. As a training center for teachers and educators, the Institute helps promote Sathya Sai Education in primary and secondary schools, colleges and universities. At present, ISSE courses are conducted twice a year at the Institute premises in both Thailand and Zambia for post-graduate students.
