11 November/December 2016 Stretching Your Dollars and Cents! It is a beautiful time of the year. We will soon be enjoying Halloween, Thanksgiving and before we are ready that s right, Christmas will be here! Have you planned for buying gifts and all the extra holiday expenses? Now is the time to plan ahead for the year Essentials for Saving Money 1. Knowing your spending patterns. Keep a record of all spending for a week to increase awareness of where money is really being spent. 2. Know all your resources. Remember, money is just one of the many time, energy, skills, health, education, community. Striving for a balance among them stretches each one. 3. Know your goal. Write down what is important to you. Ask yourself whether you are spending money on those things that are important to you. 4. Remember the 3 key words for cutting spending: SIMPLIFY SHARE SUBSTITUTE 5. As you look for changes, ask: What changes would have the least bad effects? What is important in our life? Change is Hard Before buying ask yourself: Do I need this? Is it even good for me? What would happen if I could not have it? Is there a better way to spend this money? Do I still want it? Why? Spider Snacks Ingredients: Round snack crackers, peanut butter, stick pretzels, raisins. Put a dab of peanut butter in a cracker. Break pretzels into approximately 3 pieces, and stick three on one side of the peanut butter and three on the other side for legs. Put two raisins at one end of the cracker for eyes. Enjoy For more information contact: Carolyn Schmidt, Nutrition Education Program Assistant PURDUE UNIVERSITY Cooperative Extension Service (812)
