1 CALL TO BROWARD ARTISTS Call to Artists Governmental Center Murals Broward Cultural Division s Public Art & Design program is seeking to commission one or more professional artists or artist teams to design and implement up to three murals. The murals will be located in multiple locations at the County s Governmental Center and the adjacent parking garage. Project Goal The selected artist s design proposals should reflect and celebrate the Board of County Commissioner s vision (below) and relate to the services that the County provides to its residents as communicated by County staff in engagement sessions with the Artist(s). Artist(s) who are awarded a commission will be required to conduct creative community engagement activities with County staff and stakeholders. Selected artist(s), or a minimum of one member of an artist team, must be Broward County residents. The Broward County Board of County Commissioners envisions: 1. Project Description The location for artwork is the Broward County Governmental Center, 115 S. Andrews Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, Florida There are three locations for artwork including two spaces in the building and one wall in the adjacent parking garage used by County employees. The selected artists will be required to conduct one or more creative engagement activities with County staff and the activities will inform the artwork. Engagement may include creative dialogues, workshops, structured meetings, charrettes, or any other face-to-face outreach activity envisioned by the Artist(s). 1

3 Site C. Approximately 4 h x 18 w Project Budget The total budget established for the project is not to exceed $6,000. This budget may be divided to provide for one or more separate art projects with multiple artists. The budget includes but is not limited to: meeting attendance, materials, installation, community outreach activities, insurance, travel and all applicable taxes. Artist Eligibility This Call to Artists is open to individuals residing in Broward County. If applying as a team, a minimum of one member must be a Broward County resident. Hard copies will not be accepted. Required submission materials include: Professional Résumé If applicable, include community engagement experience, public art commissions with contact information for Project Manager or Program Director and budget size. Electronic Images Artist(s) may submit ten digital images of most recent relevant work. JPEG format is preferred. Annotated Image List Include name of artist, title of work, year, media, size, and location of artwork, project budget, image number and any other relevant information. 3

4 Eligibility Please confirm that you are a Broward County resident. Accept Terms and Conditions of County s Commissioned Artwork Agreement. NOTE: Hard copy materials will not be accepted for this Call to Artists. Applicants are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the County s Commissioned Artwork Agreement. Application Process and Selection Criteria The Broward Cultural Division manages the application process. An Artist Selection Panel will review the applications. This Panel includes a member of the Public Art & Design Committee, arts professionals, and agency and County community representatives. The Panel will review the applicant s qualifications and select a shortlist of finalists on the basis of the excellence of their past work of similar scope as demonstrated by the visuals and other submission materials and the interview. The Panel will also consider the versatility and appropriateness of the media in which the artist has demonstrated proficiency, as it relates to the scope of this project. The County reserves the right not to accept any of the applicants or cancel the project. Commissioned artworks are the result of a dynamic interaction between selected artists and local community and constituent groups during the design phase of each project. The Broward County Public Art & Design Program is recognized with distinction in national and international circles. In 2002, four of Broward County s public artworks were selected among an international ensemble of some of the world s finest public artworks and listed in the Australian publication, Designing the World s Best Public Art. Broward County Public Art & Design program is a national leader in developing model public art policies and best practices, producing exemplary public artworks synthesizing design excellence. Broward County has received five Americans for the Arts Year in Review 4
