1 MONROE CHAMBER WEEKLY REPORT Volume 17, Issue 33 Monroe Chamber of Commerce Weekly Report Last week, the Monroe Chamber hosted a ribbon cutting for Ouachita Christian School. The school just completed a technology lab and a complete technology upgrade for the school. TOGETHER WE RE STRONGER TOP 20 UNDER 40 TO RECOGNIZE YOUNG PROFESSIONALS On Tuesday, September 12 the Monroe Chamber of Commerce, the News-Star and the Northeast Louisiana Young Professionals will recognize the Top 20 Young Professionals Under 40 for Northeast Louisiana. The event will be held at the Monroe Civic Center in Monroe. The top 20 individuals were selected from a highly talented group of seventy-five nominees. These individuals are advancing in their careers, active in the community and dedicated to making Northeast Louisiana a better place to live and work. Tuesday, August 15 at 11:00 a.m.-the Monroe Airport will host a ribbon cutting for the Spirit of 45, a new airport exhibit. The event will take place at the Monroe Airport. Wednesday, August 16 at 12:00 noon-dr. Brent Vidrine, Superintendent of the Monroe City School System will speak to chamber members. The event will be held at the Monroe Civic Center. Cost to attend is $25. Please call to RSVP. Wednesday, August 16 at 1:30 p.m.- University House Ribbon cutting for the newly remodeled University House. The facility is located between Strauss Hall and DeSiard Street, next to the Baptist College Ministry House. Monday, August 21 at 5:30 p.m.-the Ouachita Parish Police Jury will meet at the Ouachita Parish Courthouse. Tuesday, August 22 at 2:00 p.m.-affinity Health Clinic will host a ribbon cutting at their new center located at 920 Oliver Road. Tuesday, August 22 at 6:00 p.m.-monroe City Council will meet at Monroe City Hall Council Chambers. Wednesday, August 30 at 12 noon-secretary of State Tom Schedler will speak at a luncheon at the Monroe Civic Center. Cost is $25 per person. To purchase tickets or for more information, please call Daphne McClish at Last week, Governor Edwards and Monty Sullivan, President of the Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS), announced the construction of a new Workforce Training Center in Tallulah and substantial expansion of the Advanced Technology Center in Monroe for the Louisiana Delta Community College. The cost for both projects is $10 million. This represents a public-private partnership to expand workforce development efforts in the region. Last week, the Monroe Chamber hosted a ribbon cutting for WAITR, a restaurant delivery service. The service works like Uber. You download an app to your phone. It opens to the restaurants in your delivery area. You place your order and pay and your order is on the way to your home. The service costs $5.00 regardless of the number of meals placed.
