2 OUR YEAR IN REVIEW Eastern Switzerland is Europe s leading cluster for business digitalization In the beginning we launched a collective initiative to address the shortage of skilled ICT professionals in our region. Our next step was the development of activities dedicated to growing the areas of networking, training and education. And now we advance to the next level: To deploy and bundle our strengths as proven experts in the digitalization of companies and businesses. Here in Eastern Switzerland, we enjoy a high density of leading ICT companies already active in the digitalization of corporations and business processes. And we offer an outstanding ecosystem for these companies. If we concentrate all the strengths and opportunities of our region, the «digital b2b» movement may well become the successor to Eastern Switzerland s once mighty textile industry. To focus on a single strategy implies that you take your eyes off things that are less important. This endeavor isn t always easy. Especially when facing the challenge to integrate and unite many different interests and points of view. The fact that we at «IT St.Gallen rockt!» have found the energy to do exactly this, makes us enormously proud. As does the incredible amount of public support we have received and the momentum we have created. A large majority of our members have approved our strategy of focusing on strengthening our industry cluster, particularly in the area of the digitalization of businesses. Many of the strategic provisions involved go far beyond talent attraction and recruitment. Local companies and government agencies alike have signaled their very positive and encouraging commitment to increased support for our important endeavor. In the years ahead we will be eager to further strengthen our organization s identity, to intensify our cooperation and to successfully position our brand on the national and international stage. «A successful cluster attracts more of its kind: Entrepreneurs and businesses, skilled talent and apprentices, researchers as well as educators. This yields new collaborations, innovations, products and services, as well as knowledge and expertise.» As an organization, we will be judged by our future success in going full circle: Not only to keep some of our best and brightest from emigrating to Zurich, Berlin and the rest of the world but to create our very own professional niche that attracts global talent to Eastern Switzerland in the first place. 4 ORGANIZATION «IT St.Gallen rocks!» We are With approximately 2000 ICT companies employing a workforce of more than , the region around St.Gallen/ Bodensee simply is Switzerland s location of choice for those most entrepreneurial and ambitious in the ICT sector. An association of ICT companies and other stakeholders of the ICT cluster in the St. Gallen/Bodensee region. Their trademarks are high productivity and the projection of growing demand for ICT services across all sectors and industries, among them Enterprise Software, Business Process Engineering and Outsourcing, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Content Management System (CMS) as well as Internet Technology, E-Commerce, IT security and SaaS, App Development, E-Services, Data and Computing Centers, and in Engineering, Consulting, Sourcing and Solutions. Together, we share the goal of substantially expanding the region s talent pool in order to shape a sustainable and successful future of our business environment. Educational Partners The precondition for a thriving ICT sector is the availability of highly-qualified professionals. And in order to secure their availability, an ICT cluster requires an attractive and wide variety of (continuing) education and practical training options. As of today, a number of prominent educational partners are on the board of the «IT St.Gallen rocks!» initiative. Together, we are committed to expand our region s existing offerings in education and practical training to further foster and support entrepreneurship in the ICT sector. PAGE 5

6 PARTNERS Network Partners A network usually consists of an organized group of people and institutions who share a set of interests and offer mutual support. This is exactly the aim of the «IT St.Gallen rockt!» initiative and its network partners. Every partner hails from a uniquely individual background, but all bring one shared goal to the table: to strengthen the business sector in Eastern Switzerland, and particularly its ICT cluster. And together we work towards the execution of this mission. Government The City of St. Gallen and the region s investment promotion agency St.GallenBodenseeArea are supporters of the «IT St.Gallen rockt!» initiative. St.GallenBodenseeArea The St.GallenBodenseeArea is the official cooperation of Eastern Switzerland s cantons St.Gallen, Thurgau and Appenzell (both Inner and Ausser Rhoden) dedicated to international investment/location promotion and the support of companies pursuing business expansion project in Switzerland s most cost-efficient economic area. More than 2 million people live in this business region covering most of Eastern Switzerland, among them professionals employed in roughly 2000 companies active in the ICT industry. They enjoy a highly beneficial strategic location in the heart of Europe (right between the metropolises of Munich, Stuttgart, Milan and Zurich), and minimal commuting times to the region s international airports (Altenrhein and Zurich airports are only 30 and 60 minutes away). With its unique cost/ benefit ratio, the St.GallenBodenseeArea is one of the most attractive business areas in Europe, and the world.
