1 North Carolina Environmental Management Commission Member Bios Steven J. Rowlan, P.E. (Chairman) Current, General Manager of Environmental Affairs for Nucor Corporation Nucor Corporation is the largest recycler in North America and the largest steel manufacturing company in the United States. Mr. Rowlan s responsibilities include all aspects of environmental affairs, permitting, regulatory compliance and related engineering for all of Nucor s operations. Native of Burley, Idaho with degrees in Political Science from Idaho State University and Civil Engineering from Utah State University. As a professional engineer he worked in consulting for many years prior to joining Nucor in He has chaired both the Steel Manufacturer s Association and the American Iron and Steel Institute Environment Committees. Served as a member of the Asia Pacific Partnership US Iron and Steel Task Force. Served as an elected official, as a board member for several small companies & NGOs along with participating in the USEPAs common sense initiative, the US National Voluntary Mercury Switch Removal negotiations and has provided testimony regarding climate change legislation before congress. Fluent in Korean having learned the language while serving as a missionary in the Republic of South Korea in the 1970s.
