1 British Universities and Colleges Sports National 10 Mile Time Trial Championships Event Information Cambridge University Cycling Club Saturday 7 th April 2018 Course: E33/10 Start: 13:01 EVENT HQ: Bottisham Village College, Lode Road, Bottisham, Cambridgeshire, CB25 9DL Promoted for and on behalf of Cycling Time Trials under their Rules and Regulations Please Read Thoroughly Event Headquarters Registration will be held at the event headquarters: Bottisham Village College, Lode Road, Bottisham, Cambridgeshire, CB25 9DL. Registration will be open from 11:45. The event HQ is approximately half a mile from the course start. There are ample quiet roads near the event HQ for warming-up, such as the lanes around Bottisham and the B1102. Please use either these roads, or a turbo/rollers. Warming up on the A1303 (the main road the course is on) is forbidden any riders caught warming on up the A1303 may be disqualified from the event. Parking will be available at the event HQ. The main car park for the event is the college s overflow car park, which can be found on the left of the road immediately before the college s main entrance, if you are coming from the A1303. Please note that despite it being the Easter holidays, the college opens its sports facilities to the public and needs to reserve some of its parking for this, so please only park in their overflow car park unless otherwise directed on the day. The overflow car park should provide ample parking, but if it is full then there is additional space to park on the road running through Bottisham itself. If you do park on the road, please do so courteously to local residents and do not block any entrances or driveways. Please be mindful that Bottisham is a small and friendly village, and you must show gratitude and respect to its residents. In previous years when the HQ was in the adjacent village of Stow Cum Quy, we received numerous complaints from the villagers of discourteous behaviour; people parking inappropriately and even urinating outside people s gardens. Should any such behaviour be observed this year, CUCC reserves the right to disqualify riders involved, and no refunds will be given. 1

2 Light refreshments will be served in the Event HQ after riders have finished racing. Please do not wear cleated shoes in the college, but remove them and carry them in. Please be aware that there will be no secure storage areas for bikes or equipment, and it is riders responsibility to ensure that equipment is secure before heading into the Event HQ. It is strongly advised that bikes are returned to the vehicles they were brought in, or locked to a fixed object. Neither CUCC nor Bottisham Village College accept any liability for lost or stolen equipment during the BUCS event. Please do not park in the start lay-by or near the finish area. Time keepers: Tim Groves and Becki Groves Event Organiser: Ryan Pringle (rp564@cam.ac.uk) Course description The START is just east of Bell Lane on the A1303. After about 2 miles the road will climb a short hill and cross the A14. There then follows a slight descent on a long straight section of road to a roundabout, where the A1303 meets the A1304. You should join this roundabout and do one lap, leaving at the fifth exit so that you re-join the A1303. The fourth exit looks remarkably appealing for some reason, and at a recent club event 2 people decided to take it! Ignore this and take the fifth exit to re-join the road you were on before. You then retrace your route back to the start. Please take care to avoid the slip road (onto the A14 to Cambridge) you should stay on the A1303 throughout (i.e. it s 5 miles in a straight line, turn around, 5 miles back). After crossing the A14 there is a slight descent, before a further two miles on flat. The FINISH is a paint mark about 22 yards east of first sign, 'Bottisham 1/2, Swaffham Bulbeck 2', about 50 yards before start. Please shout your number at the finish! Course Map Please do not stop at the finish line but continue to ride until you are up the hill and out of sight of the finish line, before making your way back to the event HQ. Ideally, your route back to the event HQ (Route back to HQ) will be via Stow Cum Quy and the B1102. This will provide a good warm down, and ensure you do not get in the way of riders at the start/finish. As with warming up, no warming down is permitted on the course itself. Drafting Competitors must ride entirely alone and unassisted, and not ride in company or take shelter from the other riders or vehicles. A competitor overtaking another must pass without receiving or giving shelter. The onus of avoiding company riding shall be upon the rider overtaken. Cycling Time Trials 2

3 Your Safety The course runs on public roads which may be busy with traffic. All riders are expected to be familiar with and obey the highway code. In the interests of your own safety, Cycling Time Trials and Cambridge University Cycling Club strongly advise you to wear a hard-shell helmet that meets an internationally accepted safety standard. In order to be eligible for BUCS points or medals you must wear a helmet and use a rear light. U-turns are not permitted within sight of the start and finish points, nor on the course. Offenders are liable for disqualification. As mentioned, there are good, quiet roads for warming up near the sign on area. Warming up on the course is forbidden. The course is, for the most part, well-surfaced, but please not that there are a couple of small potholes. It is riders responsibility to keep their head up at all times and beware of these. There will be a Marshall stationed at the roundabout, but it is the responsibility of riders to know the course. At the roundabout, as ever, you must give way to traffic coming from the right. The race will be run under Cycling Time Trials rules and regulations. A copy is available on their website and it is strongly advised that you read it: If you are new to time trialling you are encouraged to read these notes. Start Sheet Riders start times are shown below. If you miss your start time, you will be unable to race, so as ever, please ensure you are at the start line in plenty of time. This year we have chosen to integrate the male and female riders. As was specified in the pre-event information though, there will be separate categories for male and female riders, and separate awards it is just the start times that are integrated.
