Summer is a busy time for the CTE office; budget and grant reporting, planning for 2018/2019 and working on all the different projects we have no time for during each semester.

1 June-July Newsletter Dean s Message It is the summer period at Columbia College. Students and faculty have finished their work and went on vacation. Summer; time to enjoy life, the sun, the sea, and culture. Time for travelling, to read books, and perhaps some time for work to prepare for the next semester. Summer is a busy time for the CTE office; budget and grant reporting, planning for 2018/2019 and working on all the different projects we have no time for during each semester. Hopefully our proper planning prevents poor performance approach will give us a smooth start to another great semester. I would like to wish all of you a great and inspiring summer, and I will see you again at the start of the new academic year. She received two AA s, one in Cartography and Information Analysis and one in Historical Landmarks Management and Preservation, before going on to earn a Bachelor s Degree as a Documentation and

2 CTE Feature This summer we are featuring Isabelle Lacazotte! Bella started at YCCD as a Library Technician at MJC in 2006 before coming to work for the Vice President of Instruction at Columbia College in In 2017, Bella became the Administrative Specialist in charge of purchasing & budgets for both ASHP & CTE. Bella was born in Normandy, France and went to college in her hometown of Rouen, a medieval town well-known for its rich history, especially the infamous burning of Joan of Arc. She received two AA s, one in Cartography and Information Analysis and one in Historical Landmarks Management and Preservation, before going on to earn a Bachelor s Degree as a Documentation and Information Specialist in Paris, France. Bella moved to California in June 2005, and when she is not at work she enjoys walking her dogs and riding her horses. She has recently begun to learn English riding and has started competing in Hunter Pace. Bella s daughter studies both French and English law at an international law school in France. Her son is a U.S. Navy veteran who is currently attending college in San Diego to become a mechanic. Isabelle Lacazotte Bella showing her Claim Jumper pride at the YCCD picnic! CCAI Team at the CAI Lab in Sacramento Apprenticeship Update The apprenticeship team is still busy as can be during the summer, recruiting at events such as the Jamestown Family Fiesta, the Sonora High All In day, the Summerville High All In day, and the Calaveras Freedom Day. They recently attended a conference for CAI grantees at American River College as well as a statewide meeting at Berkeley City College for community colleges interested in implementing an Early Childhood Education Apprenticeship. The team is looking forward to their apprentices returning to campus for orientations on August 13 & 14!

3 Columbia College administration, faculty, staff, and students gathered together in their Claim Jumper pride to walk in the Mother Lode Round Up parade on Saturday, May 12. Look for signups next spring to join in the fun!

5 Columbia College teaches the Fire Science 1 class at the Pine Grove Youth Conservation Camp. Pine Grove was the first of six Youth Conservation Camps dedicated to the rehabilitation of our young men and the conservation of California s natural resources. Pine Grove Camp opened in 1945 and is the oldest fire camp in continuous operation in the country. The camp is operated jointly by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CALFIRE) and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Division of Juvenile Justice (CDCR- DJJ) and presently houses 80 wards, ranging in age from 18 to 24 years old.
