2 FUNDRAISING ACTIVITY IDEAS Take a look at a few ideas you can use to host a successful NHPW Campus FUNdraising Challenge. Whatever you do, make it FUN! T-shirt Sale Buy 200 NHPW t-shirts from our approved vendor, CampusT-shirt.com, for $5 each. Then sell them for $10 on your campus. You ll recoup your investment AND raise $1,000 for your annual campus membership in HazingPrevention.Org. Mile of Pennies If you were to lay pennies side by side, it would take nearly 85,000 of them to run the length of one mile that s $850! Collect as many of the most despised U.S. monetary component for a great cause. Raffle or Silent Auction Reach out to potential sponsors on your campus (i.e., the student bookstore or food service) and in your local community for some great item to raffle off. Gather smaller items and hold a silent auction. Or, go door to door in your community, asking people to donate to a raffle to win a day of student-donated yard work or other help. Campus Garage Sale What student, staff or faculty member doesn t have something to donate to a garage sale to raise money for a super cause? Open up the sale to the campus and the community to take advantage of every possible treasure hunter. All the World s a Stage So put let your campus talent (or the untalented) compete to see who s the best performer, and charge admission. Bands, vocalists, instrumental soloists, poets, comedians, dancers, acrobats you name it. Go for the Goal How about a punt-pass-and-kick-type of competition? Hotbox on the basketball court? Free kicks on the soccer field? Homeruns? Shot put? There s competition everywhere, so score one for hazing prevention! Olympics Set up your own campus Olympics and charge teams a fee to compete for prizes, trophies or just braggin rights. Fashion Show Ask your community clothing stores to lend you their wares and raise money by charging admission.

3 Dance the Night Away Host a party and dance to the music of a local DJ or bands (who might donate their services). Add a bonfire, hotdogs and marshmallows (perhaps donated by your campus foodservice or local grocery store) and draw even the non-dancers. Just charge admission. Athletics Ask your campus varsity sports teams to contribute some of the ticket proceeds from a game during NHPW toward your Campus Fundraising Challenge, and ask your concessionaires to donate a portion of the proceeds as well. Student-Faculty Challenge Challenge your campus faculty and staff to match whatever students raise, dollar for dollar. Retail Sponsors Ask your campus and local retailers to provide sponsorship dollars you can use to defray your fundraising costs or simply add into your total. In exchange for their donations, give them sponsor recognition in media coverage, on posters, flyers, announcements, s, etc.

5 SAMPLE PSAs Radio and television stations are required by the Federal Communications Corporation (FCC) to air Public Service Announcements (PSAs) for nonprofit causes. While they aren t required to air specific PSAs, media outlets are often interested in receiving them to air as a community service. Following are sample 15-, 30 and 60-second PSAs. In addition, if you send the basic information for an event the who, what, why, where, when and how of it to radio and TV stations that offer a community calendar as part of their public service, you will get some additional publicity. :15 PSA You can help [Campus Name] win the National Hazing Prevention Week Campus FUNdraising Challenge. 6 SAMPLE FUNDRAISING LETTER You can use the following to help draft a traditional letter and/or an message to prospective donors to your fundraising efforts. 7 SAMPLE THANK-YOU/GIFT ACKNOWLEDGEMENT Sending your donors and sponsors a thank-you letter does two key things. First, you are thanking them for supporting your efforts, and every donor likes to hear a thank you. Second, by including specific information about their donation, that thank-you letter serves as a receipt for their donation, which they often need for tax purposes. Following is some basic text you can use within the content of your letter: On behalf of [Campus Name], I thank you for your donation of [specify $amount and/or in-kind items donated] to our National Hazing Prevention Week Campus FUNdraising Challenge. Your support helped us raise [$total raised] to help HazingPrevention.Org empower people to prevent hazing in college and university student groups.
