2 2017 Annual General Assembly Objectives Consistent with the AFN Charter, Assemblies provide First Nations Chiefs or their designated representatives a forum at which they can: Develop consensus on fundamental issues and common interests affecting First Nations. Discuss political strategy and policy issues on key topics such as implementing the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples as well as the Truth and Reconciliation s call to action, Inherent and Treaty rights, equitable fiscal relations, health and wellness, governance, environment, climate change, economic and social development, safety and security for Indigenous women and girls. ENVIRONMENTAL & REGULATORY REVIEW WATER, HOUSING, INFRASTRUCTURE AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT Location: Ballroom B, Queensbury Convention Centre This session will provide information and facilitate discussion on legislative and policy changes affecting First Nations under the Environmental & Regulatory Review process, National Energy Board (NEB) Modernization, the Fisheries Act (FA), and the Navigation Protection Act (NPA). Location: Arena 4/5, Co-operators Centre, The objective of this session is to engage in discussions to move towards First Nations care and control of housing and infrastructure, namely an ongoing approach of the AFN to move forward on the commitment to improve the delivery of housing, infrastructure and emergency management in First Nations communities. 100 WELLINGTON STREET Location: Ballroom A, Queensbury Convention Centre The session is to provide information and an opportunity to discuss engagement respecting the building and adjoining property at 100 Wellington Street in Ottawa, which has been set aside for Indigenous peoples to determine the most effective use as an Indigenous peoples space. Location: Meeting Room #1, Queensbury Convention Centre The session will discuss strategies to overcome barriers, to the assertion of First Nation jurisdiction over gaming, focusing on the Criminal Code of Canada. Location: Meeting Room #3, Queensbury Convention Centre The purpose of this session is to engage with and inform leadership on the process to develop a National Indigenous Early Learning and Child Care Framework (ELCC). Location: Ballroom B, Queensbury Convention Centre This session presents approaches taken to support First Nations economic development priorities including an overview of experiences with developing a First Nations-led major project and information about a regional economic and fiscal strategic planning project.
