2 About Us Gray Stone Day School is a public charter high school adjacent to Pfeiffer University in Misenheimer, North Carolina. The school was founded in the fall of 2002 with the goal of providing a rigorous, college preparatory curriculum to students in the region. The curriculum is centered around Honors and Advanced Placement courses and the faculty expects an in-depth understanding of material through analysis, synthesis, cross-curricular application, and original thought. Admissions Gray Stone is a school of choice. Admissions at Gray Stone Day School is based solely on space availability. No academic criteria can be used to determine acceptance. We do educate our potential applicants about the level of difficulty they should expect and the amount of outside of class work that will be required, but in the end, the choice is theirs. Gray Stone provides a difficult curriculum and has high expectations. As a school of choice, we don t apologize for that. Gray Stone was the best decision my mom ever made for me. Making the transition to Gray Stone can be difficult. Students come to us from as many as 27 different middle schools throughout the region to make up our freshman class. Many students see a significant drop in their performance in coming to Gray Stone as the level of work far exceeds what they are used to. FROM THE ADMINISTRATION Gray Stone provides a comprehensive program of college counseling beginning in the ninth grade. We employ Naviance Software as a tool for our students and families during the college search process. Students are encouraged to approach high school as an opportunity to develop their talents through schoolwork, service, and extra-curricular activities. We also ask students to examine their own values, personalities, and natural strengths.

3 Academic Structure Gray Stone Day School operates on a 185-day academic year with core classes lasting the entire year. Some elective classes operate on a semester basis. All courses require in-depth final examinations or the equivalent. The academic day schedule is a hybrid of block and traditional class times with each class meeting four days per week for a total of 245 minutes per week. Enrichments Class Rank Five weeks are set aside throughout the year to allow students to explore pursuits that interest them. These activities may be as simple as a lifetime hobby or life skills; however, there exists an opportunity to tackle some more academically engaging curricula in engineering, computers, conspiracy theories, or forensic science. GPA Range MIDDLE 50% Graduation Requirements Gray Stone does not rank students based on GPA. As a college preparatory school with many gifted students, it is very difficult to measure student success by comparing performance. Those students who have a GPA near the median are not necessarily performing at an average level. Many years, the median GPA at Gray Stone would be in the top 20% at other traditional schools. In lieu of releasing ranking, our College Counseling Office provides an in-depth profile of the school with every issued transcript so that colleges and scholarship committees can better understand the caliber of the school as it relates to the student s performance. In order to receive a diploma from Gray Stone, students must complete minimum standards. All students are required to complete a minimum of 23 credits toward graduation which includes 4 English courses, 4 Math courses, 3 Science courses, 3 Socials Studies courses, 2 Foreign Language courses, 1 Health and Physical Education course, and 3 courses of Academic Electives which come from the core and are at least Honors in designation. Gray Stone recommends that all students attempt an AP course and an online course prior to graduation as part of their preparation for college. In addition to the academic courses, all students must complete a 20 hour service project. 4 SAT Score Results These SAT score results are from the Class of 2016 and to be used as a comparison for the typical Gray Stone student body. That scale is provided. Prior to that time, Gray Stone used a graduated letter grade system on a seven point scale. Transcripts of Exam % 3+ current graduating seniors reflect both grading scales as these students have courses on both sides of the transition. As a school, across all exams, Gray Stone earned an AP Equity score of 71%. This indicates the percentage of students scoring at least a level 3. The percentage of students scoring at least a level 3 in each exam is offered in the chart. All students are encouraged to take AP Courses although the teachers employ a vetting process to make sure students are prepared. Participation in the exam is optional but paid for by the state.
