1 Grand National Championships November 10-12, 2016 Lucas Oil Stadium Indianapolis, IN Adjudicator Biographies National Presenting Sponsor MUSIC PANEL (alphabetical by last name) George Boulden, Richmond, KY George R. Boulden holds the rank of Associate Professor of Music and is the Associate Director of Bands at the University of Kentucky, where he serves as the conductor of the Symphony Band. Additionally, he teaches conducting, music technology, and supervises student teachers. In 2011 George was selected as the Kentucky Music Educators Association College/University Teacher of the Year. In February of 2014 George received the Outstanding Bandmaster Award from the Psi Chapter of Phi Beta Mu, international bandmasters fraternity. Active as an adjudicator for Bands of America (BOA), Drum Corps International (DCI), and Drum Corps Japan, George has also served as a clinician and guest conductor throughout the United States, Canada, and Japan. He has presented lectures and clinics at the Midwest International Band & Orchestra Clinic, Music Educators National Conference National Convention, National Band Association National Conventions, College Band Directors National Association National Conventions, and the Music for All Summer Symposium, Drum Corps Japan, and several MENC State Association Conferences. George also serves as editor of the Bluegrass Music News, the official journal of the Kentucky Music Educators Association. George resides in Richmond with his wife, Shelly, daughters, Jenna and Julianna, and sons, Bob and Jonah. David Carbone, Bluffton, SC Mr. David Carbone has over 30 years of experience in the marching and pageantry arts as a performer, educator, designer, and adjudicator. His teaching experience includes a 23-year career as a band director at the high school and collegiate levels in the states of Florida, Ohio, and Texas. He holds a Master s Degree in Music/Wind Band Conducting from the University of South Florida, and a Bachelor s Degree in Music Education from the University of Miami. As a Director of Bands at the high school level, Mr. Carbone s marching bands in Ohio and Texas advanced to Bands of America (BOA) Regional and Super Regional Championship Finals competitions 15 times. While at Bellbrook HS in Ohio, Mr. Carbone led the Marching Eagles to five consecutive BOA Semifinals appearances and two BOA Grand National Class Championships. Mr. Carbone has extensive involvement with Drum Corps International. He was a member of and/or instructor for ten DCI World Championship Finalist Drum Corps, including membership in the renown DCI World Champion Star of Indiana Drum and Bugle Corps. As an adjudicator for DCI, Mr. Carbone has been invited to judge the DCI World Championships multiple times. Outside of his busy judging schedule, Mr. Carbone enjoys serving as a guest conductor, program coordinator, designer, and consultant for band programs across the country. He resides in the Hilton Head Island area of South Carolina where he lives with his wife Carrie and two children Beckett and Jordan. Levi Chavis, McKinney, TX Levi Chavis is currently the Director of Bands at Rick Reedy High School in Frisco, TX, where the Reedy Wind Ensemble recently placed 6th in the TMEA 4A State Honor Band Contest in their inaugural year. He was most recently the Director of Bands at Ronald Reagan High School in San Antonio from 2009 to 2015 where he oversaw the Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, and Jazz Band. Under his direction, the Ronald Reagan High School Wind Ensemble was twice named a state finalist in the TMEA Honor Band Contest and was also selected to perform at the Music for All National Concert Band Festival in Indianapolis. The Ronald Reagan High School Marching Band was a UIL State Marching Band Contest Finalist, a Bands of America (BOA) Regional and Super Regional Finalist every year, a BOA Regional Class Champion in 2010, and a Grand National Championship Finalist in Mr. Chavis has served on the instructional staffs of The Cavaliers and Santa Clara Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps. He is an active adjudicator nationally for Bands of America (BOA), locally in Texas, IPA (Indiana Percussion Association), and NTCA (North Texas Colorguard Association). Levi resides in McKinney, TX with his wife Amanda and their daughter Sophia. Page 1 of 7

2 Chip Crotts, Acworth, GA Dr. Chip Crotts serves as Director of Jazz Studies and Assistant Director of Bands at Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) in Atlanta. A Grammy nominated musician, Crotts has performed and recorded for the Disney Company in Europe and the United States, and maintains an active career as a first call musician for national touring shows and orchestral dates throughout the United States. Chip has toured and worked with numerous international artists over the years, including Boston Brass, The Manhattan Transfer, Ray Charles, Rhythm and Brass, Natalie Cole, The O Jay s, Frankie Valli, The Temptations and Maynard Ferguson, among others. Highly involved in the marching arts, Dr. Crotts has served as a brass instructor with Spirit of Atlanta, Phantom Regiment, Blue Devils, The Cavaliers, and is currently the Brass Caption Manager for the Santa Clara Vanguard. Chip is very active as a clinician and adjudicator and serves in this capacity with organizations such as Bands of America (BOA), Drum Corps International (DCI), Winter Guard International (WGI), and Drum Corps Japan. He received his undergraduate degree from East Carolina University, a Masters of Music in Orchestral Performance from Penn State University, as well as the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Trumpet Performance with a Jazz Emphasis from the University of Texas-Austin. Previously, Crotts served on the faculties of Samford University, Jacksonville State University, and The University of Texas at Austin. A Yamaha Performing Artist and Clinician, Chip resides in Acworth, GA with his wife Kelly and daughter Abigail. Wayne Dillon, Springfield, NJ Mr. Wayne Dillon is currently Director of Bands at Upper Academy High School in Elizabeth, N.J. Mr. Dillon holds a master s degree in jazz performance from The University of Miami, and completed honors fine arts and education degrees from York University in Toronto, Canada. In 2008, Mr. Dillon was awarded the State of New Jersey Governor s teacher recognition award for his work with the music program at Elizabeth High School. He is an active performer and recording artist, an adjudicator for Drum Corps International (DCI), and has judged the national championships for both Bands of America (BOA) and DCI more than 21 years. Mr. Dillon has served as the brass caption head with the Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps, and on the staff of the ten-time world champions Cadets of Bergen County. Nola Jones, Nashville, TN Dr. Nola Jones is the Coordinator of Visual and Performing Arts for Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools in Nashville, Tenn. Her duties include instructional supervision of 400 professional arts education specialists, curriculum planning and implementation. Prior to her appointment in Nashville, Dr. Jones served as Director of Bands and Associate Professor of Music Education at the University of Tennessee at Martin. Before joining the UT Martin faculty, Dr. Jones served as Assistant Director of Bands and Assistant Professor of Music Education at Northern Arizona University. Dr. Jones maintains an active schedule as a guest conductor, adjudicator, and clinician for concert bands, marching bands, and honor ensembles in the United States and internationally in Canada, Japan, the Netherlands and Singapore. Dr. Jones currently serves as Music Judge Liaison for Drum Corps International (DCI). Dr. Jones has judged numerous national championships for Bands of America (BOA), DCI, Drum Corps Japan, Winter Guard International (WGI), and Winter Guard International Percussion. Dr. Jones received the Bachelor of Music Education degree from Mississippi State University, the Master of Music Education degree from Mississippi College, and the Doctorate of Musical Arts in Conducting from the University of South Carolina. Jay Kennedy, Holliston, MA Mr. S. Jay Kennedy s career encompasses varied and successful experiences as a composer, arranger, producer, performer, educator, and administrative leader. He is Vice President for Academic Affairs/Vice Provost at Berklee College of Music in Boston. Kennedy received his Ph.D. from Boston College, and Master of Music and Bachelor of Music Education degrees from Northwestern University. Mr. Kennedy has composed, arranged, and produced music for hundreds of television and radio commercials, for which he has received numerous awards. His music has also been heard in feature films, including Wayne s World, Electric Horseman, Fast Break, and Lethal Weapon 2, and in a variety of television series, including One Tree Hill, Judging Amy, and Felicity. A veteran of the recording industry, Mr. Kennedy has written and produced music for Sheryl Crow, Siedah Garrett, James Ingram, Patti Austin, Little Richard, Stanley Clarke, Brenda Russell, Dave Grusin, and Singers Unlimited. Mr. Kennedy was a Grammy Award finalist in 2002 for arrangements on the recording, Virtuosi, by Gary Burton and Makoto Ozone. His published compositions include works for concert band, percussion ensemble, and marching band. Mr. Kennedy has been an active adjudicator for marching band, drum corps, and indoor percussion Page 2 of 7

3 competitions for over 30 years, has written for several drum and bugle corps. He has also composed the themes for the Drum Corps International (DCI) championship broadcasts and DVDs. He was elected to the DCI Hall of Fame in 2007 for longtime contributions as an adjudicator, judge administrator, arranger, and composer. David McGrath, Woodstock, GA David J. McGrath has directed high school bands the past 29 years in both the states of Michigan and Georgia. He holds a BA from DePauw University and an MA from Eastern Michigan University. He is currently the Director of Bands at Kennesaw Mountain High School, in Cobb County, Ga. McGrath also serves as the Program Coordinator for The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps. Concert Ensembles under his direction have received numerous honors including: invitations and performances for numerous regional and national concert festivals and clinics including the Midwest Clinic, the Music for All (MFA) National Concert Band Festival, and numerous state music association performances in both Michigan and Georgia. The Plymouth-Canton Educational Park Wind Ensemble had the honor of performing an hour-long concert for President Bill Clinton (1996). Marching Bands under his direction have also received many honors which include nine state championship titles Michigan state marching band championships, along with being consistent finalists at BOA competitions. Most recently, the Kennesaw Mountain High School Marching Band was named the 2015 Jacksonville, Alabama Regional Champion, and the 2012 and 2014 BOA Class AAA National Champion (selected as a Grand National Championship Finalist Band both of those years). Mr. McGrath is a six-time recipient of the National Band Association Citation of Excellence, and has been named a Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction. He is very active as a concert band, marching band, and drum-corps adjudicator and clinician, having judged finals at the BOA Grand National Championships, Drum Corps International (DCI) World Championships (having served on the DCI Judge Liaison team during the 2013 season), and Japan Marching Band Championships. He is a member of Phi Beta Mu, the GMEA and the MENC. He and his wife, Kimberley, live in Woodstock, Georgia, with their two sons, Nathaniel and Logan (ages 18 and 16). John Phillips, Cape Coral, FL John Phillips is an active clinician and adjudicator, whose work has taken him around the world. Phillips has provided his unique brand of music education across Japan, Malaysia, Europe, South America, and North America. For the past 16 years he has served as judge administrator for Drum Corps International (DCI) and was inducted into the DCI Hall of Fame Class of Always in demand as an expert on marching music education, Phillips was a member of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) Blue Ribbon Panel on marching music standards, and chaired the DCI Marching Music Academy for 5 years. In 2010, he received the MENC award for Excellence in Marching Music Education. He regularly judges for the World Association of Marching Show Bands (WAMSB), Bands of America (BOA), and numerous pageantry organizations. Phillips recently retired from the University of Western Ontario, where he conducted the Symphonic Band and taught in both the Faculty of Music and Education. He served as the Arts curriculum supervisor at the Ministry of Education for Ontario, and Principal of music teacher training programs at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. Phillips regularly presents clinics and workshops for music educators around the globe in his capacity as Cognitive and Creative Development Senior Advisor for Music Mentors International. Ken Turner, Appalachin, NY Ken Turner has an extensive history in the field of music education and pageantry. During his career as an educator he served as a band director, supervisor of music, clinician, musical arranger, program coordinator, consultant, adjudicator, and guest conductor. His high school concert band, jazz ensembles, and marching bands have won numerous local, state, and national honors. Ken has also served as the Music and Brass Caption Chairman for Drum Corps Associates (DCA), the New York Federation of Contest Judges (NYFCJ), Drum Corps East (DCE), and Drum Corps International (DCI), as well as Judge Administrator for the New York Field Band Conference and as Chief Judge and Judge Administrator for Drum Corps International. He has been a member of the DCI Task Force, the Drum Corps Strategic Planning Committee and the DCI Rules Committee and has served as a clinician and adjudicator at numerous state, national, and international musical events in North America, Europe, and Japan. Ken served as Director of Music for the Johnson City Central School District in Johnson City, New York, which was honored on 6 occasions by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences as a GRAMMY Signature School, and was also recognized as one of the Best Communities in America for Music Education by NAMM. He served for 4 years as a member of the National Advisory Board for the Partners in Education Program at the John F. Kennedy Page 3 of 7

4 Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., and received special recognition from the Kennedy Center for his contribution to the program. Daniel Wood, Seminole, FL Daniel Chip Wood is currently in his second year as Orchestra Director and Music Industry Program Coordinator at East Lake High School in Tarpon Springs, Fla. He is on his 23 rd year of teaching music education. Previously, Mr. Wood was director of bands of the nationally recognized Seminole High School Band Program from 1999 to 2013 and director of bands at East Lake High School from 1994 to While under his 14 years at Seminole, the program performed, competed, and experienced international, national, and regional events from coast to coast. Under his leadership the Seminole program was the first in the state of Florida to receive the prestigious Sudler Shield from the John Philip Sousa Foundation in Under Chip s direction, SHS band saw much success at Bands of America (BOA) Regional and Grand Nationals competitions, National Concert Band Festival, and were winners of State of Florida FMBC contests. Furthermore, through Mr. Wood s tenure the program expanded in every facet including consistent Winter Guard International (WGI) Scholastic World Championships finalist winter guards and superior rated concert ensembles, jazz ensembles, and percussion ensembles. Daniel Wood is a graduate of the University of Florida and studied conducting and percussion studies. Chip has served as an instructional staff member for the Suncoast Sound, Magic of Orlando, and Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps. In addition, he has been a Pinellas County Schools Teacher of the Year finalist and music educator of the year recipient. He stays active as a clinician, consultant and guest conductor throughout the Southeastern United States. In addition, he has served as an adjudicator for BOA All, the Florida Bandmasters Association, Florida Marching Band Coalition, Florida Federation of Color Guards, South Carolina Band Directors Association, and the Colorado Bandmasters Association. He currently is the FMBC judging coordinator for the state of Florida. Chip resides in Seminole, Fla. with his lovely wife Kay and their 11-year-old son Connor. Todd R. Zimbelman, Salem, OR Todd R. Zimbelman is the Director of Bands and Co-Director of the Symphony Orchestra at West Salem High School in the Salem-Keizer School District in Oregon. Mr. Zimbelman has held Director of Bands and Associate Director of Bands positions at the high school and college levels in Oregon and Texas. Mr. Zimbelman has been recognized as one of the Top 50 Directors That Make A Difference, the Claes Nobel s Educator of Distinction, and the Oregon Symphony s Music Educator of the Year in Under his direction, marching bands have received several championships and they are the reigning NWAPA Champions and Bands of America (BOA) Tacoma Regional Champions. Wind ensembles consistently receive superior ratings, and most recently have placed first at the 6A OSAA State Band Championship the past eight years in a row (2009-Southridge, West Salem). His ensembles have attended national and international festivals and have performed at the Oregon Music Educators State Conference and the NAfME All-NW Conference. Students under his direction are regularly selected for All-City, All- State, and All-Northwest honor bands as well as the OSAA State Solo Contest He has adjudicated for several organizations including BOA and Drum Corps International (DCI). He is currently a member of The American Band Masters Association, College Band Directors National Association, National Association for Music Educators, National Band Association, Oregon Band Directors Association, Oregon Music Educator s Association (president), and Phi Beta Mu. VISUAL PANEL (alphabetical by last name) Lee Carlson, Palm Springs, CA Mr. Lee Carlson has been involved in the pageantry arts for over 40 years. He has spent the last 33 years as the drill designer and color guard instructor for the University of Southern California Trojan Marching Band. Mr. Carlson judges for Bands of America (BOA), Drum Corps International (DCI), and many Winter Guard Circuits across the United States. Mr. Carlson served four years as Visual Caption Head for DCI and currently serves as Judges Training Coordinator. Mr. Carlson has judged in Europe and Asia, and has adjudicated the Drum Corps Japan Championships seven times. He has written for and taught many mass bands including the opening of the Los Angles Olympics, Centennial of the Statue of Liberty, the Bicentennial of the French Revolution, and the Centennial of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Mr. Carlson owns and operates a pottery studio in Palm Springs, Calif. Page 4 of 7

5 Ken Giese, Henderson, NV Ken Giese is a nationally recognized visual caption designer and adjudicator. He is an active visual caption judge for Bands of America (BOA), Drum Corps International (DCI), the Percussion Division of Winter Guard International (WGI), the Winter Guard Association of Southern California, the Florida Federation of Color Guards Circuit, and many other local circuits and organizations throughout the United States and abroad. He has served as a visual designer and instructor for numerous high school bands, winter guards, drum and bugle corps, and marching percussion units. Mr. Giese currently resides in Henderson, Nev., where he is a high school mathematics teacher. John Howell, North Huntingdon, PA He is currently employed as a Business Education Teacher in the Hempfield Area School District where he teaches Sports and Entertainment Marketing, Web Page Design, and Video Game Programming. John holds a Bachelor of Administration in Business Management and an Accounting minor from the University of Pittsburgh and a Bachelor of Science in Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He is a visual designer and has taught and written shows for various nationally acclaimed marching bands, drum and bugle corps and indoor winter color guards and continues to conduct clinics and consultations for bands, winter color guards, and judging associations across the United States. He has been a visual adjudicator over 25 years and judges for Bands of America (BOA), Drum Corps International, Winter Guard International, and various other judging associations and has had the opportunity to judge internationally on numerous occasions. John currently is the PFCJ Judges Coordinator and Education Director. He also conducts both the Trinity Handbell and Hand Chime choirs at his church in which he has performed for over 36 years. Kyle Miller, Las Vegas, NV Mr. Kyle Miller is a consultant, designer, adjudicator and clinician in the pageantry arts both domestically and internationally. He studied music at the University of Iowa and performed as a member of Star of Indiana Drum and Bugle Corps. Mr. Miller has adjudicated competitive events in the US, Japan, Thailand, and Europe with WGI, DCI and Bands of America. Starting in 2014, he began serving the Midwest Color Guard Circuit and Texas Color Guard Circuit as a member of their adjudication administrative teams. Mr. Miller has also served as a liaison to UNLV Education Cadre and Community Partnership program, participated in the Southern Nevada's Writing Project and earned a writing fellowship with the National Writing Project. Moreover, he has maintained involvement with education programs promoting student involvement in the arts, including Nevada Ballet and USA 7's international rugby team. Mr. Miller looks forward to finding and improving ways of blending education curriculum with performing arts opportunities. Mr. Miller currently teaches English language arts and creative writing in Las Vegas. Adam Sage, Delray Beach, FL Adam Sage is an active choreographer, designer, and adjudicator in the pageantry arts. Adam has worked with numerous programs in the southeast including Tarpon Springs High School, East Lake High School, Seminole High School, Clearwater High School, Kell High School, and Pope High School in Marietta, Ga. Adam also designed for Spanish River High School Winter Guard in Boca Raton, Fla. Adam's drum corps experience includes being a performing member of the Suncoast Sound, and The Cadets of Bergen County. He also worked and designed with various drum corps including: Magic of Orlando, Crossmen, the Cavaliers, Santa Clara Vanguard, Phantom Regiment, Carolina Crown, the Madison Scouts, the Boston Crusaders, Yokohama Scouts Drum and Bugle Corp, the Brazilian Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps, Spirit of Atlanta Drum, Bugle Corps, and the Oregon Crusaders. Adam is also actively involved with Winter Guard International (WGI). He was the director of The Company Colour Guard, Phantom Regiment Winter Guard, the CrownGUARD, and The Pride of the Netherlands Winter Guard. Sage was also a member of the Emerald Marquis Winter Guard from 1990 to Most recently, Adam Sage was the director and designer for the Kennesaw Mountain High School Color Guard in Kennesaw, Ga present., works as a designer for East Coweta and Keller Central High School Winter Guards. He also is one of the directors at Park Vista High School in Lake Worth, Fla. where he is a designer and choreographer. Adam is also an adjudicator for WGI. When he is not teaching color guard, Adam is a third grade teacher in South Florida where he resides. Robert Solomon, Van Nuys, CA Mr. Robert Solomon has been involved in the marching arts since He performed as a member of the color guard for the Velvet Knights Drum & Bugle Corps, and at California State University in Northridge. 6 to instructing and has designed for several top programs in Southern California, where he continues to do that today. Mr. Solomon has been judging since 1996 and is an adjudicator for Winter Guard International (WGI), Drum Corps International (DCI), Bands of America (BOA), and various state and local associations. He played trumpet and was drum major at El Camino Real HS in Woodland Hills, Calif. Robert is a banker and lives in Los Angeles with his golden retriever, George. Michael Stone, Los Angeles, CA Michael Stone resides in Los Angeles, California and has been adjudicating various pageantry competitions since He attributes his interest in pageantry to his high school music and marching band program. Mr. Stone has studied, performed and taught in several music programs in California. Mr. Stone is recognized at the highest level of adjudicators for Drum Corps International (DCI) and Winter Guard International (WGI). As a nationally recognized adjudicator, Mr. Stone is proud to be affiliated with the following organizations: Drum Corps International (DCI), Winter Guard International (WGI), Music For All - Bands of America (BOA), Winter Guard Association of Southern California (WGASC/MBOS), and Florida Federation of Colorguards Circuit (FFCC) Jim Sturgeon, Louisville, KY Mr. Jim Sturgeon has been involved in the pageantry arts for over 25 years. He serves as an adjudicator for Drum Corps International (DCI), Bands of America (BOA), Winter Guard International (WGI), Gulf Coast Judges Association, and various marching band and color guard circuits. Mr. Sturgeon was a member of the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps and Pride of Cincinnati Winter Guard. He has served as a designer and clinician for the Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps as well as for several high school band and color guard programs throughout the country. Mr. Sturgeon possesses a B.S. in Business Administration and an MBA from the University of Louisville. Jim is a Senior Director of Human Resources Operations for Kindred Healthcare. Michael Turner, San Francisco, CA Mr. Michael Turner began his career in the pageantry arts as a member of the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps. Trained in ballet, jazz and modern dance, Michael was one of the early color guard pioneers to introduce dance and movement to the marching arena. While in Madison, Mr. Turner performed with Kanopy Dance Theatre, PresenTense, Children s Theatre of Madison, Madison Opera, and Ballet Madison. With such a diversified background, Michael developed an artistically strong and original teaching style. For 18 years, Michael worked with the two-time World Champion Madison Scouts, serving as Color Guard Choreographer and Visual Coordinator. In the San Francisco Bay Area, Mr. Turner served as Dance Master and Choreographer for the six-time World Champion Santa Clara Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps. Mr. Turner has judged for Winter Guard International (WGI), Bands of America (BOA), and Drum Corps International (DCI), and continues freelance judging for marching bands, drum corps, and color guard throughout the world. Mr. Turner conducts color guard training sessions and master dance classes throughout the United States, Canada, Middle East, Europe, Japan, and Thailand. Mr. Turner is still an active performer, coach, and choreographer with Mindance San Francisco and artists of the San Francisco Ballet. Previously, Mr. Turner has been in operations management of multiple professional performing groups and touring Broadway shows. CHIEF JUDGE Gary Markham, Dallas, GA Mr. Markham is recently Retired Supervisor of Instrumental Music for the Cobb County School District in Marietta, Ga. He is the former Director of Bands at Robinson Secondary School in Fairfax County, Va. He has over four decades of experience in music education, with 25 years as a high school band director and 20 years as a music supervisor. He currently serves internationally as clinician, guest conductor, adjudicator, and consultant. The Cobb County Music program has been named one of the BEST Communities for Music Education in America, 12 times. Mr. Markham received his B. S. degree from Mansfield State University, M. Ed. degree from Penn State University, and studied for Ph. D. (ABD) in conducting and music supervision at George Mason University with Tony Maiello and Arnald Gabriel. His leadership experience includes membership on several state and national music education executive boards including the MidWest Clinic Advisory Committee. He is currently the Senior Education Consultant and Chief Judge for Bands of America (BOA), Executive Director of the Music Administration Collaborative, and Judge Education Director for Drum Corps International (DCI). 7 Foundation's "Sudler Order of Merit" and the Robinson Symphonic Band is the 1992 recipient of the "Sudler Flag of Honor. In 2006, Mr. Markham was presented with the Georgia Music Educators Administrative Leadership award and was inducted into the BOA Hall of Fame. In 2007, Mr. Markham received the DCI & Coltrin & Associates Excellence in Music Education Award. In 2009, NAfME presented the first Excellence in Marching Music Education to Mr. Markham for serving as chairman of the Blue Ribbon Commission for writing National Standards and a lifetime devoted to marching music excellence.
