1 Volume 50, Issue 3 June 2015 Monthly Publication of Woodbridge Elks Lodge 2355 Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks LODGE OFFICERS EXALTED RULER Michael Haman Hello Elk family, EXALTED RULER S MESSAGE Welcome to June, the second of my five favorite months. With pleasure I announce our Elk of the month as Mr. Wayne Wirick, PER. Wayne quietly performs many tasks "behind the scenes", including putting together our monthly newsletter via and hard copy, and sends out "blasts" of urgent Lodge information. Congratulations Wayne, and the birch beer, Coney Island hotdogs and Snyder s potato chips are on me! It's been a busy May around the Lodge with the clean up/maintenance day held on May 16th. A huge thank you to everyone who participated. Many items were addressed and a lot of hard work was done by all (sorry for my power washer being in one of it's moods in being hard to start). The Lodge building and grounds look great! We'll probably schedule another clean up day sometime in the fall before the District Deputy's visit. A special thank you goes out to our Inner Guard Karen Smart for performing some much needed sewing repairs to our Lodge Jewels. Thank you Karen, great job! Joe Clay really "pack 'em in" Friday night May 15th when he hosted karaoke. I heard from several people that it was one of the largest crowds we've had in the Lodge in quite a while, and I'm sure that everyone had a great time. A few upcoming events to keep in mind: SADSAC will be holding their 2nd bingo at our Lodge on June 7th from 2-6 PM. Please come out and support this worthy cause, hit bingo and win some money. 2 Our Lodge will be performing the Flag Day ceremony with the assistance of Boy Scout Troop 1390 on June 14th at 1 PM. Come to the Lodge and honor your flag, for many thousands of brave men and women have died for this the highest symbol of freedom in the world. Maria and I will be attending the State Lodge Convention in Chesapeake, Virginia on June 12th and June 13th, and look forward to meeting fellow Elks from across the state. As this is my first convention, I'm sure it will be a valuable learning experience, and maybe help prepare me for my attendance at the Grand Lodge convention next month. Let me close by reminding my Elk family that at the June 17th Lodge meeting we will be voting on the Woodbridge/Manassas Lodge merger resolution that was read on the floor on May 6th and mailed to everyone on May 10th. I strongly encourage everyone to attend this meeting and cast a vote on this important issue. Stay safe and cool this summer and see you at the Lodge! Fraternally Yours, Michael Haman Exalted Ruler SECRETARY NOTE: Members are reminded that the Lodge will be voting on the resolution to merge Manassas Lodge 2512 with our Lodge during the June 17 th Lodge Meeting. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ * * * * U., S. 3 * * * * Wayne A. Wirick, PER * * * * June Elk of the Month Wayne A. Wirick has been a member of our lodge for seventeen (17) years. During these years, Wayne continues to serves our lodge in his quiet, unassuming way. He held the position of Exalted Ruler during Lodge Year and held the position of Lodge Esquire for many years. He is also a member of the Past Exalted Ruler Association and for the past ten years has been their Secretary/Treasurer. Wayne is the editor of our monthly newsletter, The Antler. A position he has held for the past thirteen (13) years!!!! Soon after becoming a member, Wayne quickly gravitated to the needs of the ARC of Woodbridge Christmas Program held annually at the Lodge. This program provides a holiday party for eight-five (85) county citizens that are physically and developmentally challenged. This includes coordinating with the ARC of Woodbridge s Executive Director, securing shoppers to buy gifts for each client, ensure the Lodge is aware of special food preparation requirements, provide entertainment AND contact SANTA to present Christmas Gifts to each client. Wayne is a long time member of McGuire Team representing the Lodge during our annual visit to Hunter G. McGuire Veterans Medical Center located in Richmond, Virginia He knows the staff members and many patients who reside at the facility whom we visit each year. Along with other members of the Team, Wayne visits each patient in the Hospice and Nursing Home Units, engages in conversation regarding their service to our country and their families and presents each patient with gifts to brighten their day. Additionally, he recently attended the Wheel Chair Games competition for veterans that was held in Richmond. When there is a need at the Lodge, Wayne is always there to help to ensure everything runs smoothly. Congratulations Wayne for being Elk of the Month for June. SICKNESS AND DISTRESS Joseph D. Mihokovich, SR. passed away on April 29 th. Joe was a life member of our lodge. Our condolences are extended to the entire Mihokovich family at this difficult time. Jeremiah Burns recently was diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer and will start treatment in a couple of weeks. We wish our friend Jeremiah the very best as he starts his battle against this disease. Neal Barbato is under the weather with a case of Vertigo. We wish Neal a speedy recovery so he and Christen can enjoy vacationing at the islands in a couple of weeks. Take care Neal.

The Hall: Need a location for your special event; don t forget the Lodge Hall is available for your parties. Think of the Lodge when scheduling those office off-site business meetings; plenty of space for Wedding, baby/bridal showers. The hall is available days and nights. Soda Can Tabs: When purchasing canned soda from the bar, remember to remove the opening tab and give them to the bartenders. These tabs are donated to local charities such as Ronald McDonald House and Dialysis Centers. Save your tabs at home and bring them to the Club and place them in the bucket under the Elk head. Clean Up Day at the Lodge Saturday, May 16 th was the scheduled annual clean-up day at the Lodge. Many tasks on the list to be accomplished could not be addressed. The majority of our effort was diverted to problems pointed out by the county for repair/update. Obviously, the lodge was not aware of violations the county found and therefore the job was, and still is, monumental. Our devoted team of volunteers worked hard and diligently to make a dent in the large task that lies ahead. A great big Thank You the following members who helped.
