Background: I graduated from Strayer University with a Bachelor s Degree in Computer Networking, and a minor in Business Management. I ve worked in Information Technology for over 20 years and have received numerous training certificates. In the past, I ve owned a dump truck business and currently own a cleaning business. I also am a licensed Real Estate Agent. Describe your job: I analyze, plan and implement new technologies related to the Department s business needs, which includes software support, troubleshooting hardware and network accounts, and the installation of various applications. Favorite aspect of my job: Working with users to troubleshoot and resolve issues so that they are able to do their jobs efficiently. I love the feeling of conquering and resolving a problem while making end-users happy because their work needs have been met. What are the challenges: The challenges are the day-to-day issues that Computer Services encounter behind the scenes. We re always working to resolve problems unbeknownst to endusers. Technology is great when it s working. Keeping it functional is a full time job and implementing new technologies is a never-ending task. What motivates you to excel: Striving to progressively learn and grow in order to reach my best self. I do my best to act in a way that is honest, real and consistent with the morals and values I profess. What I like best about Richmond: Everything! It s my hometown. I was born and raised here and it will always have my heart. If I could make one change in the world, it would be: I would cure cancer. It has taken so many people away too soon. How I unwind: I enjoy spending time with family, especially my one-year-old granddaughter, the apple of my eye. I also enjoy movies, plays, concerts, dancing, traveling and walks in the park. Officer Juan Tejeda instructed the 18 participants in the seven-week course which focused on the court process, constitutional rights, domestic violence, DUI and personal safety. Christmas Cards for our Troops The holidays are coming up! Crime Analyst Marisol Wood has delivered boxes of Christmas cards to each precinct roll-call room. Anyone who would like to write a card to a member of the armed services is welcome to do so! 6 Blood Drive Success It was another successful Omega Psi Phi fraternity blood drive this week as members of the Department donated at the Virginia Blood Services truck parked at the Training Academy. Five members of the Department, DRO Sergeant Raymond Fitts, SID Detective Demetrium Melton, Third Precinct Officer Louis Burrell, Third Precinct Officer Jason Smith, and Matthew Peanort from Business Services are members of the fraternity, which was founded in These members use the blood drives, held in autumn and spring of each year, to provide a needed service to the community. 7 A Letter of Thanks to the NAOs Why would six "normal" people set their clocks for 5 a.m., roll out of bed, dress and head for a 7 a.m. post assignment on a very cold (mid-20 s) Saturday morning for no compensation. COMMITMENT & DEDICATION! That is exactly what six of the RPD VOLUNTEER Neighborhood Assistance Officers had during the Richmond Marathon. NAOs Herman Anderson, Jose Arevalo, Linda Dunham, Ray Gargiulo, Scott Kozel and George Gallagher, under Gallagher's leadership, were all at their posts at 7 a.m. They provided a safe route for the marathon runners along Photo courtesy: RTD Westmoreland Ave., from Patterson to Grove avenues, for the duration of the Marathon. When they signed up for the NAO program they made the commitment to support the RPD officers and Richmond citizens to the best of their ability and the Marathon performance showed their dedication to fulfilling that commitment! Guns & Hoses Fundraising Hockey Game The Norfolk Police Department is asking for ice hockey players to play in the upcoming Guns and Hoses Hockey Game! This game is being held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 2 at Chilled Ponds in Chesapeake, VA. The Virginia Law Enforcement Hockey Team (Enforcers) is seeking Law Enforcement officers with significant hockey experience to join them in the game.
